Xsara saloon wheel wobble under braking

Post by Quinny »

The wifes got an 02 plate Xsara HDi, and since we bought it about 3 months ago, there has been the most annoying wheel wobble under braking. Some times it was so violent, you would have thought the wheels were going to drop off.

Since buying it, the following have been changed:

Front discs and pads
N/S front spring
New front tyres

Now the wobble seems to be at a specific speed, 30-40mph, but is not apparent under acceleration or cruising. I swapped tyres front to back on both sides yesterday, and it doesn't seem to be as bad, but nevertheless is still there.

Has anyone else had this peculiar French problem?

Lower control arm bush, rear portion. I'll put quids on either this OR the balljoint OR both.

Thanks guys.

You've stated what has also been said to me by others, so that's what I'll be looking at this weekend.

Right.

Had a nosey around today, and there are no obvious signs of wear on either part, but I happened to stumble across an independent in Thirsk who I rang, and mentioned the problem to.

He advise to check the hubs for trueness, as he has known hubs to be out of line, and give the aforementioned problem as well.

Shame he wasn't nearer as he could have it for a day to see if he's correct.

Does anyone know of an independent nearer to Wakefield?
