Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

It would appear that one of the rods must have dropped off.
I do not think the trim will come off with the door shut.

Hi All had the above for about a month now no real problems apart from the leaky back door and pond in rear footwell but nothing I can't sort myself :D

Anyway whent out to start it this evening and let it run for 10 mins with the fan on because there was as much ice inside the windows as outside :roll:

Starts with CRUNCH not like a sticking...

If valves have hit pistons then theres a good chance of NO bent valves... fitting a Cam - which isn't a straight fit and go job - and cap bearings may well sort the running out....

replacing the cam will also need valve clearences resetting, and 8/10 the cap bearings will go tight when fitted to your head, this is due to the fact that cap...

Hi All : on the 1.9 ZX TD girling (cjn48) front brake caliper you have 2 guide pin bolts that are threaded in to the back of the guide pins with thread lock, does anyone have any pins and or know What tourque to tighten them to .. ? Cheers All, Angus

To be honest I never use a torque wrench for anything like this, I just use what I consider to be a decent tightness.

Use the prinipal that the bigger the spanner / socket the tighter the bolt / nut will be.

Were the entire contingent of forum Xantia drivers in Norfolk this
afternoon? In the space of a few 100 yards in Diss I literally saw about
a dozen very smart clearly cherished cars, one of which an N plated
red Activa!! :shock: :P

It was almost too much for me to comprehend as I rarely even see

Hi all
Have just returned from 1500 mile trip (2 weeks) :) and now im home the drive belt has shredded and im pretty sure this is the problem :cry: :cry:

this roller is the top one and moves freely as does the other roller and the pulleys (HP and A/C)

Is this going to be an expensive fix and would you err on the side of caution and...

Just to concur, had exactly same problem on my Xsara 1.9D.Changed all the pulleys but the belt would occasionally jump a rib on the crank pulley.Tried original and gates type belts - fault still happened.
Belt snapped and went into cam belt tunnel, was very lucky as in no bent valves only bent the bolt for the cam belt idler pulley.

I have discovered a small but worrying leak from my HP on my 1.9TD.

It is dripping down onto the alternator and eventually dripping off the bottom of it,i assume its running right through it :cry: :cry:

i cant find my camera at the moment so will try and describe where its leaking from

The stubborn union was finally released by using a small set of mole grips mine were of the Stone Age variety and left no space to hold the 19mm union :oops: :oops:

Im considering buying another Xantia, and the owner of it has listed a few problems:

A few electrical issues, such as:
One rear door does not unlock with the others

I've been attempting to install an aftermarket radio in my brothers C5 today, but I've come across a problem. The car will no longer start. It appears that the car no longer recognises the key. Does this need Citroen to re-set it? Also it appears that installing a new radio isn't as straight forward as I thought. There seemed to be several 12V...

It looks like each device that's connected to the VAN has a separately fused feed to the device (eg. SAT NAV, Climate Control, Instrument panel etc.) for it to work as normal and then the VAN has a separate fused feed to the same device just for the VAN function.

Chaps, i know we are not boy racers but im interested to know what speeds you get out of your 1.9TD Xantias.

1, Comfortable cruising speed on the motorway (I get 65/70 mph before it starts to sound like its being pushing)
2, Max speed before red line (i hit 95mph once and it was being floored)

I know mine is way off what it should be for...

My problem is that I am in Bergundy (France) with my Mk1 Xantia V6, and this morning, the transmission has gone into a strange mode.

I drove the car about 2km, and it was operating perfectly, I then stopped the car and switched off the engine for about 30 seconds, and restarted the engine in neutral. On selecting D, nothing happened.

I have found that if the connector to the multi-switch is unclipped from the transmission, and the wires stretched upwards, you can leave the connector in a position where the voltages can be checked with the air filter...

C5 (03) CD player is knackered. How much would a direct OEM replacement cost? They rarely turn up on Ebay and when they do they need coding to the cars, which is another cost. Tried installing a JVC radio and buggered up the car (it won't start) so I've given up on that.

Any one had any joy with these on a Xsara (1999). Std fitment is H4. Currently got Phillips (blue) bulbs fitted.Saw some advertised in Leeds reduced from £156 to £75 so I bought them. Dip beam was HID but main was a small halogen bulb on side. Light quality absolute pants and none existant on main beam as xenon part was extinguished on main...

Hi a newbie happy to find a Citroen forum

I recently purchased a 2005 C5 1.6 HDI design. 13,000 miles.

While parked and engine running I noticed the brake lights were not coming on so I tapped the pedal a few times and no lights,
I then pushed the pedal as far down as it would go,
went nearly went to the floor I got a bleep and a warning...

Brake lights fixed, took the switch out cleaned and oiled and set. thxs :D

Also no ESP/ESR errors now, I can't believe this was a fix but and more a coincidence but having learned a lot in a few weeks C5 electrics are capable of anything. On the high level brake light a bulb was out replaced it and no more errors. :?

Hi all, I've got an R reg Xantia 2.1 TD and the other day I noticed the PAS pump (I think!) is making a bit of a grinding noise :?
The noise normally goes away when the car is warm, but not always. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be the problem?

Regarding brakes on an Xantia.

