If you remove the trim around the radio/heater area (2 torx screws above ashtray remove ashtray first ) and then remove the radio (make sure you have code ) you can then undo the 4 screws which hold the heater control box in place.Push the heater box back to free it from its locating lugs then lift up and pull towards you.The black cover on the top nearest the front will lever up and off.You can now access the innards
My guess is that the cable has become kinked and tangled in the mechanism. With lots of percy wotsits you can straighten the cable and full use will be restored.
In good BOL tradition refitting is the reverse of the above

Had a similar problem with mine which turned out to be the vent flap catching on part of the foam liner behind the dash which had distorted with age. I fixed it when I did the matrix
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

good point but can you get to that foam without having to deal with the matrix. ?Stempy wrote:Had a similar problem with mine which turned out to be the vent flap catching on part of the foam liner behind the dash which had distorted with age. I fixed it when I did the matrix

The reason I mentioned the 'm' word is that to get to the vent flap you have to take the dash out, so I did both at the same time.

Had this problem and straightened a kink in the cable and it works fine now.
