Clio 1.2 16v idle problem please help !!!!!!!

Unread post by philr »

My daughter’s y reg Clio 1.2 16v has done 30k and has a weird intermittent problem - it sometimes cuts out when slowing down at lights etc. There is an orange light comes on (electronic fault) and the car idling speeds up and slows down of its own accord. It also nearly stalls and if it does it wont start again for a while. This only happens when the light appears otherwise the car runs perfectly. It has happened 4 times in the last 2 weeks. We have had a diagnostic computer check done but the light wasn’t on at the time and the garage couldn’t find anything wrong. If the light appears, can dipping the clutch and revving the engine sort it?? My daughter needs her car for getting to work and is worried she will break down all together. Any suggestions of help would be appreciated. The car is fully serviced and looked after. We are going to get the timing belt done, as it is 5years old.

We phoned Renault service and they suggested that the air idle control valve needs cleaned. This cost £85 to do. It ran well for a week then started playing up even worse.
We then had the car fully serviced – all filters done - oil changed – plugs replaced. At the same time we did the timing belt due to the car being 5yrs old. During this service we got the mechanic to change the air idle control valve with one from a dismantler. The replacement came from the same age and mileage of car. Again, this worked for about a week then the engine management started to come on again.

When driving the car, it feels as though the car is going to stall after slowing down to a near stop and then accelerating again. Just at the point of moving off the car doesn’t feel right. It seems to miss slightly then clears and is fine.
We are very disappointed as we had to pay to get the car on to a computer twice - once at £35 and the other with a so called repair and diagnostic check at £85.we also paid £70 for the replacement air/idle control valve and paid to get that fitted.
We fitted a replacement accelerator pedal to see if that cures the odd idling at low revs but this hasn’t cured the problem. Would the problem be a lambda sensor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Clio 1.2 16v stalling idle problems

Unread post by roadstar17 »

I think i am having similar problems with my clio, it usually cuts out when hot, the orange warning light comes on and idles very low and then cuts out. When restarting the light stays on and I have to keep the revs up to stop it from stalling again, after 20-30 secs the light goes out and the car is ok . I have changed the TDC sensor and the Lambdo probe but they have not cured it
have you managed to get your daughters fixed if so please please let me know as I am getting cheesed off with the bloody thing
