Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Has anyone encountered this or a similar problem?

Our C4 1.6 petrol turbo automatic hatch is 18 months old. In the past 6 months it has developed a sudden power loss issue, as though the turbo has cut out. it then appears to run in safe mode. It can last from 30 minutes to days. The worst example lasted over 500 kilometres on a long interstate...

Hello,
I am looking into buying a C5 diesel and am interested in one advertised with an engine managment light problem.
Apparently, this is intermittent and when it lights the car will go into safe mode.
So:
1 - is this a common problem and can it be cured relatively cheaply?
2 - is it a good idea to drive in safe mode for very long?
3 - what kind...

Hi, I have a 2001 Citroën C5 mk1, 2.2 hdi aut, and Lexia interface.
Lexia can’t communicate through diagnostic connector with bsi,
no any dialogs. But on another same C5 communications is normal.
I checked diagnostic connector on my C5, it is ok. Is any fuse in diagnostic line?
Or you have some ideas?

Had to be recovered by the AA today , the dispatch (2006 2.0 hdi 8v) cut out in the middle lane so I coasted onto the hard shoulder , tried restarting it but not a hope , the AA man said there's fuel in the filter and says it's a fueling issue , has anyone any ideas and potential costs etc , thanks

Please someone put me out of my misery!

I am sure my courtesy lights used to come on when a door was opened. I have searched the forum and cannot find anything about it other than a post on a 306 which wasn't helpful.

Hi, Just changed the coolant in my Fathers 1997 Xantia , T,D, The fans are not cutting in, with the temp gauge at 100. My Father isn t sure if they were working before the coolant change . Could the coolant change be responsible for the fans not working? any advice greatfully received . cheers Terry.

This sounds like the Common 3 Relay layout failure...

There are three relays between the fans behind the grill, hidden in a triangular box.. these control the fan speeds with signals from the Coolant ECU.. Its VERY common for the terminals to corrode and then arch and over heat and loose connection!

Remove your grill, then remove the top cover...

Now what have I done.........

Earlier today the display unit went dark, I checked the fuses - swapped some around to make sure they were all working then replaced each in their own slot in the under-dash fuse-box.

Now the engine will not start - the display (now initially working again) states there is a fault with the alarm system. I guess I...

Are you 100% sure you have put all the fuses back where they came from ? Id maybe go over them again using the handbook to confirm what goes where. The alarm & imobiliser systems are totally independant of each other so a fault with the alarm system should not stop it starting.

I'd noted the ES9J4 cars had the correct caliper, albeit with a different support montage , just wasn't sure how far back it went. There is a fellow breaking a red late XM (99?) on Leboncoin with V6 and LPG that looks a cracker. Auto, though - not the super rare manual!

Series 2 Xantia 1998 TD. Seems if I put in new replacement radio/cd that I cannot use steering wheel controls. Anybody know of a radio type that would still allow me to use steering wheel controls? :?:

New user on this forum but I have owned a Xantia HDi since 2006. Its the 110 version and I love it to bits, such a vastly underated car in my opinion and I love the fuel economy you can get from this engine compared to the previous TDi (I owned one of them too until I slammed it into the back of a Toyota Avensis).

Goodyear all season tyres are now available in a size to fit my C5, specifically Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons 225/55 R17 101V XL. Unlike winter tyres they are designed to be left on all year.

Reviews seem to be good, has anyone fitted them and if so what did you think? Any noise or durability issues on dry roads?

I have just put a new battery on my c5 and resynced the key and it will not let me use the small button to close the front windows.It previously worked and is rather useful when I have the dog in the car to allow fresh air in for her.

That's a bit odd.
I took my fob to bits and removed the batter, just to see what happened.

Nothing. No re-synchronising needed, it just worked.
I think it probably is about time for a new battery as I've had it nearly six years without changing the battery.

Hey all,
have an odd fault with the clock in the xantia. sometimes, the screen appears illuminated, but blank, no time/date/temp anything. after a very short while the display fades back in until it's clear and proper as usual, however, the time and date are both reset.

