Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I drive a 2002 Citroen C5 (2 Litre petrol) which I bought new. I was very satisfied with the car until the following problem started.
When I start the car for the first time (mornings) it starts perfectly and idles perfectly. After ± 45 seconds the car started to idle unevenly (car starts shaking due to this uneven idling) might be the save mode...

Hi,

The 2nd hand Grand Scenic we bought is missing quite a few of the torx screws, you know the generic type found in most cars to hold plastic bits in place, inch long or less, wide-spaced deep threads? Same type used to hold carpet in place directly under the fan motor in Xantias...

Wouldn't normally be bothered, but trim and holding plates...

Alright fellas, well I had the aircon regased on the HDI today and the guy told me that although the the aircon system is not leaking and is full the pump in not cutting in!
IT was cutting in just a few months ago, but now it aint! Could this be something simple like a fuse somewhere or a relay? I know for sure the pump worked fine untill it ran...

Does anyone have a definitive guide on resetting the ECU on C5 2.2 particulate filters? I ask as I've had several attempts at doing this without success and still have one case ongoing ATM with a forum member.

Just to chip in with a slightly different view/experience of the SAT NAV.

I think it's really good. I have 2010/11 maps and find it accurate and extremely useful.

The MAP function itself is brilliant. When you're in unfamiliar teritory you can zoom in and out to find alternative routes.

I also have a NAVMAN S80 which has a 3.5 inch screen but...

OMG ITS WORKING! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

But at what cost!

As a stab in the dark I thought I would leave the Xant ticking over outside and let it heat up in order to make sure the fan was working, see if that would have any effect on owt. After about 20 mins I looked out and was horrified to see coolant running out and after a closser look...

Stupid question (maybe)

The O/S/R strut assembley on my C5, 2002, 2.2HDi, Estate is weeping, well the rubber boot is moist. Is there a seal that could have gone, or is it time for a new unit?
I have worked in the Mechanics trade for 14 years, and have only had the 'luck' to work on a few older citroens, so have no knowledge of this new fancy...

I'll let you know, I have a massive chain wrench, which did the old BX's and Xantia's no proble, but won't fit the C5 spheres, so have had it lengthend. I don't suppose you know how to fully depressurise the system?

The dipped lights on my 2001 model Xsara are very poor and the do not seem to give much luminousity which I find to be a danger when meeting oncoming traffic on country roads which I normally use.

Due to an MOT pass today even though the french tart threw on the airbag light out of the blue on the drive to the test centre :roll: luckily not a concern for an MOT. Might need to cadge a Lexia session soon :wink:

As you know from my other thread am having AC probs, but stumbled over a few google articles that sudgest rebooting the AC, i know this an be done on some other types of system so is it somthing that can be done on a Xantia? Or is AC reboot on a xantia a load of bollox?

Winner!

Miles from home and the clutch cable disengaged on ecto 1. I did the old Try and Punch The Stereo trick from 2nd to 3rd as it popped out. Had to join RAC to get home.

Discovered the cable hadn't snapped, just worn at the edges a little and that was enough for it to pop out...

Fitted a new clutch cable, drove to work, quick graunch in...

Had a similar thing happen to Cassy, except it was that the nut on the clutch end of the cable unwound.
Lived with it for a while skipping 3rd as usual on the way up and double d clutching on the way down.
Eventually Jim and I swapped the gearbox and replaced the clutch.
I'd stick with him if otherwise he's a sound car.

Bit the bullet, that is, and bought yet another Xantia, I know the spheres need changing but it's clean and tidy and cheap!!!! it also has 4 almost new tyres and a newish battery, just those alone would cost as much as I paid for the car!!!! oh yes and a digital radio / cd player (they normally remove them over here) so it was like being in a row...

YET ANOTHER... This car is blessed with the DEVIL!!

Hdi 2.o 8v 110bhp.

Cooling system problem. NEW Thermostat HAS been fitted. Cooling system flushed and filled.

Whats happening is one moment all is well, the Rad is warm to hot evenly all over, then suddenly the Temp Needle shoots up off the guage and the warning message excessive engine...

The rubber bush connecting the P/S ram to the steering rack has perished, Citroen apparently only sell the complete ram at $1250NZD + GST (15%). Needless to say, the heart just about stopped when that was said to me!

Questions I have are, can the end of the ram (as in the bush part) be unscrewed from the rest of the assembly or is it a fixed...

if you look in/under through the pasangers side wheel arch and to tyhe rear of the wheel, you might see the ram end is rubbing the arm as it pass's when you lock the steering round,

i thought that bush had failed but on closer inspection the bush was fine,

this is why i raised the rack on shim washers very slightly, an1/8th of an inch was to...

Couple of quick questons for you knowledgeable ones!

S2 estate front discs, do they run the larger 288 mm discs or the older 266mm? Am I correct in thinking they share discs with the V6 and turbo models?

Am creating a list of what to get!

What engines don't have the filter in place, Is it only the 2.0Hdi on the Mk1 C5.

I am on the lookout for a C5 after threatining to change the Xantia i have decided to go for C5..

Did look at a Merceded Cdi 270 Avantgarde and was tempted but decided no..

Any info on this filter would be appreciated.

I was driving a 56 plate C5 'Exclusive' yesterday which has the standard fit front and rear parking sensors. I quite like the display which appears on the central screen which uses a visual and audible warning to gauge the distance.

I have considered fitting sensors to the back of my C5 and to our estate too, as the facelift C5s have the bumper...

2002/52 C5 LX Estate. No climate control, just the three knobs and snowflake and recirc buttons.

