Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I Have just been outside to top up my gearbox oil as my gear changes are getting worse and took more oil out than i put in, the oil that came out was not exactly golden! I did it as per haynes manual, perhaps the clutch is knackered?

It was whilst doing this i found an LHM leak :( I had previously identified a pipe that worried me as being rather...

Don't be tempted to overfill a gearbox, the pressure builds up and blows the oil seals where the driveshafts go in and you'll lose it all.

Dark discoloured gearbox oil and smelling like it's been burnt, esp. if after being underfilled is syptomatic of a failing diff.

Any one now of common leaks on these , My under belly pan is covered in derv and obviously leaking from some where , Not a noticeable loss in MPG .

Any ideas as to where its coming from , Had the belly tray off and bottom of sump has diesel on it .SO has most of bottom 1/2 of engine has some (front ) couldnt check the rest .

I dont want to run...

yes no leak from tap , Fuel housing is bone dry on the outside . Few years ago had a injector leak derv, just nipped it up and cured that.

After reading Haynes book of lies Ive got a funning feeling it could be hose to HP pump .. But its beyond me to check .

Hello,

I am on holiday in France. As I was coming up to the first ever cambelt interval I took my Citroen C5 2 litre petrol estate in to the Citroen dealer garage near where I am staying here in France.

They serviced it, changed the cambelt, I paid 650 Euros, then got into my car and drove 250 Km to see my son in another french town.

Yes well somebody let me use their 20 year old BX... so I was able to drive over and see the garagiste. He insisted that it was impossible that he put too much oil in the engine. I stopped him there. I love being called a liar.
I exchanged insurance details with the boss, perhaps his insurance will do something...

My 2007 C5 has started hunting when on a light throttle or under load (say going up-hill) - this problem seems to come and go - the dealer says he has never heard of the problem but I have a vague recollection of seeing a topic that suggested it might be a dirty air-flow meter. Unfortunatly, despite spending 2 hours trawling through the forum...

I've finally discovered where I'm losing LHM at the front of my V6 Xantia. :x

A very small slow drip of fluid on the ground which could almost be ignored
as the level rarely needed topping up has predictably got sufficiently
irritating, embarrassing and of course expensive as it has worsened that
an enforced layup was called for a short while...

Just as a follow up to this, the hose that I used to replace the perished one is still fine and showing no signs of suffering from LHM attack. The rating code on it is SAE R6/EN854, so you should be safe using hose of this type.

Due to not having a 3 point belt in the middle back seat and because we just want more space our Xantia will be leaving us soon :( . I do feel quite sad as we have had her for 7yrs and she has been over to Norway twice.

Not all bad news though, we are going to get a Picasso so that we have 3 proper seats in the rear and more space to fill with...

Driving back from cornwall yesterday the fuel injector/ignition warning light came on...manual says that if driven for a prolonged time could damage the cat convertor...had to drive back about another 300 mile..

anyway...when idle/low revs very spluttery defo a prob with the fuel getting through, any thoughts before i take it to the...

another minor prob...very occasionally the fan remains on when I turn off the ignition...i have to go back 10mins+ switch on ignition and this usually disengages the fan?

Sadly I left the Ign on and discharged the Battery.
For some reason this caused Both the 'Spedo' and the Rev counter to put their needles at 6 o'clock.
The spedo has zeroed OK but the rev Counter is still there
Is there a fix? short of removing the instrument Panel and flicking it back .
I recall Xac mentioning both these are stepper motor...

No need to drill a hole, you can do it through the gap around the trip meter reset pin with a suitably thin piece of wire.

I used a strand of copper telephone wire, it is easier than it sounds.

Yes I done it the same way, and it's not too difficult to do.

Hi all im new to this forum and was wondfering if anybody could help me.

I have a recently looked at a Xsara estate 1.6L that has developed a wobble.
The wobble seems minor in 2nd between 10-20mph then disappears but reappears around 50mph in a rather scary side to side style shake, which then disappears after 60mph. It does feel to be generated...

CITROEN 2.1TD XM spares injection pump Diesel 1992 Item number: 260470153070

£25.00 at the moment, ends very soon. It has been used on vegie and the front seal is leaking but my local friendly diesel man tells me it can be replaced without dismantling the pump.

I allready have two or I would get it. They are becoming very rare now.

I forgot to fill the tank with diesel before Darling Alistair's extra 2p, and then prices jumped by further 1 or 2p during last week, so by the weekend I was looking at 40L-ish to fill-up at 107 or 108/L - around £65.

Then in our local Sainsbury's on Saturday I saw 3L rapeseed oil at £2.55 (85p/L). That's a serious saving to offset the minor...

. Iam new to the site but wondered if any one can help. at the dealers most pipes with ajoining pipes come as one.

there was one that was 130quid in that area, its one that goes from the accumulator area to the back of the car as well as under the battery tray.

there is a return pipe of the accumulator that is 36 quid from the dealer

a return hose shouldn't be causing you problems on stiffness in...

This is the standard re-set procedure:

Citroen usually use Clarion in the Xantia. My CD changer is marked Clarion but the radios aren't.