Most clocks have 2 power feeds: 1. power for clock, 2. feed from instrument lighting. I'd guess you have a dodgy connection on 1. Worth checking what is on same fuse as fuse box connection faults aren't uncommon.

Hi All,

I need to change the Aux drive belt. Does anybody have a home made tool to fit the idler bearing :?:

I know How to change a 1.9 TD 1998 which is the same size of belt but the idler roller bearing is a different design.

Yes, it is HDi 90 and the tensioner is definitely NOT like the 1.9TD, but would appear to be the same belt.

For anybody's info there 2 belt sizes dependent on the A?C compressor make

Hi all,
A bit frustrated with this, I'm trying to check oil level but for some reason, the oil residue on the dip stick shows up about full on the front side and half full on the back side of the dip stick surface.
Has anyone had this before?
I'm trying to get it right and also compare against the oil level meter, because it seems like overfilled...

When I had my E30 M3 I contacted BMW technical about whether to use Castrol GTX2 or the higher spec fully synthetic version, they advised GTX 2 as it has the correct viscosity so don't be fooled by buying the most expensive oil.

When it comes to dipsticks and oil level it's now quite common on many engines for the first reading upon pulling out...

Hi All,

I have gone to use my C5 Mk I this morning and the battery in the plip is dead. I've tested it and I know why it's dead; because one of the buttons has clipped under the edge of its recess and stayed on thus draining the battery. Of course unlocking with the key allows me to get inside but the car alarms regardless. The better half...

It never rains but it pours. No sooner have I fixed the hydraulic leak than the intermittent on the wiper stopped working yesterday.

This made me smile.

I collected some floor tiles for my kitchen.

The staff at the shop asked if I needed to make two journeys.

:( ok having sorted my pinion valve and ign issues and happily driving Xantia again it is silence inside :x
the battery had been disconnected and when I put code in first time I made a one digit mistake, corrected it and put correct code in several times - as I thought :roll:

Then I realised that I should have put first digit - number 3 - in on...

Leave it powered up for at least an hour or two, without interruption. This means leaving the ignition on in accessory position etc. If you disturb it, the timer can start again.

If its not safe to leave your car like this, remove the radio and power it up on the bench etc so you can leave it. It does not always work but in quite a few cases, it...

As above does anyone have any insight into how to make this easier, im talking about the
donut shaped rubber torque mount to the back of the engine underneath.
After much effort i managed to hacksaw the old one out but for the life of me i cannot get the new one in,
it is an interference fit so obvisouly is bloody tight.

Both my front tyres seem to be rubbing at some point, probably on full lock. The passenger side is worse.
I'm running 195/65/15's all round. That sound the right size?
Is it a common occurence on the mk1?

Heard a great horror story today about synthetics - if you dont let them cool down after a hard run like you would in a turbocharged car, the flowability (spelling) is so great when hot that it literally flows straight back to the sump - Dry start next time :shock:

Hi,
This is my first post on this site.
I have a Xantia 1.9 TDI Desire R rege (Jan '98), The other day when I started it up the only activity on the instrument panel was the battery light. Speedo, Tacho and gauges were not working, the Stop and Preheat lights did not come on when ign turned on. The indicator and beam lights all work.

The listings only mention diesel Citroens however they do mention the Peugeot 407 2.0 16V, which had the same EW10 J4 as my Citroen C5 SX...

Just for an update, tools that can dump the Marelli ECU in the 2 litre petrol C5 include the MPPS v12 and the MagPro2 but definitely not the Galletto or KWP2000+ (i.e. the cheap tools)

My C5 has started making sqealing noises (a bit like finger nails on a blackboard) after you get out of it. The suspension rises as you get out followed by falling back to normal height, that is the bit at when the noise is apparant.

Testing the car by changing suspension height when stationary showed that the noise only comes on the down cycle...

