Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Has anyone got an exploded diagram of an anti-sink VSX (Hydractive 2) pressure regulator; specifically how it's actually mounted to the gearbox? The previous owner had changed the main pressure pipe from the pump to the regulator and made a complete cockup of it - no bracket from the end to the gearbox (now sourced), but it's sprung a major leak...

Found the reason why I was having great trouble getting the bolts fitted...there's the remains of both of them in there already :evil:

Have managed to steady the regulator as much as I can using 2 other brackets, but i don't hold out much hope. Sods law I'd just filled it with £60's worth of Diesel before this problem manifested itself :evil:...

How can I tell if my mk1 '93 Xantia already has comfort spheres ? is there a marking to denote this.

If I don't have them are they freely available ? and how does cost compare with standard ?

And finally are these an aftermarket idea or a Citroen option?

Your trim level SX only has the basic 5/6 number of spheres, and since it doesnt have anti-sink that means it has the minimum number of 5.

Comfort spheres and the fancy pants extras were only added to the VSX models.

I have replaced the 2 front spheres over wheels. all was fine until I took our caravan 2000 miles round France car towed and drove great. Now the rear of the car drops when I park and although it comes up to height when engine started the ride is very HARD and bumpy.

Can you tell me what needs doing to the old girl now please

If you Xantia has 6 spheres in total then it's not Hydractive. By trim I assume mez means LX,SX,VSX,Exclusive.

Correct. As its an LX it will of course have the basic number of spheres.

Thanks to a local vandal I had to replace the complete LH mirror on my 98 Xantia Exclusive.

I bought what I thought was the approriate heated/electric mirror from GSF. After painting the cover and stripping down the door I discovered the mirror was different from that fitted. Mine has an extra connector which must be for the dipping feature when...

When I purchased my Xantia SX the drivers side wing mirror glass was cracked so bought a replacement for the local motor shop. Had to pick the old one off with a screwdriver as it was glued in place. The heating element still worked underneath, thankfully!

My suspention spheres need changing and i'd like some other peoples thought.

Are the genuine citroen spheres any better then say the ones of GSF?

On my last 2 Xantia's i've replaced them with GSF. Both times the ride quality seemed to degrade very quickly.

I got a quote of over £1000 for the spheres from Citroen parts (Its an Activa so has 10...

just changed the coolant on my 1997 xantia 2.1td and according to the manuel it should have around 8 litres in there, so i've drained and flushed it but can only seem to get around 5 or 6 litres of fluid in there, are there any bleed points on a 2.1td, i can't see any, not sure if it will have any as the expansion tank is higher up than on a 1.9td...

Sounds as though you have an intermittent connection somewhere. Try running a temporary lead extrernaly to the pump, if that cures it, you can either follow the lead back to try and find the fault or make the temporary lead permanant.

Can anyone tell me if the rear spheres can fail within a couple of days as the xantia i have went from great to hard and bumpy in about 4 days.the car is a 1997 1.8 LXI hatchback.I test drove the car on wednesday and it was fine drove it home on thursday it was fine but by monday it was aweful very hard and uncomfortable

I have a MK1 Xantia which some of the dash bulbs dont work, if i give the top of the facia a thump some come on but thers a couple that still dont work. Ive looked in the haynes manual and it looks like you have to drop the steering column and remove loads of bits, is this correct?

Also one of the fan contol bulbs doesnt work and neither does the...

It happens after long parking (1-2 days).
After engine start and pressure rising (red light-off in 10-30 sec).
When turning steering wheel i hear nasty nose like drilling with hebetate drill.
After 2-5 minutes of engine running it disappear.

Anyone know what the purpose of the two DIAPHRAGMES (like two UFOs) that sit at both ends of the Air Distributor box & intake manifold on 2.0 16v 155bhp XU10J4 unit (1994)?

Update…

ACAV electro-valve has been in for a week now and all is well. OK, better than well. Lots of power in lower and middle range. Ignition ping has gone under slight load in 4th or 5th gear (up a hill say) I tried hard to get it to ping, but alas… :wink: Engine management light no longer comes on when on motorway doing 55 – 70 mph. All in all...

Hi to all,

Simple question: the head of the screw that secures the rear break discs looks quite strange to me? The screw also acts like a guide for the wheel.
What kind of instrument should I unscrew it with?

Hi guys

When i start my m reg 95 19 td xantia from cold in the morning there,s always a cloud of smoke accompaned by lumpy running which clears then everything ok i always wait for the preheat light to go out before i start which always takes about 2 turns of the key to start whats going on is this normal or do i have couse for concern.

Well what i used was a magnet which is part of a little socket set i have with a flexi drive in it, it came in handy for putting the 8 mm nut on top of the no 4 glowplug also i like every body else has i kept dropping the little nut until i employed the magnet but getting no 4 in and out was a pain and took me a while but i succeded...

I drove my wifes car today, not a common occurance, but I noticed the the maximum boost doesnt come on until about 2,500 rpm and then it flies but at 2,000 rpm its gutless, is this normal?

My XM starts to pull strongly from about 1,800 rpm.

