Just as important to its ability to stop the coolant freezing, is the ability to stop corrosion damaging your engine and radiator. A 20% mix would probably be OK for a mild winter, but for corrosion purposes, a 50% mix is better. Find the capacity of your cooling system (around 8ltrs if I remember rightly) and plan to use half that amount as antifreeze.

Some radiators conveniently have a tap at the bottom, but if not, it'll be necessary to remove the bottom hose. Empty then flush through with water. Refill with half a litre of antifreeze, followed by half a litre of water. (I always use water from a dehumidifier.) Continue until the header tank is full. Open all bleed valves and allow the engine to tick over until all the air is expelled. It's important not to allow any airlocks to remain.

The recommended antifreeze for any Citroen is their own Citroen Antigel. You can get it at any GSF for around £4.25 a litre bottle. GSF also do other adequate coolant aditives in 5 ltr cans.

Personally I wouldn't use anything other than Citroen Antigel or alternatively the Mercedes product, available from Mercedes dealers.

Antigel - is that just the French word for antifreeze or is it something different?

Looks that way - I wondered if it might be in reference to anti-sludging properties but apparently not.
