EGR valve not closing 100% would it cause a problem?

Unread post by waynedance »

Had someone plug on my car just to check all good. Only thing mentioned was EGR not closing fully.

When my car is cold it seems flat when pulling off, when pulling off the car will almost immediately drop power for a split second.

The accelerator seems to be all ok according to the diagnostic, would the egr not closing fully cause any problems. Sure he said not fully closing or was it fully opening????

Well before I blanked mine off it had similar symptoms - hesitation at busy roundabouts trying to pull away and the flailing in front of oncoming traffic was one of the most fun ones. I had de-egr'd electronically but fitting the blanking plate made the most difference, so I assume that the egr was sticking slightly open, a bit like it sounds yours might be doing.
If you really wanted to, they can be removed and cleaned up.
Now I have a question - how does the ecu know the position of the egr? I can't remember seeing any wires (though admittedly I've never looked too hard) to a position sensor. Other theory I've heard is that it references the MAF info to tell. Any way however it does it I wouldn't want to advise anyone to fit a blanking plate and then have the eml on /warning message or possibly limp mode.
(I'm presuming egr needs to deselected in the ecu first)

How hard is it to remove the egr valve? Is the clamp that holds on the pipe reusable?

The valve is not too difficult to remove, but it's well worth investing in a set of the special pliers to release the clips, they are easily damaged, and very hard to reuse if you bend them even slightly.
Look on eBay for Clic clip pliers
