Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Trying to fix high level brake light opened tailgate pulled the rubber boot feeding the wires into the tailgate shut the tailgate now the tailgate will not open. Is there a way of manually unlocking it. Getting a bit fed up now with this car, faults seem to be multiplying.

as titled on my N reg Xantia, the switch in the scuttle panel is turned to off as whenever i disconnected the battery the alarm would sound, the car is never locked but still every morning and every evening the alarm is chirping in a very hushed (like a whisper, literaly) way.
I lock it and unlock and that shuts it up but this evening no matter...

Just used the info on this post to unplug my alarm ECU on my MK1 Xantia 1.9TD. I will get a new battery when the rest of the jobs are sorted out for the MOT. For now I am working around a pretty discharged battery, requiring jump starts and central locking, plip sorting out, correct alarm activtion being down the priority list it is nice to know...

I was thinking as i am changing the clutch on my c5 could i fit a flywheel from a 110hdi xantia to my car as a cheap solid conversion ? What i do find funny is the clutch for the c5 is cheaper than the one for an xantia !

Im really not sure either, It would fit but im thinking it probably wont.

A solid clutch conversion does work fine on the 2.0HDi 110s, but I think it is a conversion kit rather than fitting a Xantia flywheel.

Electrical problem.
I can't get the driver side mirror to fold back in towards the car. The passenger side mirror works fine :?

That's because it will have been replaced by a standard one for about £25.
The folding ones are Citroën only and cost £160 :(
We do it all the time as you can imagine .

so my berlingo has an exhaust leak between join on the manifold and cat, ive tried to tighten it but its a bugger laying on your back so im going to get a garage to do it, its also due its mot so was going to get them to do that too, so should i:

get the garage to fix it and them put it though its mot (possibly failing on other stuff)

I've recently bought an 03 plate Xsara Picasso and some of the clips which hold the boot upholstery to the door are missing. I've looked online but can't find any which match the ones already in there (which are a dark grey colour and look just like plastic nails - there's no expanding bit on the stem which makes me wonder if they are...

Thanks for all the help with the alternator belt.

Was just putting the wheel on and realised two of the wheel nuts are not tightening! One is threading in but wont tension up really tight and the other is hardly getting any purchase, the other two are fine I think what has happened is that when the car was last having the tyres changed they have...

Its unlikely I know, but just imagine your one and only key has chosen to hide itself in some unknown location.

You don't reprogram the plip, you reprogram the car....
Turn the ignition on with both plips available to point at the roof sensor.
Briefly press the lock button of each plip in turn.
Switch off ignition
Test to see if they work.
Repeat procedure if necessary.

+1 on the ABS relay, done loads of them. It's the green one behind the n/s headlight. Half the time you pull the relay out & it's so corroded that half the pins of the relay stay stuck in the plug. I had my car on my garages computer today to find out why the engine light was on, The computer come up with a few problems but one was the air flow meter, Would the air flow meter off my Xantia work on the C5 ?

I'm just under 6ft tall, leggy but no giant.
I have just purchased a Xsara picasso and the drivers seat seems very close to the controls and pedals. Is this normal? I have lifted the bar below the seat and pushed the seat back as far as it can.
Can the seat be removed and set back further from the pedals? :?

I have just bought a replacement engine for my C5, it has come with the gearbox still connected, it has a sphere mounted near the gearbox, it has the same RHZ engine code as my C5, what car would this have come from ? I was told it was from a 206 but clearly not.

Seems the Xantia engine is a less then straightforward swap, the major difference is the placing of the turbo oil return pipe, as it would require drilling into the block to relocate it, decided to admit defeat, so I have bought another engine which is from a C5, luckily I got the guy to take the Xantia engine back as he had listed it as a C5...

The auxilliery belt on my 98 xantia 1.9td snapped! I'm just in the process of checking the pulleys, which seem ok as far as I can see but i'm stil checking incase i've missed something there.

After being bamboozled by the Haynes manual I realised that it my car's aux belt didnt match the refit tension instructions. Mine involved releasing...

Had this 2001 2.0 hdi SX C5 for 2 weeks now, done various jobs on it and it is improving, the latest fault to appear is when I bought it the gauge showed just under 1/4 full and the display said 67 miles remaining drove it home 32 miles the tank empty light was now lit and display showed 27 miles, filled the tank full, gauge showed full and...

My old L reg Xantia 1.9 d went for its MOT this morning and got a first time pass.

It will need the driver's side rear arm bearings done at some time (which I knew about) but other than that no worries.

