It could be worth considering changing the gearbox oil. It isn't difficult to do. You will need 2L of Total BV 75W80 oil (you can get it from Citroen, about £15), and the gearbox takes 1.8L. Filling the box is best done through the reverse switch hole. Do make sure to get the right oil, as some gearboxes won't be happy with anything else.

Hi all.

As detailed in the thread about back bumper mounts (there aren't any!!!), once I finally got the bumper off I found a nightmare of design incompetence.
There are triangular buttresses intended to provide rigidity where the rear chassis legs meet the back panel.
Due to inadequate drainage, these buttresses fill up with crud and rot away....

The front of my C5 drops when I switch the ignition off.
It rises immediately I switch the ignition on again.
I think it might take a bit of time to drop, but rises as soon as the ignition is turned on. Can't feel anything else wrong when driving and I didn't really notice it until I started the car up with the DRL reflecting on the garage door....

After replacing the buses and the arm cover I found out that the ram is leaking ( LHM in the plastic cover). Can a leaking steering ram be fixed ? Any Citroen fixing kit? The part number is 4005A2

The fans are run from a separate sender that sits in the rad - I pulled that one and tested it last night, that was also when I figured out there's more than one temp sender on the unit.

As you say, that one is open under 90 odd degress, and completes the circuit above.

I need to sort one simmilar too, but what im going to do which you need to do VERY CAREFULLY as they will be brittle is remove the heater matrix feed pipe, but be very carefull they do break easilly.

Once off use a GOOD power full hose and BLAST the matrix out!

Only other thing to do is pipe one pipe off the cylinder head outlet at the gearbox...

Xantia mk2 central locking

Hi guys..

Purchased a new mk2 xantia, thinking of driving it & not breaking it if I can fix a few problems! :-) Abs light is constantly on..
And the central locking doesn't work.
I think some of the door locks are seized. When I lock the doors the central locking automatically unlocks all again.
Anybody have any ideas on the problems? :-)

Ok, got resistance readings from the abs sensors.

Rear right 1060 ohms
Rear left 1604 ohms
Front right 1145 ohms
Front left 1097 ohms
Rear left 1604 ohms would be the conflicting value, causing the ABS light.

In my Xantia II '98 I had to change only one abs sensor and it was the rear left :?
This might be just a coincidence but all other 3...

With the nearside front window down and turning left at low speeds in second gear I can hear quite a loud rattling noise coming from the nearside front. The more lock I have on the steering seems to make the noise more pronounced. Disappears when you accelerate or if the steering wheel is straight. I can't hear it in the car unless the window...

Sounds like the n/s CV joint is failing, they usually make a sort of clicking noise. If it drives OK otherwise I wouldn't worry to much about it, if it gets bad enough to need changing it will let you know.

Hi i recently bought c4 1.4 16v and have couple problems. Clock is at 170k km. I do belts change and oil change.
After oil change i notice that lifters are loud when its cold and when its warm its less noisy but noticeable, they also do tak-tak-tak like diesel. I assume when i change all lifters it will be ok.

The Ol' Rattle bus has just had its Yearly failure sheet test done,
the most serious of the fails was the rear pipe bursting during the test, other than that is a small patch of welding, a rear wheel bearing and a seatbelt!

now, could i ask for the help of the collective over the part i need, its the Curly wurly pipe that has gone by the looks...

Had someone plug on my car just to check all good. Only thing mentioned was EGR not closing fully.

When my car is cold it seems flat when pulling off, when pulling off the car will almost immediately drop power for a split second.

The accelerator seems to be all ok according to the diagnostic, would the egr not closing fully cause any...

The valve is not too difficult to remove, but it's well worth investing in a set of the special pliers to release the clips, they are easily damaged, and very hard to reuse if you bend them even slightly.

The VSX has been suffering badly from condensation recently. A new rubber mat in the passenger footwell had a little puddle on it yesterday - looks like rainwater ingress through the pollen filter. Blocked plenum chamber drains? But where should I look? Being lazy I know, but I have little spare time in daylight at present.

Can anyone tell me if the black nylon fuel pipe running from rear to front for a S2 xantia hdi is 8mm OD and what is the best way to join them together? is it using brass compression fittings? what about push fits.

Also where can you buy the Citroen push fits to join onto the fuel pump in the tank and onto the diesel...

I've found a great site that sells all the nylon pipes and brass fittings plus lots of other stuff at SSL Diesel Parts at great prices, just ordered the repairs kit plus pipes and fittings for plan A & B to get the old girl back on the road. Should be able to do the repair Friday. I will let you know how it goes.

Hi all

Got a C5 disel mk1

Tried to start this morning and it went engine imboliser fault.

