Xantia – loose steering

Post by lancia58 »

Hi

Since I bought my Xantia ( 2.0 16 v Automatic , power steering ) I have the feeling that the steering is a bit loose. Any hole on the road deflects the steering wheel a bit. I don’t know if that’s normal or not. I also have a C4 at which the steering feels more solid

Thanks
Zohar

Perhaps a bit of wear in trackrod ends, and/or balljoints or bush(es) in the front suspension?

Could be that the tyres are to hard or worn.

Try the void bushes on rear of wishbones turn wheel to left/right then lay down so can see to back of them and see what they look like as they get ripped and each time you move wheel they move back n forth also you get tyre edge scrub also with them gone common problem esp if poor quality or incorrectly fitted ie car not sat squat when lined up as when you press bushes in they need to be so when cars sat right they arn't twisted are they fail prematurely.
Other has as been said lower ball joints also wheel bearings but norm have to be quite bad try rocking front wheel by pushing top of tyre but have to get motion of cars weight going with it then if bearing etc are going you will feel play
But also rear arms can cause what feels like front when on the move esp at speed

The cause is worn steering ram bushes, replaced them and the streening feels much more solid

Thanks
