I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

HELP!!
Can anybody tell me how to locate the crankshaft for timing belt replacement ?
I was told there was a hole actually in the crankshaft to locate a peg but i'll be blowed if i can feel it. Does it just locate on the crank web or is there a hole?

Totally agree with Anders.
Second thing I'd do if I were you, assuming you still want to do the job after reading the manual. Get a cam timing kit form Ebay or somewhere as they sell specific ones for different Renault models. This will have the locating pin and a cam set tool too that takes all the guess work out of it.

Hi all, I was returning an LDV minibus I have been welding for MOT, when the owner took me to his friend's car.

Megane temperature problem

Got a Megane 1.6e Sport and it's just failed it's MOT on the emissions. The fuel mixture goes up and down like a yo-yo according to the analyser and I think it's related to the temperature because when it's cold it runs fairly well, but as it warms up it gets lumpy - probably over rich mixture. Once warm, the dashboard temperature gauge goes up...

Thanks for the info. Having now got one of these for youngest daughter. It has had full service history including cam belt change at about the 5 year mark (64k)
I note that the oil filter is probably one of the smallest I have ever seen on any engine before. I also note that it is exactly the same fitting as those fitted to the PSA diesels, which...

I have looked through various archives but have not found an answer to my particular problem.

Vehicle idles as though low on power and misfires on 2 cylinders (drops off No 1 & 4 cyls)

submarine warning light comes on when driving

OBD laptop says misfire on 1 & 4 ! (yeah I got that bit - lol)

No sensors or components listed as faulty :?:...

Otherwise you may run the engine in complete darkness (bonnet open :wink: ) and look for any small or vague bluish arcing on the ignition system components.

How about if I put my tongue on the leads with engine running ?

Would it be like testing a 9v battery ? - lol lol lol :shock:

megane cold starting problem

my friend has a year 2000 1.6 16valve megane and it has developed a slight problem with cold starting. it will turn over and fire and start but soon as you touch the throttle it dies then will not start again for some time after. other times it will start and run ok
it seems to start ok once it has been driven and has been warm and i was wondering...

I can't help with the ARB's I'm afraid, but stiffer shocks may help, but would also harden the ride.

If you're not carrying anything in the back, then throw in 4 or 5 x25kg bags of sand over the rear axle, as the low domn wieght will help to stabelize it, and although temporary, it,s real cheap.

I have a 1999 Laguna facelift 1.9 tdi with the clear headlights. The MOT tester has flagged up very hazy lens on the headlights as an advisory . Is there any way of refurbishing the plastic lens or do I need to buy new headlamp units?

Have they checked the tensioners and rollers yet? Or (as I'm guessing) have they told you they've got to be done .
If it's the latter, tell them where to go - you've become a victim of the maximise the profit from each customer policy.
What you need is a sensible garage that will do the belt, but check the condition of the rollers, tensioner and...

My parents have a megane scenic 2.0 rxe. I think its a y plate.
I drove it for the first time recently and the clutch is horribly stiff.
They've owned the car since new and renult have serviced it all its life. I think its on the original clutch.
Is it normal for it to be quite a stiff pedal?

My daughters '98 Megan 1.6 E has a sound very much like a rumbling wheel bearing coming from the front. According to Haynes BOL the wheel bearings should last the life of the car (???)

Water drawn into diesel engine

Hi all, just a bit of advice needed really.

I have seen a clio van locally, but it has been driven through a deep puddle and drawn water into the engine, and now won't start.

I haven't seen the van itself, and don't know any more than this, but what I want to know is....

Is this likely to be terminal? Is is possible to get the water out if not...

I'd assume the engine is beyond salvation - if it won't start, then someone has tried..and probably finished the engine off. Probably as much use as a boat anchor now...
The carnage could be slight or terminal - at least a head gasket. At worst, snapped camshaft (it can happen), bent conrods - i've seen a few banana shaped ones...the list goes on.

Ihave a 1999 Laguna mk 1 turbo diesel with 93000 miles which is difficult to start when the weather is cold. Once started is ticks over and runs perfectly. A garage replaced the T.D.C. senser and air mass meter which made no difference. The glow plugs and it circuits have been checked twice with no fault found. Could it be the coolant temp senser,...

Thanks for the info but the glow plugs have all been checked both by myself and by two garages. It was suggested to me that if I disconnected the battery for about an hour this would reset the ECU. Tried it, I think the car is running better but will have to wait for some cold weather to see if starting is improved!

On examination I noticed there is (and please excuse the layman's term here) a sort of metal bar which runs from side-to-side at the rear in front of the rear beam. Unless the Megane is known to have dodgy speedo heads, I'd say its the standard problem with dirty/bad contacts on the axle transmitter unit. Also the cable could for any reason be damaged.