Linked brakes, suspension ect on an 02 C5 2.0 hdi est....it's quite bouncy over the slightest bit of rough rd more than good springs would be. That's one thing, but this carry on with everything being linked is scaring me.......christ even the handbrake's electric!!....or somthing to do with the way it works.

It's seems to a good enough car but...

Perhaps :lol: though I think that is part of it, its also why the majority of new C5s have coil springs. More simple to appleal to more people, mainly reps. No doubt it costs a great deal more to fit hydractive suspension rather than a few bits of bent spings, especially as its really a Peugeot.

Should engine failure occur the Xant etc does have...

hey guys!
just a quicky, is there any way of identifying what fuel filter i need without taking the top of the case and checking it?? ebay reveals a possible choice of 2 and sods law dictates it'll be the other one from what i order!
is a '98 S2 Xant TD estate, just started putting Veg oil in and know everyone suggests carrying a spare filter...

A mate of mine is after a Xantia to use as a run about AND complete the Citroen Classic Challenge on, I said to be careful when looking a a HDi as there seems to be quite a few problems highlighted here and elsewhere which you wouldnt get on the older technology XUDT's.

I appreciate the HDI has economy and refinement benefits but on a reliablity...

As above does anyone know if a 2003 2.0 c5 hdi gearbox has a fill level plug on the gearbox or is it just a
case of filling with the specified amount of fluid.

I have found the drain plug and am guessing the box is just filled via a breather on top but i cannot find
a level plug, i believe it is an ML5 box, any pointers gratefully recieved,...

I know ive created a couple of threads like this recently asking how difficult is it to do this or that etc. including head gasket change on a C5 HDI - the reason being is I have been looking at various Citroen's to buy and repair. However, I have now actually bought a car -a Citroen Xantia 1.9 diesel.....with head gasket failure.

Special tools. Good T55 Torx bit and breaker bar for the head bolts and an angel gauge for re-tightening them. A very good selection of 13mm spanners and small -drive sockets to get at the one difficult 13mm socket on the...

It (oil leaking into the coolant) only seems to occur if I use a lot of revs (>3,000) before the engine is properly hot. Ok the ride on my C5 2003 2.2 man exclusive is poor. I get a horrid rumble slight knocking noise more apparent at slow speeds over small road imperfections, you can make the noises louder by slightly laboring the engine and the noise is from drivers side. At speeds you can slightly hear a droning rumble noise from the drivers side, does not sound...

One on the cam belt side has failed. . I fitted a new one about two weeks ago but it has failed again and it pours oil out from the inner side.. So thats the face in contact with he crank shaft..

Xantia was busily eating $350 worth of new front tyres and I knew the toe had somehow become way out.

My checks showed the lower stuff to be good, but for certainty's sake I took it to the workshop and threw it up on the hoist. The trick here, is you position the lift pads under the car, lift it slightly to be sure, then lower right down and...

Hey guys

My tank's cracked or split so I need it out. I've removed the nuts but I can't lift it out. The piece on the bottom of it that goes into the metalwork is holding it in place.
Is that piece just going into a hole or is there a pipe going through it?
Any tips on how to pop it out? I've tried a screwdriver but that was useless :-/

Noticed that the Xantia is a bit of a slug for standing start acceleration compared to my old BX TZD (or at least how I remember it) It just feels much heavier and lumbering by comparison. It does however feel very smooth & powerful cruising at 60/70 with mountains of torque.

Is my observation correct in others opinion who have driven both? I...

A bit gutted - my new ebay 1999 TD Xant - first refil at the pump and 38.9mpg!!! I mustly do rural A-road stuff. My Petrol Merc 190 1.8 does 33 mpg so not a big improvement over that!

Had been expecting 45-50, like I used to get on my BX TZD!!

Thanks lads

I checked the front brakes at the weekend and the pads on the o/s front were binding badly and I had to virtually chisel the pads out of the carrier!. All sanded/filed down and coppa greased and the difference is amazing - better more graduated braking and it feels faster. Will do the rear brakes as soon as I can but they don't seem...