But i knew the battery was being odd last week.

So after cursing i got my old vectra battery on the car (Lower ampage i know) and i started fine.

How ever the fuel guage thinks i got half a tank of fuel. when i know i have but it has been playing up last...

On my series 2 Xantia - I have a fault with the window mechanism - I have fitted an new motor - but when the window goes up it is now at an angle. There is a guide for the window to travel up which is in the end of the door which has the speaker - but the other end of the door there appears to be no guide.

Im sure theres just the one LOWER guide in the door, BUT there should be a Glass Guide CLIP inside the Seal Area Rubber of the door.. On the Virtucally Straight Side. Theres a small hole in the glass that it clips into.. You might need to pull the Rubber window seal out of the framr a bit to see if its there, or not.

I know there are those that dont like using the dipstick method of oil extraction (this method divides opinions) but last weekend when removing the sump bolt from my 2001 C5 I found sump thread removed by the bolt and when I replaced I did so very gingerly and felt the sump pans thread has seen better days.

hi, found the issue, i replaced my starter ( after being told there were two options for my car a 1.4kw and a 1.7kw - bear that in mind when ordering )
the old starter was 'made in italy ' - well there you go nough said eh ? :rofl2:

anyways the whole casing was falling apart and shorting out the battery and engine / explains the long cranking...

The mk2's still have batteries in the sensors, citroen estimate the battery life at 10 years.
I assume the animal chips & transponder chips don't need batteries because the range is so short, not usually more than an inch, the wheel transmitters are about a foot & a half away so I imagine they would still need a power supply.

hi all dad has just braught a c4 2009 1.6 hdi and on starting has a occasional engine hunt on hooking up a snapon diag toy i had a egr related fault code (code to follow sorry) but this car is running on tickover at 750rpm instead of the recommended 850 i believe..... also it has the elecronic auto box which when in first and trying to pull away...

I have a xantia 2.0 hdi estate S2 that i was reversing into the drive but the fuel line under tray that is attached to the subframe came detached and was hanging down. Is it possible to change the front parking sensors on a 2005 MkII C5 without removing the front bumper? My lexia says I have one which isn't working.
At the moment I do not have the engine undertray fitted if that makes a difference.

I know we all like pictures so after being told I could find the make of fuel system on the car simply by looking at it ( duh on my part ) I decided to have a look and take some pics.

Anyway, this is a 105k 2.0HDi engine and Im pretty pleased with how it looks.
I see the glow plugs are fairly well obstructed but at least they are on the front of...

I've only had the car since June 1012 so it's a little early to have noticed some things. :oops:

Having had a battery/starting problem recently, I've begun to take a little more interest when starting the car.

What I've found is that the engine will not rev above 3000rpm in neutral. I thought it was the dreaded limp mode but there were no fault...

5 months ago I swapped a lovely alfa gt 2 door coupe for a citroen c5 due to a new baby. It was a bit of a panic swap and I didn't do much research about the citroen.

The Citroen c5 2.0hdi VTR+ is actually a nice looking car (in black) and got loads of kit on and a high spec but AWFUL suspension, it's like driving a speedboat! It's a 08 plate...

Hi All,

Hose sorted with new jubilee clip and sealed nicely.

Emptied old coolant and refilled with new and it would appear to have solved problem with water reheater as per link above.
It was a large air lock which caused the heater plugs to over heat and cause a potential fire within engine bay....

rear belt mount angles hatch - estate?

Picked up a pair of rear belts from the local yard earlier, (not allowed in the yard type, just the office!) came from a hatchback, (french lefty mk1)
Now, they seem to work in an upright angle as against the estates angled forwards, thus, they wont work in the car, wont release at all when fixed in, and Also lazy too,

Hi Guys,

Stationary on the motorway today and the car behind hit my C5 estate, guessing it was going between 5-15mph, some damage to there front bumper.

They have basically hit my tow bar which I use for towing my caravan.

Would this need to be replaced, is it likely there could unseen damage underneath?

My car is a 2002 C5 2.2 Hdi Exclusive...

The heater/blower decided to stop working the other day. Following advice on this forum this is what i've done.
Bypassed the pcb, motor works
Connected the motor properly, pressed the pcb relay, motor works.
Ckecked power on the orange wire, engine running, no...

Since your ram is causing problems as well, can you get a 2nd steerng rack for your motor and swap over.

The reason is i tried and failed to replace the seal on my Old TD which leak from the same spot on the pinion valve and it ended up leaking from the bottom seal within the rack, resulting in a pool of green blood all over the road...

6 x Cast Iron Radiators on a full length wooden cargo bed with 6 metal tie downs welded to metal L section cross spreaders....