If it's any help, here are the instructions for the 3035 and 4035 units from my handbook.(1999 model)

Finish inputing the wrong code.

Press the BND button until the display shows CODE IN

inpute the correct...

Ive had a few of these clarions lock out indefenatly! EVEN leaving on for 3 hours, when I press the BND its locked, a set of 4 lines appear under the middle ones...

I simply then, removed the code chip and replaced it with a code chip I know the code from, out of a broken unit.. problem solved

The final chapter in my dreaded HDi head ache ive had in... my customer decided that a replacment engine was the way to go, after an unsuccesfull head gasket job (ONLY due to wrong thickness of gasket supplied) so another spare engine sits here (HDi 110)

Anyway - I took the plunge and I bought the HDi 90 engine from Neauneatonrob,...

been meaning to get a spare for a while, only having one set it is looking very worn.

would it be best to go to the dealers, i can imagine them charging a couple hundred for the priveledge.

where as i am also guessing a blank could be cut by a local keycutter and the imobiliser coded with lexia or some other method?

For a Xantia key, can't you just swap the blade and avoid reprogramming
No you can't do that, on a Xantia 2 remote key the transponder chip is in the the keyblade part. The remote only has the central locking/alarm control in it.

Hello there i'm new to this forum nad could do with some help.

I have just done a complete clutch change on a citroen xantia.

I've also changed the clutch cable and the plastic clip but can't remember the sequence for the how the spring goes onto the pedal.

The one way i set it up the pedal was that high that it fouled on the steering column....

once it is all together to the point of offering up the pedel, i always leave the hooked end of the spring at one side or under the pedel that alows the other end to just sit in the right place,

then get the bolt in (on RHD cars fit the bolt same direction as Jims diagram) with the nut on,

now just push the hooked end of the spring with a screw...

As my contract may end today (or the 18th if I'm lucky), I'm going to have more time on my hands, and Juliet really needs her heater matrix done. Cassy does as well, but it's nowhere near as bad as the mist producing one in Juliet!

My Xantia has developed a strange fault, when I press the brake pedal and the barke lights come on, the side lights come on too, even the side light warning lamp on the dash does too! :shock:

Hello everybody, my last posting was on andys spares forum!!!!. Just found this site today. Anyway My T Reg Xantia 1.9 TD is causing me a hiccup, it's fine starting from cold but on three occassions lately if i try to start it from a break of only a couple of minutes it's a blighter, turning over but nothing happening, battery seems to die real...

I suspect that the reluctance to hot start is a combination of:

battery problem (low electrolyte level?) or just knackered,

a poor connection somewhere (battery posts?) getting hot = even worse contact,

slightly loose drive belt means the alternator takes its time to recharge the battery.

impatience in not waiting for the glow-plug light to go...

Hi all,

Does anyone have any recommendations on make/type etc for new glow plugs. Prices on eBay range from £7ea for Bosch Chromium to £14 for a set of 4 (AC Delco I think).

Don't want to fit crappy ones just to save a few quid but also don't fancy getting mugged :(

They're to fit a Xantia 1.9TD.

uncle buck - cool. It's early days yet and I've yet to put some real miles into the NGK's so I'm staying neutral at the moment.

Maybe it's because I'm ambidextrous but I didn't find those two infamous plugs a problem to remove. It might also have something to do with the
fact I removed a bracket and something else for easier access.

Strange situation:

No ABS warning light, but ABS operation is being applied at all times. When braking above 10 to 15 mph, brakes shudder. At 30 mph extreme shudder.

Remove ABS fuse, ABS light is on, but absolutely normal smooth braking. (Except, of course, ABS would not be operating!)

Xantia HDi Estate 110Bhp

AFAIK the ABS carries out two self-tests. One on power up (ignition on) testing it's own computer and the other once the car reaches a certain speed (15mph I think) which I can only assume is to test there is a signal being produced by each sensor.

It's certainly true of the Saxo as a friend replaced a sensor and complained the light was still on...

hi guys :) today i went to look at a 1999 green xantia turbo diesel only thing worrying me was the clutch has been done recently but still feels hard and doesnt have much travel before it bites,How can i rectify this? also the engine is registered as 2litre but as turbo diesel and not hdi :roll: .i have never heard of this and thought that maybe...

The turbo-d is 1905 cc and is therefore taxed here as a 2.0L (so you're paying for the 95cc you don't have !) You'll be doing your bit for the economy though !.

Hi All

I need to strip down the front brakes/calipers on my VSX as im 99% sure they are binding on.
Under normal cicumstances i would be replacing both disks and pads along with the handbrake cables as i need to eliminate as much as possible but it looks like im only going to have the cash replace the HB cables :evil: :evil:

Hi all i am new to the site and a new citroen c5 owner.
I have a problem that someone i hope will be able to help me with.
I need to drain and refill the suspension fluid system as the last person used the wrong fluid.
I know it has to be LDS fluid but do not how to do the job i.e. draining the system refilling the system where the bleed nipples...

Unfortunately this is not the simple affair that it is with a Xantia or previous model Citroen.

There are a system of valves that can only be operated with a Lexia and the system has to be pressurised using a Lexia too.

