Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi Folks,

It's that time again for my Xantia 2.1 SX. Last year she did pass but there was a recommendation which hopefully somebody can translate for me. What does this recommendation mean and I quote Front both rear bushes bonded suspension deteriorated but can function as intended (2.4.F.3) Any assistance would be gratefullyappreciated.

Can anyone tell when does the glow plug timer come on on my Xantia HDI 90 please. My old 1.9td had glowplugs that light up on ignition turn on and a warnig light on the dashboard. My HDI doesnt seem to do this or is it a case of the light has blown on the dash? Or does the glow plugs do their bit without a warning light and come on when...

The glowplug warning light will only flash on for a second or so if the temperature is around freezing. In warm weather it wont come on at all. HDis can manage without glowplugs altogether until the temperature drops to below zero.

Hi

I drove my car 10 miles to the next town and realised that the heater was on cold so slid the lever over to Hot and put blower on. The car filled with either smoke of steam not sure which.

I pulled over and checked under bonnet rad n water level fine oil fine no apparent leaks when I turned lever back to cold it stopped and has not done it...

I replaced the radiator the other day, the idle is now at 1500rpm opposed to about 800 i twas before

Only difference was a new radiator, and the intercooler pipes removed. I believe they have been tightened up a bit better this time - could the increase in pressure be putting the idle out?

where's it adjusted?

I also had the glowplugs down the...

My Xantia 1.9TD decided to go high idle on me today, in the middle of a journey. It turned out the lock-nut on the throttle-stop had worked loose, and the throttle stop had screwed itself in. Thought it was quite bizzarre, but at least it was an easy fix.

I have a Xsara 2002 HDI. The window opens fine on the button. When I press the button to send it back up again, it only goes up around an inch, almost as though it's sensing something in the way.

Anyone got any ideas?

If it doesn't automatically go back down to the bottom then it might not be sensing something in the way and might have just lost it's marbles. (technical term )

There is a procedure for resetting the window position, but I forget the exact details. Try disconnecting the battery for a while, then send the window fully...

I have a 2002 Xsara HDI. When I unlock the driver's door it's ok & unlocks all the doors fine. When I then open the driver's door it locks itself. Sometimes it locks, unlocks, locks, unlocks, etc, about 10 times! I find myself locked in the car & can't manually unlock it from the inside, so I have to open the window & unlock it with the key!

I just took to gearbox out thinking I was going to replace it for a S/H box. Then I found that someone in our town fixed gearboxes. A selctor fork was £59. Thus I got him to fix the box.

He DID say that perhaps it would have been possible to fix this without taking the gearbox out. However, I do not know enough to say one way or the other.

Having recently got some LHM Plus from a local motor factors, and costing nearly £5. Does anyone know of a cheaper (possibly mail order supplier?)

Just found a site that charges £1.92 + VAT (Price inc VAT £2.25)

This query relates to a 1999 Citroen Xantia, 1.9TD Automatic with AC and 144K on the clock.
Yesterday the Auxiliary belt was shred into cheese strings by the crank pulley because of the bolt that holds the tension roller broke up inside the cast iron housing. There were also signs of failing bearing on the tension roller, so decided to replace it...

The crack does go up to the point where the pipe has shaped bend, so cutting is not an option. there is a short stiffer plastic from the bend onwards.

I have been looking on Ebay for a Haynes manual for my 1997 ZX 1.9D. I have found a free download site for the petrol engines but not diesel. Does anyone know of one for the later diesels?

I'm about to change the oil and filters etc in my xantia. I've got a 1.9D, now on 114k. What oil is best to use with this engine? I don't mind paying for a half decent oil, but nothing extortionate.

Haynes states you should use a Multigrade oil SAE 10W40 or 15W50 with an ACEA spec of B3.96, I have my cars original handbook so I will look in the garage and check what it says in there. Shell say on thier site use a 10W40 or 15W40 with specific specs B2/B3/PD2/CD/CE (for the 1.9TD). You pays your money and you make your choice, but I think it...

On some citroens I have worked on it has been necessary to disconnect the speedo at the gearbox once the cable has been removed from the speedo because it is far to short to push back into place with the width of a hand in the way. does anybody know if this is the case with an xantia /xantia MK 2 please?

Only early Xantia's from 1993 to about 1995 used a conventional speedo cable. From 1995 onwards the speedo is electronic.

I believe the changeover occurred at the same time the chevrons went from the bonnet to the grill (also in 1995) but don't quote me on that. :wink:

All MK2's will definitely have an electronic speedo.

i've a xantia 2.0 hdi doin cambelt change ,i put ext/bar and socket on crank pulley bolt wife on brake pedal and 1st gear pulled and it cracked so i thought but no, now i can turn engine over easy in 1st and brake on and i know this isn't right can anyone help with suggestions on what has given way i think centre boss has broken away please...

i always loosen hub nuts with wheels on the ground, hand brake hard on and a block of wood under the front of the wheel on the N/S and rear of wheel on the O/S, then there is no need to have an other body with foot on the brake

Can anybody help me get my radio back on ? I have what I think is the code --3959--yet if I follow the book instructions I have to use the numbers on the console and they are only 1-6, so how do I put the 9 in ? or do they mean the start number panel ?

If the previous owner has changed the code the stereo can be reset but it has to be removed and sent away, it will come back with a new code and a sticker on the side with a citroen code to order a new code if that code is lost. confused? i was.

£15 for the inital new code reprogramming cost around£50 at amain dealership.

