Floppy Filler Flap

Post by RichG »

Not a tongue twister or a medical complaint!

I filled my Xantia up with cooking oil this afternoon and noticed that the fuel filler flap had no 'spring' to it. On further investigation it appears that the upper black plastic 'spring' lever has broken. I have been on service.citroen and they want about £64 for the complete unit (flap, pivot and support) as the black plastic support, that attaches with 3 screws to the wing and the flap hinges on, is not available on it's own.

I do not know whether the Hatchback and Estate versions are the same, mine is a Mark 1 Estate 1998, but does anybody have one spare from a scrapped car that I could purchase? Failing that is there any way to fix the one that I have as I am worried that it may flap about in the wind when traveling at speed.

Hi Richard

Mine did the same some time ago. I just araldited a magnet to the insisde of the plastic flap so that it stuck to the body and held it closed.

Cheers

Duncan,

That is a very good idea. I have some magnets lying around.
If nobody has a good used item I will try that.

Thanks

Try a Neodymium magnet if you have one handy.
Pull a hard drive to bits as there are a couple in each one.*

I've never seen a Xantia with a spring loaded flap - and I've bought a few.
Most are petrol which I guess is why the flap is one of the most uased items
on the car according to the DERV fanatics...

Estate flap is different to a saloon BTW.

He's not wrong 'cos I just bought a hinge for mine, same part for estate and hatch.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Thanks for all the replies.

I will have a look at the magnet fix before I think about paying a visit to my main stealer's (thanks for the part number DickieG).

Dont worry about it flapping around when i'm doing 95 mph the wind hustling along the body keeps it shut tight  .

Locking the car holds it shut nicely.