Hi,

under the front end of my 1998 Mk2 xantia on the near side there is a length of rubber pipe about 18 long which has a smaller metal pipe heading of to the front accumulator at the accumulator end and in the nearside corner it has another metal pipe which seems to disapear up beneath the battery tray.

the rubber pipe is leaking hydraulic...

Hi there
I am currently driving a 2.0 hdi 110 Xsara. The car is running fine however yesterday I noticed that the oil light comes on when the handbrake is applied. No other indications and as I said the car runs fine....oh, the oil level is ok.
Has anyone had this before or point me in a logical direction??

I've been looking into why my V6 has a 15 second regulator tick rate in soft mode but when forced into hard mode, the tick rate goes up to 2 or more minutes.

Just changed the autobox oil, managed to squeeze 5 litres out. The question is, would it be a good idea to now reboot the ECU into it's pre natal state and make it relearn everything from scratch? I know some of you chaps have done this, so does it make any difference and if so any volunteers with a Lexia and the know how? :D

Mmm interesting, I wonder how that works when the car is brand spankers, and whether the first owner can affect how the ECU learns its parameters and as such affect the performance of the gearbox for the rest of the cars life, or at least until a reboot.

I don't think the transmission ever stops adapting, but the adaption is quicker for the...

I have now got my VSX on the road but not sure for how long :( :(

Not having driving her on the road except for MOT test i now have discovered 1 major problem and 1 frustrating one

Some progress has now been made i think :) :)

Have managed to replace the rear centre sphere and now i have some movement in the rear suspension when in soft mode :D :D :D

Not had chance to test drive it yet but it does seem to be better :)

Next up will be the front brakes overhaul (up on axle stands at the moment with both front wheels off)...

last feburary I got an advisory not on my steering colum having play in the top.

Has anyone replaced steering column bushes on an xantia?

I have had the coloum out but I cannot remember if it had an nylon bushes in it like the old BX used to have, in fact the bx bottom bush slipped down the colum and I pushed it back up and used insulation tape...

Clutch was changed, no problem for 100 miles. Engine management light came on- fault reader said egr- egr cleaned to no avail. New egr fitted still no good. On test drive today engine management light on when engine on overrun, goes out when under load. Could it be that crankshaft speed sensor (on transmission) was damaged when clutch was done?...

Hi, i have an 04 diesel c5 vtr, the blower has just gone wonky and now only works on max speed, if i turn it down below max it just turns off,

hi my xsara 2 litre hdi has stalled on me once or twice i have pulled over turned key and has started again straight away no problem!

latley i came out the other day and it would not start!! i bleed it through and it started!!

then next day it start fine drove it half a mile stopped and would not start again!! had to bleed it through again and...

Guys,
I don't think this is the lift pump.Swarf gets into the fuel filter because the HP pump breaks up the swarf is returned via the injector return back to the filter otherwise it would of been stopped at the fuel filter.

Hi guys,

I am collecting the Xsara from the insurance tomorrow. I don't want to drive it as I have already surrendered the tax.

The screw in towing eye that lives in the boot I can't remember if there is a towing 'receptacle' in the front bumper somewhere that it screws into??

I have never needed to use it!! Only time it broke down it went on...

on the mk 2 the towing eye thread is behind a little square cap on the bumper under the n/s headlight. may well be the same for the mk1.
As far as the towing goes i dont belive towing on a rope is illegal just not ideal.
When towing on a solid bar legally the car being towed becomes a steered trailer so all trailer rules apply, must have legal...

5th Gear have road tested the new Merc S class - and I picked up on an AMAZING new feature fitted to the car as an OPTION!!

Body roll control system! :shock:

GASP! I hear - anyone want to guess what it is and how it works??? YUP, close, but not quite...

Interesting to read this as my c5 hatch if getting worse re a similar problem. Gets up to 70 or more but when hitting a longish hill it drops. Got up to 90 yesterday on the dual carriageway (to try and make it without being embarrased) and by the ned of a 500 meter incline it was down to 50 by the top with the novas and ka going past. Sometimes...

Hi All...

Ive finally got my V6 Xantia here! :lol:

Im VERY pleased - and even more surprised at the amazing fuel economy from a 194bhp engine!!

Anyway, more of later... my first question is: The CD changer unit, original Blaupunkt one, 10 disk changer, does not work. It has the Clarion type 13 pin din plug at the changer end, but Im guessing...

Does anyone know if an interior light can be fitted into the back of a 5 door citroen xsara? I've seen them on 3 door versions but I have a 5 door version and don't want to make a hole in the ceiling without knowing if the hole is on the chassis for the rear interior light.

A little guidance please, as my BoL says nothing about how to fit the piston back into the caliper. Had removed caliper to check all OK, as o/s brakes binding a bit, and definitely more so than on n/s. Found a little dirty LHM in caliper, and a bit of play in the sliding mechanism, but nothing obviously wrong. No rust in caliper bore, or on...

As I'm dismantling the LX I want to remove the calipers.
Now am I right in thinking that the doser valve should prevent copious amounts of green blood spraying from the unblocked ends?

Otherwise I'll need 4 lengths of pipe to return any spillage to the resevoir.
