Xantia Hdi - Thermostat stuck open??

Post by gadgetgricey »

Aware the Hdi's run cold, but there's cold and COLD.

Even after car's been used for 30 mins plus, the temp gauge never seems to go above 60oC.

Changing the themostat at the weekend, just wondered if anyone has any other ideas.

Cheers

Try thrashing it a bit!

I have two alternative routes to work, on bimbling along quiet backroads on the level, the other up a long steep hill on a motorway.
It heats up OK on the first route, the one I normally take as the motorway is generally clogged up in the morning but on days I do take that route, it is hot by the time I crest the hill.

The Hdi engines produce very little heat that's why the later ones have an auxiliary heater, unless you are giving it some welly it probably won't reach normal temperature in the cold weather. The easy way to check is to feel the radiator, if normal temperature is not being indicated it will be cold if the thermostat is OK because you heater is absorbing the entire heat output.

When mine failed the obvious way of telling was the engine cooled down when parked up.

Typically mine runs at 75 degrees.

As said though they are rather efficient
