Xantia camshaft gear pinion hub

Post by Duracell »

Following a bit of self inflicted engine damage ( Broken cam belt) I have had to find a replacement pinion hub for the camshaft gear on a 1999 2.0Hdi 110 Xantia. I sourced a hub from a 2.0Hdi 90 Picasso which Service Citroen say has the same part No. as the Xantia (0805 E2). It turns out that it is not the same - It mounts the gear ok, but the plate behind, which I assume triggers the camshaft position sensor is different. It appears to be the same in the TDC position but is a completely different shape elsewhere. I don't know the detailed function of the position sensor so I'm not sure of the impact of this - Any help would be welcome

Regards

I had this before on a broken timing belt HDi, The replacement ordered (from Citroen) had a completely different shaped trigger plate so I was convinced it would not start the car, the parts dept were sure it was the correct one for the car ( it superseded onto this part number), as the timing holes & woodruff key were in the same position & knew it would not cause any valve damage so I fitted it anyway & the engine started no problem. It should be fine, just check that the timing hole & woodruff key matched the original.

Hi Malcolm - I bought all the parts to do the belt back in 2009 when the car had done about 180,000, but as you might remenber I've struggled to work on cars recently, so it did not get done - I've been looking at the alternator belt all this year thinking I must get around to doing it, but it finally beat me to it at 210,000 miles (120,000 miles since the last one) and broke taking off the cam belt - 3 broken rockers and the key on the pinion broken so not too bad. Its not in daily use at the moment so I have time to fix it at my own speed.

There will be no worries about bent valves, the HDi is designed to break the rockers instead.

Be sure to have ALL the metal and needle rollers out from the rocker arms.. use a good strong pencil magnet or something.

Could of supplied you with ALL the HDi parts, got an engine here with cooling system problems but a complete top end.

It is possible that you have resolved the problem. However, with some faults the ECU needs to see a series of clean cycles before it will accept the fault has been fixed. Best to see what happens after a week or so.