You will find the cable/sender unit on a protruding lump on the differential unit directly above one of the driveaxles where they enters the differential...

had a bit of a fopare when i tried to jump start a T reg 1.6 petrol senic today,put jump leads on to it and the other end by mistake touched across the wrong polarity onto a zafiara WHOOOP!!!!!!!,now after fitting new battery to the senic it cranks over but wont start,the central locking dose not opperate at all now nither dose the hazerd...

But most cars have relays wired backwards to protect the ecu's in cases like these, i did a search but couldnt find anything out about the scenic, but i will keep looking

2000 Laguna 1.6 16v Coil/spark problem + excess fuel

Hi all

the brother in-law's laguna 1600cc 16v on a X plate year 2000 .

no.4 coil died, make is denso not the sagem type, so replaced it (from renault) and car still ran on 2 cylinders ( 2&3 )

All plugs replaced with new multi point type (from renault) still ran on 2&3 , moved coils + plugs from 1&4 into 2&3 position and 2&3 coils + plugs to...

checked all 4 coils packs + wiring for breaks , resistance and continuity, all OK and working ok

with car running (on 2cyls) cylinders 2+3 coils fire correctly - that being the coil is enigized with 12v, the earth (or signal) wire has it circuit broken by ecu/tdc sensor, the coil fires as it should be!

But 1+4 coils have 12v...

This car was driving OK when it was parked for a short time, the friver re entered the ignition card and the only thing that will now work is the heater. Renault say diagnostics show that it is blowing fuses? and that a new harness is required..........and experience on this anyone please.
The car had a new engine build after an EGR valve packed...

Scenic Jammed rear door

please help
one of the kids was messing with the locking button on the rear door and it will now not unlock
I have dismantled the door card and disconnected the central locking mechanism then tried moving the actual lever on the door latch with long nosed mole grips but it is solid
any ideas ?

Having removed the door card, & disengaged the various rods from the lock & solenoid I removed the solenoid itself.
This held in by a 8mm bolt and 2 locating lugs.
Once this is out you can see more clearly. I do it with this in place next time as I know what I'm looking for.

Help, Clio failed MOT a second time! Both for high CO. Fitted new Lambda sensor, made a dramatic difference but still high on Natural Idle Test . First time, CO was 5.2%, now reads 1.7%, engine running a lot better but still cannot pass MOT.

Any advise on what else could affect CO at idle speed?

Garage has suggested catalytic converter or ECU...

Seems one thing after another with this car, now the passenger side heating (climate controlled) isn't working. Blower is working and I can get cold and aircon but no warm or hot. The drivers side seems unaffected..Any ideas?

As an update for information purposes, it was a faulty climate control unit (the expensive bit in the dash)..phew! lucky...

Trying to get a battery for a renault scenic s reg 1.6 petrol.

Its the sealed type that going uder the drivers seat. Have tried all the parts/battery places I could get to this morning and no one has it. I even tried halfords and they dont even stock them. So does anyone know where I can get one or is it a case of getting a bank loan and going to...

i'll second that renault main dealer in norwich , they are complete beep beep beeps!! 3 goes to fit a laguna clutch cable and they left bits loose hence the 3 goes. done FOC though

then again seat main dealers norwich ain't much better either they fitted a ecu to sisters mpv, it got 2 miles out the workshop and failed again, because of the wet...

roof fault with new megane CC

Our new shape Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet with the 1.9dCI engine has developed a fault with the folding roof. The Renault dealer cannot find the fault.

The car will be fine, then when you come to opperate the roof it will get stuck, and an error message comes up on the drivers display. It then has to be manually closed.

Has anybody else had...

If only the Renault dealer could find and fix it, its on its 4th visit, maybe 5th! They have contacted Renault's technical group, were told there are a few of them covering the whole country and they will inspect it. Seems a lot of tishtosh to me, lets see.

got a 97 P 2liter rxe megane scenic, milometer(the small digital counter under the speedo) light gone out.... :( How can i fix it? is it a light bulb or actual digital screen?? how easy to take the instrument panel off? hope its not a steering wheel off job. Ive heard they only came with KM/h digidashboards so was wondering how they cope with the MOT at all?

Ive been told renault offer RHD headlamps, how much are these at all?

Hi Everyone

I have a problem that i think my fan motor has failed. Have tried several checks but it does seem dead. Before i buy a replacement could any one do the foolowing double check for me?

When i try and rotate the fan, engine off!, the fan is stiff and hard to turn. I would think that it should be quite free thus indicating a seized...

We have now more or less given up on actually finding out what is wrong with the car, and would just like to be able to reset the fault detected Circuit as it occures so infrequently. The other option is to disable the fault detection circuit. Any Suggestions?
