CD Changer not detected on 4030 stereo

Unread post by red_dwarfers »

I've been fitting a Blaupunkt CDC-A03 CD changer to my Xantia this weekend to go along with the 4030 head unit thats in there now. I've fitted the 8 pin miniDIN loom from the boot to the head unit and wired it up using pinouts from the forum and the now deceased steve.jellybaby.net site which I found in PDF form and the following nuggets of info dug out from the forum library :

PDF -
RC and CD Changer C
pin 1 - CDC R
2 - CDC L
3 - CDC ground
4 - U5/REF
5 - A2
6 - A1
7 - RC BEL
8 - RC ground

The cable pinouts should be something like this:
Power Pins A
Pin 1 - N/A
Pin 2 - N/A
Pin 3 - N/A
Pin 4 - 12V
Pin 5 - Automatic aerial
Pin 6 - Illumination
Pin 7 - Ignition
Pin 8 – Ground

The only thing I have not followed is on the PDF link with regards to the 12v ignition switched input which is now connected to the 'official' switched power.

</background information>

After checking the wiring, the head unit fires up as normal and the CD changer does it's seeking for CDs all the way up and back down, it ejects the CD cassette as normal and detects a CD when put in and spins it up for a bit.
The head unit however is being ignorant and not detecting the CD changer, after pressing the MODE button, it goes to find a tape in the deck (which incidentally is broken as it makes an unhealthy noise), press again and it will go to the AUX port if I have a plug in there, press again and it will go back to radio.

I have checked using an Ohm meter that all the wires connect from the boot end, right up until the newly modified ISO plug and all it well.

Any ideas?

Im presuming the head unit detects the CDC by recieving packets from it via the data line on the 'power connector'

The CD changer Citroën used on a S1 Xantia was a CDC-A05 so I wonder whether you have the wrong changer.

I can confirm that the original was CDC-A05, but I have changed the CD changer a couple of times due to hardware failures, and at least one of the replacements was a different model number from a mid-90s BMW. I think any Blaupunkt changer from that era should work (but reportedly, some newer Blaupunkt changers will not).

I think I posted the adapter lead connections here a few years ago.
