Why does my C5 2.0Hdi auto whistle at me?

Hi

It only happens once approx 10-15 seconds after starting the engine - it sounds like the first half of a wolf whistle and is sometimes quite loud - it doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold - its got me baffled so any suggestions welcome

Is it the starter motor? Sometimes the starter can stick on for a few seconds after turning the key, usually making a whistling kind of noise.

Ive heard of a few C5s having this problem, mine does it sometimes.

Im not worried as yet, its done it since i got the car and has not got any worse. Though if it does stick on without going off that can really cause a big problem.

The HDI turbos make an odd noise sometimes - mine sounds ike the siren of an emergency vehicle in the distance!

Thanks for the suggestions - I think its coming from the offside so had not thought of the starter motor and judging by the noise its making, if its the turbo I think it will soon become obvious,

Does it do it with the aircon off?
