Xantia MKII - Leaking steering rack

Post by lancia58 »

It looks like there is a leakage from the steering rack in my MKII 2.0 16v automatic with power steering . I logged on to Citroen service but there isn’t a breakdown of the steeting rack ? What is the most common cause for a leakage of the steeting rack ? How can it be fixed ? Any Citrone part numbers ?

I found two pictures in the forum of the rack ( it is not from my car just for refernce , the red arrows pointes to the suspected leaking points.

If there is a leak at the point the arrow points to can this be fixed ?

Can the pointed seal be replaced ? If yes any Citroen ref number ?

Thanks

Seal(s) are leaking --> solution: replace seals.

You can find more information about this problem if you make a search
with the "magic" words: Pinion Valve

My Xantia had the same problem once. The seals of the pinion valve was the problem.
I found this link from a Japanese page describing the same job on a BX (same in Xantia).
Have a look at this which would give some idea

Zohar,

Since your ram is causing problems as well, can you get a 2nd steerng rack for your motor and swap over.

The reason is i tried and failed to replace the seal on my Old TD which leak from the same spot on the pinion valve and it ended up leaking from the bottom seal within the rack, resulting in a pool of green blood all over the road flowing out of the steering rack rubbers.

It can be done and there is pinion valve kits available online.