Our C5 seems to be incapable of providing subtle ventilation, especially on warm days. With the distribution set to up, down and face and the fan on low I would expect a reasonable flow of fresh air. This setting seems to work fine under the same...

Our C5 has recently developed a bit of a strange noise.

It's a sort of click/clank noise that happens on speed bumps or sometimes on undulations on the road. Sometimes it will do it on the up and down strokes and sometimes down only. Very occasionally it will click when you get in the car.

Sometimes it sounds as if the noise is coming from under...

I finally got around to fixing this a couple of weeks ago. The bearings were intact but the bearing surfaces were like the Himalayas.

The bearings came from GSF and all the other parts came from Citroen. As it turned out I'd have got away with just the bearings and seals.

Complete silence from the back end now, and I think the ride is even a bit...

ok, so as most of you will know i am now activa'ted....

mine is a late mk1 so i'm assure by Mr Jim that it'll have the smaller brakes 266mm? Anyway, the point is it feels as if somebody has changed the brake pads for more eco friendly wooden ones as the pedal feel is awful and the brakes just don't seem to have any real bite.

I'm comparing this...

Main differences between MK 1 and 2? Mk 2 has Gear indicator on dash with snow and sport there also. Warning bleep on D4 when ign. off. Extra 12v socket on passenger footwell. Carpet on cd changer.
Rounder profile bumpers.

Can someone please take a picture of said quadrant light? Both my MK2's have NOT had one, and looking at the underside of the gear lettering, it appears to be totally black... Doesn't look like it was designed to let light thru :shock:

I opened the back door on my xantia and think i can see signs of rust towards the sill, I would like to save the area, so I looked at the bungs in the wheel arches and see they are looking past ther best, is there a recomended way to reseal the aea permantly to stop water ingress ?

Yes, but before you start spraying with sealants, you must make sure the area is dry, especially in the seams in the steel panels and then use a nutrealizer or rust inhibitor, like Jenolite. Once that has dried throughly, then spray with a sealant like Waxoyl.

Hi All

The dipped headlight beam on my c5 is too low does anyone know how to adjust the headlights aim as when im driving at night the dipped beam is pointing to the ground which is no good they need to be raised

Hi Guys,

RE my earlier thread about the 2 racks I have in the garage

This rack is fitted to the following petrol models 1.8 16v, 2.0 16v and 3.0 V6
This one is off a citroen xantia circa 1996 the number stamped on it is

Its free to a good home

This rack is Peugeot 3.0 v6 coupe.

My HDi 110 pulls much better at low revs since I changed the cambelt - no idea why, the timing appeared spot on before and after, but it used to judder if you asked anything of it below 1250, but now it's fine :? . 50 mph = 1750 rpm in top in a Xantia HDi 110 (or any speed you like in mine, as the speedo reads 50 most of the time anyway :lol: )

Is it as simple as changing over the flywheel from a manual engine to an auto engine to make it fit a manual car.
Or do they have the torque convertor fixing plate welded to the crankshaft.
I ask this as I have seen it on other engines all be it a lot of years ago.

After having tried to remove the old lower ball joint I gave given up and ordered a replacement hub carrier from ebay. what I need to know is the torque settings for the front wheel bearing nut.

I have remove 3 lower ball joints in the past by removing hub then applying heat to casing and using removal socket with either impact wrench or breaker bar with 6' pole attached :)

HUb is secured in a bench vice.

Amongst the many niggles on the Xsara has been the rear wiper. It's now stopped working on the switch but whenever you open the tailgate it jumps a couple of inches on the sweep.

On a hunch I ran a jump lead from the battery negative to the wiper motor body and it stopped the jumping so it looks like the earth return is NS somewhere. It may be a...

the engine management light on my 2.0 hdi van has just come on, the fault code is PO220 TPS/pedal position sensor/switch B circuit malfunction. What is the TPS and what is the best cause of action to resolve ?

Also today the van is giving problems starting. Not sure if they are connected issues but the van started ok from cold but after being run, then left for 10 minutes it would only fire up for a second before cutting out. A frinds car i have been looking at has a problem of loosing power, He drives along then looses power he takes his foot of the throttle and a second later will go back to normal.
He has changed oil & filter,plugs , leads i think and i have changed the fuel filter, I am at a loss of what the fault can be ??????
The car is a 1999 mk1 saxo 1.1 sigle...

I does anyone know how to get into the flap actuator motor on the drivers side of the heater box on a 06 plate C5 with dual zone air con . There's an airbag below the steering wheel which is in the way. Regards John

I've just bought a Xantia with 102K on the clock. The previous owner has had it since 40K and unfortunately can't remember if the timing belt has ever been done. Says he just used to get it serviced and paid the bill - wish I had the resources to do that!
Where's the best place to get a belt, I'm assuming a kit would be better with the tensioner...

Hi, to gain access to the electrical connectors to the hydraulic pump (well the 2 smaller ones anyway) do you have to remove the lds reservoir because I'm beggared if I can get my hand in as there is a pipe in the way or am I missing a trick.

Looked pretty imposible to me too but as the pump was coming out I didn't try too hard, even with the LDS tank out of the way it is still tight. You can unbolt the tank, two bolts into the wing and move it a little without having to remove pipes. It's not a hard job to remove the tank just lots of other things have to come of to do it, like all...

Can anybody enlighten me on how to check the L.D.S tank on this car. The tank is totally black, with no viewing glass, or no way to see into the tank. Or should the L.D.S level be up to the level of the recess that is fitted at the entry to the tank. I understand that the level should be checked with the suspension fully lowered.

The car has been recently purchased RichardW, it doesn't seem to have any leak, but having checked the tank it took 3/4ths of a litre to bring the level to the bottom of the cup at low setting. The car has a full service record etc.
