Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Guys is there a DIY sphere changing guide anywhere? A Dummy's style guide is what i need please... :P

Also if the car is lowered to the ground, how do you change the rears...that you then cant get too....is it a case of wheel ramps and then lower the suspension....

you dont need to lower the suspention whilst replaceing the A/C sphere, you just loosen the bleed screw, and have a tray under to collect the citro blood (LHM)

Is there any difference between the cylinder heads of a 1.9D and 1.9TD? Considering the costs I'm facing (appx£100 if mine is good, more if needing repair) there's a brand new head on ebay complete with cam and valves with a starting bid of £60.

Bit late I know but I took a head from a Pug 405 1900 TD and fitted it to a BX 1900 NA.
All I had to do was block off the oil hole to the vacuum pump.

I'm having extreme difficulty locating a local engineering workshop to pressure test my cylinder head (and skim if ok).

Several local engineers recommend a place in Southampton but I've just come off the phone to them and they're quoted sky high prices - £53.94+vat for PT and £35.29+vat for skim. :shock:

I have been without a fuel gauge for some time now, i have disconnected the connection under the floor, and tested with a suitable device for a positive to earth as this should send the gauge to full, but the connection has not any life at all,

what could be the next thing to do,

Got the AX home, seems in very good condition, paintwork and interior very clean. Lady Stempy drove it home and I followed in the Xantia. It looked slightly lop sided to me, like it had a flat offside sphere :lol: should I be worried or are they all like that. Couldn't see any springs that might have collapsed, seems to have some kind of torsion...

Cheers Gregg. I've actually just nabbed one from fleabay for a fiver, so when it turns up I'll get stuck in. Start off with a full service and take things from there I think. Brilliant little car though and will be great for local trips instead of the gas guzzling Xantia. I don't think the fuel gauge has moved in 100 miles :lol:

Having done 65ooo the diesel fuel additive requires topping up. Have bought a litre, £28, and I see it goes in the tank under the offside rear seat squab. Is there a special procedure for topping it up?? The top seems to be secured with a large round collar, sim :roll: ilar to the fuel filter. Any help please.

Rear will not go up when high setting is enacted. Front goes up and down properly. Also, rear has stiffened up, i.e. harsh effect going over bumps.

I replaced rear spheres 4 years ago with CX spheres.

Car is standard suspension (not VSX). I have replaced LHM 1 year ago.

Some help from Northern hemisphere would be appreciated.

Interior light and keys in ignition beep coming on randomly, sometimes, ocassionaly, when it suits itself when the door is open....drivers door btw.

Anybody know how the timer relay (maybe that's not the right term - I googled it, but didn't find anything useful) works for the rear wiper? The estate really needs the wiper running when driving in the wet but the factory set interval (about 3s) is far too short and it's scraping a dry-ish screen after the first wipe. Could do with about 10s. Is...

Your estate must be a different shape to my DTR Turbo as I find I hardly ever need to use the rear wiper and I generally push it on and off rapidly which causes it to sweep once and stop.

Be forward looking and just forget it - after all people (including me) were driving around for years in estates without any rear wipers at all.

As the title says, the headlights on my Xantia 2.0i CT VSX Estate come on after ignition is turned off. Is related to an alarm problem. I posted on here with alarm problems before but this wasn't the problem then. Also the alarm doesn't make any sound as before.
I do not have a handbook to check up on this either...

I had a 1 litre AX, and it was definitely fun to drive. I only had three complaints: being squished inside it as it's very small, my steel-toecap work boots being large enough to press two pedals at once at the worst of times, and the fact the small engine meant I lost speed massively on inclines and couldn't get upto speed.

My rear driver's side door is locked, and won't open.
It failed to open on several occasions over the last few weeks, but a few turns of the central locking got it open. Now it's packed in.

I've taken the door card off, and the rods from the handle and central locking solonoid are working fine.

if you havent had the exhaust done yet have it de/catted, i susppect you will be able to by a factory made straight through section like you can for the XANTIA TD,

Well i got the front drivers side bearing replaced as i got sick of the drone and low and behold the noise has only got a tiny bit quieter.
Now i can only assume 1 of 2 things.

Either the bearing wasnt replaced and possibly just injected with some grease.
Or the bearing wasnt causing most of the noise and there is something else on the drive...

Ill have to look tonight when i get a chance and see what it looks like on the car and compare i guess as i think while the bearing is being done if i get the cheap shaft i my as well get it sifted on :)

hi

for those of you who are familiar with both the 1.9td engine and the 2.1 td, how similar are the engine mounting positions??
Will the 2.1 go in the place of a 1.9td or are the mounts in different places.

also, will a zx td gearbox fit onto a 2.1td engine??

i understand the 2.1 has a hydraulic clutch release.

any comments greatfully recieved.

My wife has a 07 reg Citroen C2 1.1i, and has recently had problems with it cutting out, usually when it is warm. The battery light stays on, but the engine does not always die. On a decent run last sunday, the light came on, and she lost power steering, elec windows, etc. even though the engine didn't die.
Obviously it is still under warranty...

Could be a slipping alternator belt but im not sure how the PAS works on these, i think its electric so its possible that when the battery isnt charging that the PAS dies..

Definately needs to go back to citroen to look into.

Just noticed the sponge in my drivers seat in the c5 estate is disintigrating does anyone know a place that can repair them,Iv'e rung the local citroen dealers and been told it only comes with the seat cover at wait for it,£280 plus vat what a joke.Have to look for a damaged one at a breakers.Oh i'm in Bradford yorkshire.

I would be tempted to remove the cover, cut some sponge to shape and glue it in, once covered up you'll never know...

