Megan front wheel bearings?

Unread post by NiSk »

My daughters '98 Megan 1.6 E has a sound very much like a rumbling wheel bearing coming from the front. According to Haynes BOL the wheel bearings should last the life of the car (???)
Are they difficult to replace? the procedure in the BOL seems very complex compared with most other front drive cars I have replaced bearings on (BX, XM, XAntia, Audi 80, 100, Passat etc etc.)

I had intended to replace both sides, since as usual its very difficult to identify the exact location.

Is this really the case or is it Haynes telling lies again?

If the Megane is like the 19, and I think it is, the procedure is identical to the other cars you mentioned. Release the hub from the CV joint, strut, ball joint and track rod end, take it to the bench and deal with it in the usual way.

So tempting to say "the round things either side at the front" but I know that won't help.

From what I gave generally gleaned, Renault wheel bearings don't always last as well as Haynes might suggest. But then Renault are not alone in this.