Hi All,
My 'new' Xantia 2.0 HDI (90) engine has a water leak!!!
The water seems to be running down the front of the engine, although it is night time and can see proper till tomorrow. I wondered if it could be something as simple as the thermostat not sealed or something, any other ideas???? Matrix is ok too

Ok, Job done. Stripped the common rail off the car, to get to the core plug. Screwed a self tapping screw into the hole, prized the core plug out, wiped it clean then tapped in a new one. Took about 1 hour to do the job. No leaks at the moment (thank goodness)

i belive XANTs dont have any valve in the matrix circuit as the heat is just redirected out of the car when hot is switched off, so there is nout to stop the coolant flowing right through the system except the thermostate when shut

We use a Picasso for transporting the kids around, it is a '03 model.
In the rear footwell there are two storage areas, one on each side of the car. ( In the floor )
The other day our son lifted the flap on on of these to put some toys in, and discovered there was about an inch of water in the bottom of the compartment.

While browsing in Wilkinsons I noticed they sell a cetane improver for under £5. So now I'm wondering, how do you judge the efficiency of these things? Even the info on the labelling of all these additives only claim they can help clean... or can help improve... nothing more concrete than that. I would imagine SVO would burn better with cetane...

Has anyone ever seen or heard of the suspension from a citroen being fitted to another car on a one off basis? Not like rolls royce and stuff.

I was told around 2002 that BX 16V spheres were no longer available.
The story at the time was that it was common now to supply the basic BX GTi/TZi or Tri as being compatible.
There is a guy over here who has a car that has had some kind of dodgy sphere fitted, suspected to be possibly hydractive spheres and one has just blown so he was trying...

GSF still list them for the BX 16 valve but these'll be Amtex ones and could be quite ederly now...

I looked in pr.net and Citroen still do them..

Hi guys,

Hoping someone might be able to advise about this one. I have a 1.9TD Volcane ZX.

I have had the dash out to change the bulbs, and now the speedo is juddering, and appears to be sticking ie when you stop the car, it still shows at 10mph for a while, and it is slow to react to the speed increase when you press the accelerator, and kind...

OK I'm ready to change the Cambelt on the Hdi.

Having changed the belt on the 1.9td several times, is there any difference with the tooling required and the locating of the crank and cam TDC with pegs etc.

Is the bolt size on the crank of the same size as the 1.9td or do I have to get a new socket.??

Actually, it will be MK1 if it's got the LED on it - MK2 LED is elswhere.

So, remove the radio and mounting plate (open and remove the ashtray - first challenge, it sort of works backwards! - remove the two screws holding the radio surround in, and remove the surround, remove the two screws and pull the radio out, remove the 4 screws...

Hi, does anyone know if the C5 suspension pump uses some kind of belt anywhere?
After a weekend of no use, my C5 will make a noise a bit like a belt slipping, when the rear suspension is corrected. It only happens at about 25 meters from where I park, as I stop to open a gate. Its only noisy when the rear is going up.

The ride height on my Xantia 2.1TD at normal looks ridiculously high compared to other cars around. The rear does not look to bad but the front is way too high.
According to the Haynes manual, it's easy to check the road height of the car but says that you need to take the car to a dealer for adjustment.
Are there any instructions on how to check...

The front height is more difficult to adjust, because the access is limited - the height corrector is back behind the motor near the middle lower suspension chassis.

This is a job that can only really be done over a pit or on a hoist - as long as you have that, its relatively easy - same as adjusting the rear height.

After having various problems with my ABS light (new sensor for MOT) the light is intermittently illuminating again - even when I am stationary. If I switch off and start moving again the light extinguishes. Sometimes the STOP light will illuminate for a second or so. Do I have an ABS problem or an instrument problem?

Dont let that scare you off.
There are quite a few genuine parts which are surprisingly cheap. Keep an eye on Citroen service net, as next time you need a sparepart - even a silly plastic retainer - a brand new genuine part may not be that expensive as first thought to be.
But admittently, most wearparts such as brakeparts are in general far more...

ps ive gotten quite a few screens out b4 without breaking them, cut them ou with wire, but i have broken a screen simply by carrying it - 2 people, one at each end, if you don't work in close unison and apply the slightest torsion to it it cracked, it was en early 80s ford so maybe they don't rely...

Well it's about time my Xantia 2.0 VSX Estate was back on the road.

Last time it was used, it had developed an LHM leak from somewhere near the N/S rear suspension.
Is there anything in this area that is a common fault that I could look for and investigate? It was just a steady drip onto the ground and at the time I just couldn't see where it was...

I have oil in my intercooler pipes.... i cant remember if this is normal (oil catch tank needed) of it its a problem with a worn turbo

just noticed it when i did the glow plugs at the weekend

Its not reall ybad, could have accumilated over the years but its got stuff in there.

any help?

I heard it when queuing in traffic, with a wall to my right so the noise was deflected back toward me. It was rare and intermittent and hard to reproduce but sometimes a blip on the throttle would induce it as the revs dropped to idle.

Well I got a bad news update on this now, over a month later. The belt has been shredded along one ridge. The length of stripped belt has lodged itself in all sorts of weird and wonderful places around the compressor pulley. The engine still runs, I took a detour to the shop to buy a new belt (£15!!!) and then it got me home ok, thankfully.

I have had some flat spots on the steering of late and got a chance to check thing today only to find the NSF track rod end has lots of free play and a broken rubber seal.

The stange thing is both track rod ends where replaced about 12mths ago by myself and the cars only done about 12000 miles since then.

Is this nornal or was it maybe just a...

Hi folks. Just looking at an X reg Xantia. Car seems great apart from a central locking issue. The car unlocks using the button on the remote but it wont lock with the button. It works fine if you ise the key in the lock.

Anyone come across this before? Dont suppose it''s an easy fix?
Seller seems to think its a symptom of a low keyfob battery...