Hiya folks!!
My Xantia is going in for the MOT on Thursday, as a matter of course of checking fluids etc prior to this, I have noticed that the expansion tank cap has no rubber seal.
Is this correct? All I can see is that it is hard nylon on the bottom of the cap to the hard plastic of the expansion tank......

On my last trip to Norway I used the stick on headlamp beam benders, can anyone recomend where to get a good set of these for the Xantia?
Do they make reusable ones?

There are 3 cars going on our Norway trip my Xantia with wife and 3 boys in the back ages 1,3,7. Then my sister and brother in-law in their Ford Focus (57reg) with their 5yr old son...

Why not source some spare headlamp units from our foriegn friends and just swap them over as i doubt the police would be that bothered or even notice them in this country on your return for the 1 trip to the ferry and 1 trip back??

I think my Berlingo is unwell. It's a 52 reg, 2.0ltr HDi Berlingo van with 216k miles on the clock, and I stopped today to fill up with diesel. Coming back onto the A1 from the Shell station I chose my place in the line of traffic, indicated, booted it up the sliproad, and merged into the line as usual.

Well, whatever they did I just picked it up again, and we're back in action. Total bill came to £147.99, which included £5.95 for the part, labour 2 hours (only!) + vat.

All in all, I reckon that was a very fair deal considering my initial fears, and I can thoroughly recommend Peter Marwood in Brompton on Swale for good service and fair pricing....

Hi everyone, could someone please tell me what the orange warning light on the dashboard means?
I have a Xantia 98 1.8 LX Estate Manual.
I bought her about 1 month ago and don;t have the manual to check what the light means - it's a weird shape on the far left of the console, with what I can only describe as possibly an orange engine and a black K...

Regarding the radio always losing its memory- have you tried taking the headunit out and looking at the wires- you may find the red and yellow wires from the head into the wires being the dash are the wrong way round, change these over and you should be ok. I know because this is what i did with my Xsara

2000 2.0 HDi, just the other day I noticed that what I guess to be the tank fuel pump has got very noisy. Turn on the ignition and I get a really quite loud d-d-d-d-d-d-d sound for a few seconds. Then start the engine, and you can hear the sound again, like it's coming from the fuel tank.

Have just done my NS strut top and also the NS inner driveshaft boot. So after completion thought I would do some citaerobics and after I had done these put the car at normal height.
The rear is fine but the front will go up and down.Come up to normal and then drops a bit then back up a bit and then back down.

Hi,

I have 4 new spheres and a new accumulator in my 1995 Xantia 1.9TD.

Sometimes, when driving, I noticed that the rear raises up more than usual. Perhaps the front is lower than normal though!

Any ideas what causes this?

Chaps

I need a bit of advice regarding choice of vehicle to take abroad for my holiday.
My preferred option would be the Synergie, nice and big, bikes on the roof and on the tailgate, roofbox, kids can recline the back seats and get a decent kip. Downside is that 2nd gear syncro has still not been sorted and won't be before I go ( credit crunch...

Both stages can't be rushed... also, changing up is often easier that down, and doing this at all downhill is harder than uphill and flat, I would say...

basically, first stage is to get from gear into neutral.

This is done by applying light pressure to gearstick, whilst taking almost all throttle off..

1, timing belt and tensioners (garage job)
2, eventually got all the electric windows working ,
3, replaced sliding door handles and they all work
4, replaced wrongly fitted top engine mount (garage job)
5, new cd player fitted,

Me again. Are there any need to Know before I change the front pads on the Xantia.It's got ABS but I have never done ABS before.Sorry but at the moment I still like my 1.9 no fuss TD.

If it's a 110 (and possibly a 90 since it's an estate) it has different brakes to the 'lesser' versions. Changing the pads is much the same, except the bottom is held in by a bolt rather than the pin, and the pads can be difficult to get out of the carrier since the anti-rattle springs hold them in well.... Still need to screw the pistons back in,...

Guys, just curious. How long does it take your mid 90's model Xantia to rise from park to drive level? Aka from lowest to mid height.

Mine takes 1 minute 20 seconds almost all the time if parked for a few hours.....

I drive a 2001 Citroen Xsara 5 door hatchback 1.6 petrol. I have had it for over 7 years, and never really had much trouble with it, until recently.

I was perusing the Citroen service site and noticed that under the cruise control parts list there is a buzzer mentioned. Now I've never heard a buzzer when using cruise, am I supposed to have one or is it a country specific thing? And what's it for anyway?

Hi,
I put one of the de-catted front pipes on car this week- Xantia 2, Td- and lost one of the special bolts holding pipe to manifold. I had welded a long nut onto both of the bolts, so as to get a spanner on the heads easier, then went and lost one. It was for me a nightmare job to get the washer, spring, cupped washer and nut into a very tight...

ok job is done....thanks for the guidance....the way i did it in the end was to connect the clutch cable to the pedal before putting it back into the car (if you take the clutch cable out to maxmum adjustment as the gearbox end it gives you a lot of cable to play with at the pedal end)

Guys, i have a VSX with Hydractive,

Normally it rides super smooth. When you put it into sport suspension mode it handles alot better on bends and the road noise increases ever so slightly but unless you concentrate you cant really tell that much difference.

What i want to know is how much difference is it supposed to make? Is mine already...

Just hitched the caravan on for the first time and I suspect the height is set wrong.Receipts for all new spheres etc etc when I bought the car.Ride is smooth but not the best I've had.Gap above the rear arches (tyre to arch I would reckon is around 150mm.Yep it does look high.Has anybody got the dimesions handy.( I haven't got Haynes for this...
