C5 III Window regulator

Unread post by fifth_cit »

The passenger side front window regulator recently gave up on my Tourer and after reading a few posts on the subject I decided to give it a go. I got the cables from Germany off EBAY.

The door panel is not that bad to get off and I found a method on here (transcribed from Russian) posted by bluesumo (thanks).
The shortest cable had rusted through and snapped and this post is a warning to all fellow C5 III owners to check theirs and oil or grease them before they snap as it is a pain of a job to do.

This short cable is at the bottom and is always getting wet from water dripping off the window so will rust.

This job took me quite a while and I took a few pictures along the way of how the panel came off etc and I am willing to do a write up if anyone wants it.

I intend to look at the drivers side soon to see if my repair looks like the original.

I noticed the amount of water on the glass when it comes back up. I assume the c5 III collects water in the door?

I don't think its collecting water as the bare cables run behind the guide channels that the glass moves up and down on. The design seems to allow water to drip directly onto the cables.
On my car the passenger window is rarely used which may have contributed to its failiure.

Well here we go again.

Tried to lower the drivers door window today at the Park and Ride to pay my £1.50 and the cable snapped on the window regulator. Worked fine over the weekend, no moans or groans, no sign of it failing. Not going to use the back ones untill i've checked them out and greased them.

Ordered the cables tonight (£15.99 off ebay) but it will have to wait untill the weather gets better.

Hi i wrote on the forum about a week ago regarding the cables on my 2009 c5 snapping passengers side on the friday drivers side 3 days later.
My local citroen dealer informed me that thay didnt sell the cables on there thay came as a complete unit at the cost of £255 per door and a total cost with the fitting
£728.88 RIP OF i can now confirm the repair kit now on ebay at the cost of £27 and that consists of the 3 cables the drum and the 2 plastic brackets that attache to the glass
does the job. its fiddley and needs paticence and took 5hours once the door panel was removed ive just ordered the other one and reckon i can now repair the other door in under half above time .The company is in liverpool MAIN DEALERS WHO NEEDS THEM

Hi,
I have bought the repair kit (cables) for the drivers door on my C5 as one has snapped, but can't get them to fit. When wound onto the spool. the 'system' is too loose. However, there is insufficient slack in the sytem to allow for one more wind around the spool. I can't understand what I am doing wrong?? Any photos or advice you have would be most welcome. Thanks, Graham

Success! Thanks to the info. supplied by Keith (fifth_cit), I have modified the repair cables (removed 15 mm of sheath) after which it is relatively easy to assemble the regulator. Gave it a good coating of grease, then re-assembled with the help of my new (£14) rivet tool (for the speaker). Reset the ECU, (again, thanks to Keith for the tip) and bob's your uncle, smoother than the other side!
Just waiting for passenger side to snap now!!!!!