It has had a new exhaust back box, drop link, track rod, track rod end, steering rack gaitor, accumulator sphere and front discs...

Hi all, My girlfriend has a Citroen Berlingo Multispace as a recent(ish) aquisition to use as her works vehicle, and as per the title, it has a few issues.
Any help given would be greatly appreciated.

first off, the car runs very poor, it cuts out when manouvering and then requires a touch of throttle to encourage it to start.

Yes, it is. In reality it's the only thing that will properly read the codes. Citroens of this age didn't use EOBD despite having a 16 pin EOBD-style socket so most code readers are pretty useless.

Is it feasible to replace a mark one Xantia windscreen with a second hand unit ?

The car is sorn'd and uninsured and well beyond economic repair, despite this I started to replace the heater matrix and have managed to crack the windscreen while I was removing the scuttle trim (too much heat ? ).

I have heard of the comms units failing and would like to know what faults they can produce ? I have noticed with my car that it can do a few strange things I am sure i saw the headlights come on on there own, Also the air bag light is on, Could it also cause the engine fault light to come on ? A comms unit is nt a hard or expensive thing to do, Engine light hopefully i will find out tomorrow !
Xantia does need alot of work brakes & suspension etc
A bit of me is considering leaving it in the corner of the garden and fixing it at a later date !
But apparently the C5 is the way forward ?? !!

Either way - I also suffer from them but a couple of years ago I remember reading a PSA page about their HDI engines in which it said they were OK on biodiesel up to a maximum of 30%.
oh right ok well have just filled it with bio 100% for a long journey and changed the fuel filter. watch this space lol

Indeed, and it's all my fault - I took him to pick up his first (and maybe 3rd or 4th (who's counting?)) Xantia.

So, I've got a Citroen C5 -01
And both backdoors went into superlocking and I don't know how to get them up.

I'm pretty sure the childlock = off, I've removed the door card and I've tried both on the childlock and still it didn't work. So I now need to somehow get into the striker mechanism and destroy it.

What's the easiest/best way to reach it...

I've now checked all fuses inside the car and they were not broken. The fuses I haven't checked are the ones under the hood, it stood in my instructionbook that Only citroen workshop should check them .
So where to go now? I were out few secs and tried unlocking my car in different ways, I tried both types on the childlock while having both inside...

Hi, just removed the rear wheels from my series 1 Xantia, both tyres have worn on the inside edge. they have been on the car about two years . I tried to move the wheels to see if there was any bearing wear, but they were both ok.. any body got any ideas, cheers Terry .

Yep basically the same. Its a long time since I did a BX but I think the main difference is that on the Xantia the rear suspension cylinders have to come off.

If you can disconnect the ABS sensor at the connector on the top of the subframe and leave it in the arm you are less likely to wreck it trying to get them out of the arm seems to upset...

the cylinder on 1 of my rear brakes has gone, both end of the brake pipe are also stuck so i was thinking - if i buy another cylinder can i just remove the piece's and swapped them with my duff 1?

well as you have a flaring tool just buy/get a length of kunifer,

maybe a local garage will sell you enough for you to make a new pipe up

Hi. I have vibration at all speeds. Have changed front pads and discs. New tyres and balanced but vibration still there. This weeked will change track rod ends. Anything else worth changing to rid the vibration

Probably 95% of vibration problems are tyre related, try swapping you front and rear tyres over, as saab95 says you could have ply seperation causing a bulge in the tyre, this often doesn't show up when the wheels are balanced. I am about to change the front disks and pads on my C5, Euro sell Eicher pads and disks anyone advise if they are any good is cheap poor quality in this case if so any recommendations on what make to get.

Got my wood effect trim bits for the dash to compliment my nice leather and door cards , I have the main panel fitted and have a full glovebox with the wood effect bit. Does anyone know if its possible to take the wood panel off and swap it to my glovebox or wil I have to swap the whole lot (or at least the door). If I've to swap out the door at...

Hi, my drivers seat (Xantia), when sat in the drivers seat, right hand side , low down, there is a small lever. I have pulled it up and down and even tried the pump fitting on the end, NOTHING, it does NOTHING! Anybody tell me what its funtion is? sorry for the question. cheers Terry . #-o

Have just bought my first Ctroen C5 2005 hdi VTR I can see the space and bracket for the CD Multichanger under the drivers seat also the wiring seem to be there for the CD Changer, what model of Changer do I need and also do I need the audio connection cable from Changer to Head unit? is the changer MP3 Compatible? and is this all plug and play or...

