Fuel Flap open warning

Hi all

While i am waiting for me dash bulbs theres one more niggle on my C5 sx 2.2 mk1 estate

When i get in the car it always reports the fuel flap is open?

Even though its not.

Is there a way to fix this or turn the darn thing off?

If I remember correctly the early 2.2 relies on a signal from the fuel cap to tell it when fuel has been added, such that it may add some eolys fluid for the dpf.
I'd imagine the fuel flap open message actually means fuel cap open. Id imagine it is probably a small magnet in the cap and a reed switch or similar on the car. I'd imagine if it is a reed switch it would be a normally open one so in theory you could just shortcircuit the switch.
However given that the eolys injection takes a reading from the switch you would encounter problems. I expect the best cure is getting a new cap, or alternatively fix the old one (probably needs new magnet).
I'm sure if I am wrong above then someone will correct me, however assuming I am right then you should sort it out as a matter of urgency as currently the system will not know when to inject the eolys.
