Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Just thought I'd let you veggies know that our local cash and carry (bookers) which is a national chain have a special offer on veg oil at the oment only trouble is it is in one litre bottles but at £8.30 for 15 bottles = 55 pence per litre, I bought 150 litres!

if you have a bookers local could be worth a look.

You are correct, i sold it because I thought the engine had seen better days... comparing the fuel consumption to the acceleration is was probably quite a bad example of the 2.0ct engine. Shame, the car was pretty cool.

yep try to do as much as possible ,changed the belt on the xantia not so long back just got more plastic covers on the c5 to remove now thats the time consuming bit .Mot next month so want it in the garage so i can have a look round to see if theres anything major wrong apart from 2 new tyres at the back,just have to get me dads car out of there...

Changing the filter element is not difficult, but you should always clean out the bowl carefully before refitting. Check for metal slivers in bottom. This is an indication of a waering fuel lift pump.
Worth checking your old filter housing if you change the whole thing.

Chaps, I could do with a couple of pointers here :) sorry for the ramble.

2 problems,

Seat heaters dont work
Wires in exclusive seats dont match standard Xantia wires..

Ok, as some know I am trying to fit Series 2 exclusive seats in a normal LX series 2 car.

The LX has 3 plugs,
#1 - 2 thin wires - orange and green, terminating in a green...

Spare wires going into/out of Passenger Seat are
Yellow - M8310
and
Orange - 8350
Both about meduim thickness wires (maybe 1mm)

I was wondering, has anyone here ever repiped the rear of a Xantia ('95 S1 non hydractive)?
If so, is there much involved? Does the subframe have to come down, given that there are no hydractive spheres to worry about?

i allways drop the sub frame on all the BXs i have done for my customers, this way you can make sure they go exactly were they are ment to,

also i have seen so many BXs were people have just thrown the pipes up there which have rubbed through against something with in a couple of weeks

i havent done a XANT yet but cant see any problems doing...

Now, my ZX has a nuisance, the idle speed is a little high (1000-1200 rpm). It stays there for a while and then goes down to normal. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't and that's the point. I tried lowering it with the throttle stop screw but it doesn't.

Just bought an S plate Xant 1.9TD LX, with 116000 on the clock, but it has a couple of annoying faults I would like some assistance to sort out.

I'm afraid I cant help with the center console lights or the cigarette lighter issue as I don't have a Xantia but I'm sure someone else will be able to advise.

You can find instruction of how to program your plip at this link...I've never used them so I don't know if they are correct or not but they may be worth a go.

Ok what could be causing this? I ran out of diesel this morning and now the EM light is on (after putting some in and giving all the crap a blast through). Is there anyway to read the codes without going to Citroen or having a code reader? Is the light likely to go out after a few more miles?

A remap is better because the ECU map that's used can be changed in several ways not just simply putting more fuel in that a basic tuning box will. Depending on the car it can alter the ignition/injection timing/duration and boost levels. Top of the tree has to be a 'personalised' remap that's done on a rolling road.

Further to my previous post about the rev counter not working in my 1.9td zx, I checked the sensor and I find no reason for it not to work down there.

I then tried to take the instrument panel out but I cannot for the life of me detach the speedo cable from the back of that far side of the instrument panel. I can only reach my hand in from...

Ignore the Haynes advice it's pants - on our car it was just solid wires in there. The easy way to get the binnacle out is to remove the radio, centre vents and surround panel (10-20 mins) - you can change the heater bulbs while you are there too (but again ignore Haynes and carefully unclip and pull off the front panel, complete with the knobs,...

Does anyone know for sure if the Peugeot 405 clip is metal and fits the Xantia? I have seen this suggested in other threads.
Also Europarts are rumored to sell a metal one, but can't find any details.

Have just replaced mine and don't want to do it again unless its the final time.
BTW taking the seat out, I found the bolts were a tight fit in the...

Was looking for a cheap runabout so bought the ZX couple weeks ago.
Paid £380 for it then at the time seemed like a bargain. it had the following:
Complete New Exhaust
New Battery
New Radiator & Hoses
New Brakes all round
Whatt appears to be many new engine Parts Brake Servo etc.
So in hindsight I probably got a Bargain.