My 94 1.8i 8v xantias has failed its MOT on the emmissions being too high also the engine check light comes on (very top right corner of the warning light cluster) sometimes, Ive replaced the lambda probe which didnt help, although the car itself runs perfectly even though its done 130000miles. How does one remove the wooden fascia trim without damaging it? Is is clipped on, stuck on or what?

I need to inspect the little fan and temperature sensor mounted behind the trim.

The sensor can be removed by unclipping the plastic holder from the right, to the left of the clock.
In case of difficulty, the clock and radio can be removed for access.

Hi there , I have just burst a pipe on my xantia 1.9td 1996 estate, its the third one in from the nearside ( the front to back pipes) its burst under the diesel tank . now for the questions, can anyone tell me where the ends go , how hard are they to change , is it worth while buying a flaring tool compared to buying the pipes from a main dealer....

im not sure as i just use it in the form it comes up in,althogh you can increase and decrease the magnification on the exploded diagram box,besides that price seems a bit excessive for just one pipe

Does anyone know what fuel pumps were fitted to these at all as im wondering if a bosch was fitted to them as ive been offered a cheap one and would want to run it on veg :)

And you will get loads & loads of answers.

All you need to know, all you want to know is to be found on the web - on both Lucas & Bosch pumps running veggie.

Be prepared to spend most of the night surfing/reading though. Many good heads has written tons of wise words on the subject.

Does anyone else have problems getting their Xantia Exclusive Alloys (the ones without a centre hole) balanced properly? Every time I have a new tyre I have to return to the fitters at least twice to rebalance - don't think he likes me anymore!!
The wheels are 6J x 15. Could standard Xantia steel wheels be fitted instead but with the 205 60 R15...

Hi Folks,

I have been looking for a thread, I am sure I have seen on this site, that gave details on how to by pass the electronic gismo that requires a code to activate.

The tread indicated something like carefully digging out the epoxy filling to expose the wires, and then connecting some together.

Does any one know this trick or can direct...

You can not use a second hand pump with the immobiliser dinky fitted - UNLESS you have the code that was used on the car it came from.

Only other option is to remove and scrap the immobiliser dinky - and then connect directly to the solonoid.

Its very logic : if you had any option of bypassing or tweaking the immobiliser - then any car thief in...

I have a passenger side electric set from an XM which I would like to wire up. It has three wires going into it, two thick ones (which I presume are +12v and 0v) and a thin green one.

What does the thin green one do, and what voltage should it be set at?

How much noise do HDi's make when coming onto boost? Mine seems to be quite noisy and I think I should be checking the hoses. Does the 110 make more noise than the 90? Also how much more powerful do you think a HDi 110 will/should feel compared to a 1.9 TD?

yes, i agree, check for a leaks in the exhaust, i had a crack just before my cat before and the turbo's noise was louder, it was getting to the point of annoying, more likely the closer to the engine the hole/crack in the exhaust is the louder the turbo gets, it is louder because of the lack of back pressure on it, so it spins on any pressure.

Just had a major amount of work done on the trusty C5, new cambelt waterpump, crank pulley, and clutch and flywheel change. OUCH-that hurt the wallet :shock:
The engine is a 110Hdi diesel by the way. The day after collecting the car, I was driving to work when it showed 'Antipollution Fault', and went into limp home mode. I duly limped home,...

Oh well. I had booked the car into the garage for later this week. Got in it to drive home last Friday afternoon and it ran perfectly, no warning messages, no lack of performance or anything.

And no, it's not a dodgy ignition switch ;)

Blower started working intermittently, then it just got less and less likely that it would run at all.

Car is a '96 2.0l 16v petrol, with air-con. After ripping the steering column to bits to check the ignition switch, I then went to pull the blower itself.

just puchased a 2.1td xantia estate today and it's smoking a lot under accelaration and feels flat (black smoke) strange thing is i've just driven it back 200miles and with a about 20miles to go it stopped smoking and started pulling like a train and felt really good, but the last few miles it's gone flat and smoking again any ideas please :)

As the over-fuelling is intermittent it could be gunked up intercooler pressure signal pipe to the fuel enricher device.

The 2.1 has the Lucas 'fly by wire' EPIC pump fitted. I can't find any sort of pressure sensor on mine. The drawing shows one but I can't find it. If anyone knows where it is I would like to know please.

Our trusty Xantia, the 1.8 16v has just passed its MOT.

We bought it with 41k on it & has now done 92k, being used everyday & as a load lugger.

Only thing it needed was 1 tyre & a drop link, not bad for a 10 year old motor. 8)

After replacing rear trailing arms and fitting new bearings I am left unable to get the gaiters ('cylinder boot') to go over the end of the hydraulic suspension cylinder at the cup (fulcrum) end.

I have now damaged one which is split annually right at the end, but the other one I have managed to get on part way and secure with a tree tie.

the two pipes do just plug into the gaitor by about an inch,one is a vent the other is a susp unit seepage return,you will find one point in the gaitor is slightly larger that the other as the pipes are a diferant diamiter from each other,and they only go back into the gaitor up to the swadge in the pipes
