xantia alarm problems

Unread post by casperdog2 »

I have a 97 xantia 1900td and I have alarm problems for a long time ie:- It wont work using the plip, I can lock the doors ok and when I keep the key turned for a few seconds the deadlocks work which I take means that the door locking control unit is ok, I have checked and cleaned the anti-theft control unit, making sure that it is dry and the frount of the car is not flooded out, I am now moving to the dash and the frount of the car also I have noticed that the flashing alarm light on the dash has a faint little glow and the fuse is out. If you put the fuse in the alarm sounds and the dash light flashes and it doesnot matter what you do only taking the fuse out will stop it, I am next going to get a good look strip and clean the alarm key switch at the frout of the car, has anybody got a wiring dia for this switch or had one to bits, I will get the alarm working even if the car falls to bits I am a great believer that if its on the car it has to work,
when in doubt get a bigger hammer

If the plip doesnt work it's possible the batteries in the keyfob are flat? Also, a stab in the dark here, but if you have an infrared keyfob plipper you need to point the glass dome on the keyfob at the rear view mirror (or at least that's where it is on a 306).

Another thing, to deactivate the alarm what you should try is putting the fuse so the alarm activates, then quickly put the key in the ignition and turn it (not certain to which point however, I will have to consult my owners manual!) and press the alarm cancel button which is to the right of the steering wheel on my mk2 Xantia. it's like )) with an X through it, something along those lines anyway. I'll see if I can find my manual and update this if needs be. Anyway - if that works the alarm should (in theory) shut up and not go off again, as it only arms when you use the keyfob plipper thing.

Just looked through my owners manual (twice!) to find where I read about deactivating the alarm without the working keyfob and I can't, so I've got no idea where I read it! Hope what I've said partially helps though?

Try this:

Disconnect your battery... then Reconnet your battery after 5 seconds or so, then with your key put the key in the ignition and at the same time on the DASH, there should be a button with a Siren with a cross through it on the there, press it at the same time as switching on your ignition, this should then cancel your alarm and reset the system..

ALSO if you PLIP does work, when you reconnect your battery simply use your PLIP to lock and unlock the car.. this also resets the alarm system..

Paul

PS: Dont get the Isolation switch for rear electric windows (IF Fitted) mixed up with the Siren Cancel button.

To check if your (IR) plip is working:
1. Does the little red led on the side flash when you pres the button? If not, flat batteries (CR2025 3V Lithium button cells, 2 required).
2. If the red LED flashes, but it's still not working, check the main IR LED by looking at it via a digital camera - you should see it light (digital cameras can 'see' IR). If not, the IR LED may have a broken leg - repair instructions at http://www.attfield.dircon.co.uk/Plipper%20Repair.pdf

I think you mean if not the plip may have a broken IR sender? If not, apologies!

Yes you're absolutely right! Had a slight senior moment. I've now edited my previous post so it now reads as intended.