As there are various different models with different engines, and therefore performance, are there any detailed differences between the models regarding brakes, and the specification fitted, I.E are the calipers, and rotors different, and are brakes on a V6 uprated, compared to the less powerful models?

Just to complicate thing, my 97 TD has 283mm discs... Generally if it has 15 inch wheels they will be the bigger discs as 1.8 petrols of the same age and spec of mine had 14 inch wheels and smaller discs.

Any body had problems with fuel control relay? Lexia 3 flicking between inactive/active on this component. Battery voltage was reading 12.10 Vdc at the time, don't know if this would affect this relay. I am trying to resolve a start-up problem at the momemt and am trying everything. Can any body please point me in the direction where it is...

Happy Christmas to everybody.

On Christmas day I travelled 12 miles to see some friends. I noticed the C5 seemed reluctant to pick up along the way, but, when we arrived we could smell something like clutch burning. We then saw smoke rising from the front left wheel.

We all got out and I could see the front left brake disc glowing bright red...

Just for argument's sake, say this noise was at least 400Hz, while the AL4 was kicked down and accelerating hard towards 50MPH.

No, they say the engine has a bore and stroke of 86 x 86mm which gives a displacement of 1998cc. 1989cc must be a typo.

I think the website is guilty of FFS (Fat Finger Syndrome). 62 BHP seems woefully low for the XU10J4R though....

It should be possible Greg as the non-turbo and SD Xantia used a push clutch. I reckon you might need to swap the flywheel and certainly you'd need to swap the clutch release arm in the bellhousing.

If it will give you what you want though is another matter entirely. I find a good 1.9TD pull clutch is an absolute delight and as light as a feather...

Not sure I want to confess this here but despite getting my old 2.1TD Xantia running again after the cambelt “jumped” a few teeth I’m thinking of stripping it for spares for the HDi I bought when I needed a replacement in a hurry.

While the remote central locking packed up some while ago in the old car it does have 3 keys (2 plips and the spare)...

driving home tonight I think the clutch cable went......I manged to get the car home (1.9td xantia estate 97r) and have de-energised the air bag taken off the steering wheel and removed the instruent cluster.. It looks like it has snapped right where it comes through the bulkhead, but i can only guess as i cant really get near the top of the...

The one item not yet replaced on my car is the spark plugs. Looking around there are many variations available including some quite expensive Iridium tippped ones. Has anyone any thoughts/recommendations on type ?

Standard plugs wont last more than 20K tops, and would have to be re-gapped a couple of times to ensure trouble free starting and running. The factory derived service recommendations I have here for late XU10J4R, set an interval of 60 000km for replacing plugs. There is no inspection or adjustment scheduled before this, nor is it dependent on type...

Right I'm struggling here a little. I've retimed the engine and put the timing belt back on. However, on turning the engine through 8 revolutions the timing holes no longer line up. I thought this might have to do with the belt being too loose so I tightened it up some more. Now on turning the engine everything lines up - am just a bit paranoid...

Its a fairly short run between the cam and pump as shown, and that should make it a bit more hard to twist the belt :roll:

Just a little bit tighter Anders, I agree but it'll be critical to check it when the engine is hot and fully expanded and thus tensioning the belt more.

When hot it should be just possible to twist the belt almost 90...

But its X-mas, and right now the in-laws are stranded in my driveway with a near-dead '95 ZX14 reflex 3door.

p1351 would be either the glowplug heater relay, related wiring, any related fuse (if fitted) or a defective glowplug.

I found this by googling p1351 fault code .

I saw that one Anders but it seemed to mention a few other fault codes as well so i was not sure if P1351 actually related to glowplugs or not :?

95 Xantia hatchback, problem is that i have a wet rear passenger footwell. It seems to be confined to the front left hand corner of the rear footwell (as seen if you were sitting in the back passenger seat) so just behind the front seat on the left hand side.

The front passenger footwell is a little damp but not wet per say.
I figured it was sweat from the underside of the overmats. The car was freshly valeted when i bought it and the carpets still damp. You could tell it was that because you could feel the soap in it.

After being made redundant in September, I finally got the time (but not the finance) to start to renovate my Xantia. It has been neglected by the previous owner for three years and was in dire need of some TLC. I have renewed the brakes and spheres, cambelt, water pump, alternator belt. Finally the internal fan works as do all the dash lights...

First thing might be to check the multi-contact switch atop your transmission, for good conductance.

Then I'd be looking for whatever throttle position (kickdown or excition in Franglais) switch it has - not sure if it's taken off the throttle body, or down near the pedal. That could well be the culprit IMO - but pure speculation, as I've...

How hard is it to convert a Xantia TD Auto to a manual if you have a manual varient sat next to it?

Just wondering about this one with an autobox fault i've spotted on the bay you see....

Could it be done in a day with a new clutch as well as im guessing the hardest part would be swapping the pedals over and sorting out the autobox electrics to...

Im not convinced the 1.9TD is set up correctly as per normal ride height
As i dont have access to a pit/four point ramp does anyone have any comment on the quoted price of £30 to set the ride hide correctly from an indie garage

It's seems highly likely that I'm about to be forced to use jump leads to awaken a C5 2.0 HDI that has been standing for a while.
