Help Needed for Xantia

Post by canntan »

Hi guys,
I would appreaciate if you guys able to solve my xantia 1.9TD problem.
Front both suspension very stiff and very often hydraulic oil burst out from HP Pump through the metal tube connected to accumulator or the o-ring sip or force out through the hexa nut size 17.

The rear suspension work perfectly nice.

Thank you

Most likely that will be the front suspension spheres and the accumulator sphere have failed.
You will need to replace all 3.
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec :(
My past Citroens :-
'00 Xantia SX HDI, now dead due to accident :(
'99 Xantia HDI 110 Exclusive, RIP :(
'97 Xantia TD SX
'96 Xantia TD LX
'96 ZX TD
'89 BX TD
'88 AX GT
'79 CX2400 Pallas (scrapped :( )
& a couple of Peugeots !

thank you for your advice and yes i did changed both front sphere and it did soft but now the steering unstable sometimes it is light turn and sometimes it is heavy feel like the HP pump unstable pressure.

My mechanic told me it might be the HP pump problem.

Any idea what is wrong?

I will fix up the accumulator sphere ( regasses )soon

Replace the o-ring under the 17mm hex nut, and the 17mm hex blank, they don't cost much from a citroen dealer.
You can also replace the bell end o-ring on the pump.

Also check the pipe from the LHM resevoir to the pump for cracks and the tightness of the clips (replace the clips if needs be).

If air gets in, then steering can get very heavy, it tends to be heavy when you start to turn, then will suddenly go lighter.

the other thing to check is the tank filters are clean, also is the drive belt tight enough as they need to be very tight

How many times!!

On a Xantia - its a ridge belt setup which does NOT need to be as tight as a V belt setup Ah la BX!

The stiff steering I BET YOU will be the UJ joint siezing up! Its accessable through the (Sitting IN the car) right hand Wheel arch (UK CARS, LEFT HAND European Cars... It needs a good spray with a good release agent.)

Ive NEVER experianced a Xantia with a steering problem through a slack belt.. even less so with a 6+2 Pump setup...

Ok folks please highlight me regard hydraulic flow back to reservoir tank.
i've noticed the orange indicator not really show the content of the fluid even thought i adjust the high-low-high,
i've check the indicator itself and it's not jammed so i suspect something is wrong somewhere.
Is it the the accumulator return valve stuck?
Or the sphere might be the cause due to low pressure?
Thank you folks for all the info provided.

Is there sufficient LHM in the tank to lift the indicator float?

If some of your spheres have gone flat (lost pressure) then the LHM will be in the spheres, not in the tank.

A very bouncy ride would usually indicate bad spheres.

A rapid tick rate indicates a bad accumulator sphere.

you can only check the tank/float level with the car on level graound and fully up on its highest setting, now he yellow disc not the copper one should be between the two red bands,

if it is above both the bands there is more LHM in the tank than required,

the only thing this will/can cause is LHM seeping out from under the tank top seal which can make a mess, but will not affect the suspension at all,

Hi Folks,

My car back on the road after i had replace all new full set of hydraulic hose, used accumulater block with re-gas sphere and both front strut sphere.

Still notice not as soft ride as before and when i press trottle the steering wheel tend to pull lightly to right side, oh yes i had replace the whole steering rack like 6 months ago.

Would it be the steering rack cause the front suspension stiff or too firm?
As i experinced before when my HP pump burst LHM oil fist it will heavy my steering then to front strut.

As for the rear suspension it work fine...

Appreciate all your opinion as my mechanic ask me to replace a new HP pump!!?

Oh yes even the HP pump i had it replace with used from 2.0i petrol HP, what i did just using my diesel HP pump pulley and it's rear casing.

Thank you

One more thing when i turn my steering to right side i could heard hissing sound,

what would cause it mates?

The surface of reservoir tank lot of LHM oil i had to place a cloth to absorb LHM oil.

Thank you