As you've found the later ZXs have an electronic speedo. Makes bulb replacement much easier!

The main 2 things I would consider are the state of the rear axle, and the cooling system health - these engines don't like old coolant or airlocks.

Otherwise- -better the devil you know, as others have written. There can't be many other cars as cheap to...

Hi, I have just recently joined the forum so hello to everyone :D

Mrs uncle buck has recently got a Xsara II 1.4 LX 2001...I'm more of a Diesel man myself & it’s a good few years since I last owned a Petrol car.

I noticed as soon as I drove it that it had a Heater Matrix smell ... all I can describe the smell as is a hot smell...I have smelt...

Obviously if the matrix has been leaking coolant there will be some in the heater box so it could take quite a while for the smell to go away completely...if it ever does.

My 2.1TD has (had) a leaky matrix and when I first got it, it certainly whiffed a bit and had dampened the passenger footwell. I'll be swapping the matrix as soon as the...

okay chaps thinking caps on my xantia has a problem with a draining battery it will go for months no problem but then it will be flat with no warning the only thing that is the same is that it is always wet so waters getting into something but does anyone know where?

just a quick update i have had to trade my Xantia in and have got the wife a Picasso HDI because she needs a reliable car and i would never know if i had fixed the battery problem until it let her down again.

This afternoon i noticed a hissing noise from behind my dashboard. It is hard to tell if i have lost performance, as the atmospheric pressure is so low at the moment (978 MB) that its dropped anyway, i have not had my heater on hot today and i noticed the hissing noise seemed less? Is the heater actuated by vacuum pipes?

OK, i know this has never been thought of before but assuming the door seals and the like are good, whats the deepest water a xantia could wade thru at either Normal , Intermediary , or Maximum ride hieght??

Also thinking if i removed the airbox, sealed it up and twisted it thru 180' so the intake was from the top and it could pull air down thru...

Well the hilly places like that aren't too often mind :D

The water ready airfilter housing is good but still needs work. really i do need a spare scrapped bonnet i can use for such occassions or to make up ready for a scoop kit when money allows :)

But with the Aircon, Intercool, and Water Rad in front of it hardly any water has touched it so...

I can move my xantia up to the top and down to the bottom no problem. When I move from the low setting to normal the rear does not come up I have to move the lever to high and quickly back to normal to get to rise. Is this a Height Corrector Linkage problem?

Yes - most likely - loads of info on them on here. They seize up and break the plastic link.

Remember to support the car so there is sufficient room for you should it drop on the suspension. These cars can KILL.

I just acquired a set of original Alloys for my 1999 SX HDI - they are identical to the ones on my 2000 Exclusive. However... The bolts will only turn a couple of revolutions before tightening?? On the Exclusive they turn a good 7 or 8 revs before tightening.

The bolts are identical in length and diameter - thread etc... They have a tapered seat...

The length of protruding bolt from the head's square shoulder to it's end is
40mm. There's a shank/shoulder at the head so the threaded section off
the end is effectively 25mm and there's a loose but captive washer 3mm
thick and 30mm diameter. That'd equate to a rough area the head is
recessed into on an alloy.

Hi
Don't have a Handbook or Manual for my 1995 1.9D Estate
have a warning light on the Dashboard right hand side Amber in colour Looks a bit like a letter F usually goes out couple of seconds after start up.
but recently been staying on a bit longer flashes for about 30 secs then goes out. ?
The other thing The Sunroof again refuses now to tilt up...

I will try to get the Allen Key in to the Sunroof see if I can get it to slide back and forward,
The rheostat on the lights works but only have a few bulbs lit so may have to get behind the dash eventually.

Well I've been running the ZX for just over a week now and the only thing I've had to do is lubricate the gear stick linkage under the car. Anyhow I checked the brakes while she was on the axle stands. The disc's seem brand new and the pads match aswell. The exhaust is a complete new one and ther's absolutley no rot or rust underneath on the body....

