2.0 hdi xantia won't fire

Post by taffy »

Hi all...well can I first say thanks to u guys after changing cam belt etc I've done 5000 lovely miles feeling like a new engine :-) however over the last 6-700 miles it's been running rough as in irregular idling hesitating and not feeling 100 % and also noticing alot of knocking at low revs anyway went to reading and back this morning and she went ok,left her two hours and went to start her anf she will not fire...checked low pressure pump ok key immobilized ok fuel filter brand new today cracked injectors and fuel getting there checked inertia checked fuses now disconnected battery for a bit see wat happens....any ideas would be very appreacited :-)

Taffy, you need to pop it on a Lexia. That'll show the problem.

It may well be one of the pressure sensors has failed and is telling the ECU (wrongly) there is insufficient fuel pressure to allow the engine to run.

It's one of those things whereby 5 minutes with a Lexia can save hours of guessing and fruitless part substitution in an attempt to nail the issue.

HI Jim mate hope u been well :-)
Yeah I would love to put her on a Lexia but it's bit out of reach for me now as car won't start and I really dont want to use easy start....I've taken the stop solenoid off the pump and checked its not jammed but can't check it working I need to take of rail sensor too it's odd it tried to start and then hasn't since

Taffy, there's a good chance it is the rail sensor..

What you think is a stop solenoid on the pump is not. It's the third piston deactivation solenoid to reduce the load on the pump at high revs.

Is there not someone local to you with a Lexia?

No, there's no stop solenoid on the HDi in the way there is on a mechanically pumped system Taffy.

The ECU stops the engine by not opening the injectors - much as it's done in a petrol injection system.

Crank Sensor...

A lexia wont tell you anything is the Egine managment light is NOT ON.. However, you can go into the parameter measurements and see what the few sensors on the engine are telling you..

To check for. Cam and crank syncronisation. If theres no crank syncro thats the crank sensor on top of the bell housing, under the thermostat temp sensor house...

Then check the fuel rail pressure sensor is sensing the fuel pressure. These are generally reliable.

Cam sensor, sits behind the cam pully on top of the head. Generally only used on cranking to ensure the cam is in the correct position..

Me, for not starting, and you ARE certain the fuel pump is working would go for the crank sensor. 1x 10mm nut.. I had an SX in once, and it wouldn;t go. I removed the crank sensor, and wiped it and re-fitted it and the car started first time.

Its a tight space, but it is possible to get it from there with everything except the air filter housing in place!

Thats all the HDi 8v looks at for starting.