Actually I have dumped the whole Idea of a CD Changer and gone for an MP3 FM Transmitter off ebay £9 delivered plugs into the lighter socket and tunes into the FM Radio, no need for all this Lexia mumbo jumbo.

Hi, the front suspension on my Xantia is very hard causing a bouncy ride but it had 2 new front spheres 7 months ago. The problem began in an intermittent manner - it was sometimes bouncy and sometimes fine. Now it's always bouncy.

It's a M reg Xantia with 6 spheres. The accumulator sphere needs replacing but it doesn't sink at all. I've just...

Also, the rear has started sinking which it never did before. I changed all of the spheres except the antisink. It only sinks to what should be normal height for the rear though so I'm wondering if the lever setting might be out a bit?

Dear all,

I have just acquired a used Citroën Xantia 2.0 16v, first registered in the year 2000.

The original instruction manual didn't come with the car. I have tried to google which octane the car needs, but without luck.

Does this car need 95 octane petrol? Or can I safely drive on the cheaper 92 octane as I've been used to so far? :-)

Pedal fell to the floor this morning on the way to pick up my daughters new computer from Whitechapel. Managed to limp it home, to Edgware from Holloway Rd.,quite hairy I can tell you. Good job it wasn't rush hour!
I suspect it's the clip at the pedal end.Clutch, cable, & clip were all replaced about 3yrs ago.
Without the car I can't get to work...

Hi All,

just had success with repairing a spare tailgate push button unit for a Mk.1 Xantia which had failed springs (common fault due to water ingress?). I managed to source an almost direct replacement spring from RS Components and they fit and work a treat. So I thought that I would pass on the info.
The springs are RS number 751-411 and come...

Early '90s Pug airhorns failed because water rested inside them, and being mounted with brushgear to the bottom, the brush springs rotted to nowt.

Sounds like I could possibly make brush springs out of piano wire.

I have read loads of threads on the forum concerning this problem. My car is a 2000 2.0 HDI the problem has been a little while in coming fan would blow intermitantly and then gave up on Friday. All the accounts I have read on forum dont seem to come to a happy end they just stop. Is there any diffinitive accounts account as to how to tackle this...

yes Xantia has climate control, will check that out, the thoughts of removing the dash board fills me with horror and so thats what I would have to do to fix wire from fuse 21 to air con switch. Many thanks and kind regards

Does anyone know if the C5 (2005 vintage) had an option for larger wheels/tyres. Mine have 16 but I'm going to need a full set of new tyres soon and just thinking about whether 17 /18 ones were available as optional when new. There seems to be plenty of room under the wheel arches.

Hi Guys, just wondering, when i bought my Xantia Exclusive 2000 it came with a Clarion CD Player in the boot with the 13 pin CBus connector, it has given up the ghost. If i just swop it for another 13 pin CBus connected CD Player will it work from my standard head unit ok.

It is likely to, depending on the compressor type as the two versions have different pulley sizes.
Cassy will take a 1720 while Jenny insisted on a longer belt (fitted a 1740 in the end)

Just back from MOT with daughter's Xsara and a new ticket to go with it. Only one advisory which was for a misted headlamp. That's all four cars done for this year. But I would have been p*££ed off if the Xsara had failed because I've done a load of work on it during the past couple of months. New front pipe and cat, new heater motor, new rear...

im convinced i've got a fluid lead (keep needing to top up!)

im going to check the calipers/drums first, does the pipes go straight to the master cylinder or does it goes elsewhere first then to the ms?

somoene give that man a cigar! the good side is indeed seized, so ive been driving using only the front brakes :roll:

managed to get side with the leaky piston sorted, so now need to buy another piston (or a repair kit preferably) as the pipe seems to be seized.

you could try some of the tyre garages I have heard from others experience that may have the right tools to remove locking nuts if you dont have the key ,ight be worth getting them all taken out and replaced with new ones with a key sooner rather than latter incase of a puncture

That is effectively the engine management light - it could mean anything. Lexia required. If it's a 90 BHP model then it won't have a DPF so that could be ruled out....

hi all i,ve not had my berlingo van long its a 2008 reg but i,ve noticed the mileage display pixels are playing up and getting very faint could i buy a used speedometer would it still show my mileage as its only done 56k with history, or would it show the donors mileage thanks

As above really it will take the higher mileage, you'd have to change both the BSi and the clocks from the same donor to stand a chance of keeping the mileage, and then it might not work. Not 100% sure but if you just change the clocks as Wheeler has said it will go up, not down.