They dont reallt rust that bad, bit like the 205's, they have the rust traps designed out of them. The one place they do go (and the place that the MOT man will see) is the front of the chassis rails between tham and the sills before the subframe. Hi there,

I need to buy a new hub assembly (as i dont have a press to do the wheel bearing) for my Citroen berlingo van:

Year 2002, 52 Plate 1.9 Diesel

Does anyone know the size i need - im sure i was given an optn by the breaker of 16 or 18 :?

hi all, well finally I picked up my green S2 bonnet/bumper from Leeds on Sat, some journey from Kent and back again!

Car now looks exactly as it's supposed to, at last...

Also picked up Exclusive alloys and Black Leather (estate) interior. Rear seat backs bolt down differently to the hatch models, but I am going to remove my rear carpet and see...

Could be the old case of the veg 'cleaning' out the tank. you get lots of crap coming up the lines and basically giving the pump a much harder time to draw the fuel through. How can this be done? I have a X plate SX HDi atm and wish to install the factory cruise control set up.

What trim did cruise control come with? VSX, Exclusive or both?

Did that trim come with a HDi engine?

Bascially I want the set up to be as close to factory as possible so no aftermarket kits. Want to take it of a scrap Xantia.

I have had my xantia for nearly two years - the only part of the suspension I have replaced is the front spheres. How can you tell if everything is in good working order? Car rises quickly from cold, the rear not quite as high as the front (the tops of the rear wheels are slightly obscured by the body). Is this normal?

Ok Was going to do my handbrake cable and when I noticed that my Exhaust system is on its last legs lots of rot and small holes on the rear box and more on the front pipe and Cat.

Now it’s a 1999 HDI and I wasn’t sure if they are still required to have a CAT?

i got a stainless steel exhaust on mine and i had the option of leaving the cat on or putting a straight through pipe if you go down the straight pipe the turbo will spin up slightly faster.

Hi Team,

Looking for advice re the following problem:

My Xantia TD mk2 is pulling to the right when you accelerate and vibrating gear stick between 3rd and 4th are they related and what is the cause. :?

I wa thinking :wink: driveshft and/or engine mountings. :wink:

My car is in for an MOT today. Just been told that the wheel cylinders are leaking. I have no idea what a wheel cylinder is. What is it?
They are both leaking at the rear, and at the moment I am awaiting a phone call about ocsts of repair.
Do they mean Spheres? Or brake thingys?

Thanks for all your help! It works again! All that was needed was a bit of WD40 and elbow grease to work the height corrector linkage back into a happy state. The tips gave us an idea as to where to look, so thanks a lot!

The heater on my mk2 xantia has started working intermitantly in the last fortnight.

Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it decides to come on after about 5 minutes by which time the car is steamed up and i can't see anything and other times it doesn't work and then decides to come on after about 5 minutes. It doesn't seem to matter what I do with...

2001 110 Xantia estate, 91k miles. Driving perfectly when last driven on Saturday, came to start it this morning and it sort of 'coughed', almost as though trying to fire backwards. then, cranked over without starting for a while, and on second attempt, started but with a lot of unburnt fuel smoke and bad misfire on trying to rev up to move off....

Could anyone help please? '98 TDSX Rear wiper and indicators failed whilst sitting in traffic in light rain yesterday. I identified fuse 28 as being blown and tried a replacement and a which blew .. I tried a higher rating , which blew as well.
Any ideas where I should look please?

92hp has 16 valves, is probably less reliable.
slightly less offical fuel economy, think its 60mpg isntead of 65.

Thanks to xantia_v6, I have heat to footwell and screen, or as much heat as a 19Td will ever make. :D . I meant to stick a small plastic disc onto a bit of sponge and then stick that under the white cog, to stop it dropping down again, but will do that if it happens again.

Hi All
Posted before about a problem with the ignition on my car, was the ignition switch then, trouble is problems back.
Symptoms
Turn on ignition > battery light on but no other lights, indicators horn wipers work and the engine will turn over but wont start.
Changed the switch worked for a few days then stopped.
I stripped the old switch down...

Hi after checking the forum and doing some tests it seem the rear right side ABS sensor on ma Mk2 Xantia is duff.

Is there any recomendations on the best place to buy as most I've seen are about the £50 mark
