Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

A recent s2 Xantia I've purchased has the digital counter with the built in
service timer. I'm just wondering if this information is stored in the speedo
head or logged into the ECU like the older generation Xant immobilisers?

Some citroens do a 10 second countdown to zero & some the digits change one by one till it goes to the service interval. cant remember which models & years do which, either way the reset procedure is pretty much the same.

Not posted for a good while because no probs on our Cits to ask about (and I don't know enough to help others!!) but still log on frequently!
Anyway, quite a lot of people on another forum I frequent refer to Common Rail engines as Common Fail .

I have noticed recently that the back end of my car swerms about when i go round corners if ii meet a bump, and also feels reminisant of having a flat tyre or similar at any sort of speed if a minor change in direction is made like on the Motorway, it sort of feels lose at the back end. HELP! :lol:

since buying the van i've not had any speedo back lights - well i can see from 60mph onwards, but 0-60 is in the dark. Also, i have no temp gauge back light either.

I've taken the dash out a replaced some of the 286 1.2v bulbs in the other side & that's working grand now. I just can't see how to change the speedo bulbs - there's...

Usually the backlighting is done by plastic light guides.
Look round the location for the speedo unit and you may find a weird clear plastic thingy.
The bulb(s) could be located quite far away from the speedo head unit itself.

I have had a few cetroens in the past and have now come back to citroen again, I have had a bx gti,bx 19 diesel estate old f reg,a xantia 2L petrol, and now i brought a 03 2.2 hdi xs c5 with 65K on it and hope its going to be as reliable as the others i have had.So its goodbye frontera that has cost me £3000+ in spares in two years your off...

My xantia has developed a bit of a crunch - when changing down through the gears, if you move the lever across the gate towards 2nd you get a slight crunch. I recently topped the box up and put in some molyslip as the box had been leaking for some time - anybody any ideas?

You can check if your clutch is disengaging OK by depressing it stationary with the engine running and see if it will go easily into reverse gear with out crunching, the baulking may be due to the clutch not disengaging properly. If it is, then you probably have wear in the synchros, pausing briefly between gears may help. If it fails the 'reverse...

Ive tried a couple of codes from a decoder i downloaded but i can't get it working. I must be doing something wrong or using the wrong decoder, the hour wait to unlock is starting to get annoying! The radio was working prior to disconnecting the battery.

The serial number is bp2775v9721760

Found a dangling loose connector under the in engine of my Xantia 2.1TD 98/R. Can't find anything to plug it into...

Its a green connector with what looks like orange and green wires leading from it. The other end disappears in some trunking which disappears into the bowels of the engine bay.

Everything seems to work without it plugged in,...

Im looking into replacing the LEDs in my 3030 stereo as a few of them appear to be dead and what with them being placed in series, once one has gone, all of them have.

While I was checking them I presumed, being Light Emitting DIODES, that they would only accept current in one direction...a couple of them would some a little resisance both ways...

Hi all, just bought a 97 xantia 1.9td.

The aux belt thrown a wobbler on the 2nd day of owning, just after replacing all 4 glow plugs :? Sods law eh.

I tried to replace the belt to discover the tensioner isn't in very good nick at all. Its the auto style tensioner, the car has air con. The bolt that holds it on is loose, Infact it goes fully home...

Hi all,

I have a xsara est 2.0 HDI '99' V plate.. Wheres the bloody sump plug?!?!?!?! i think i have found it but theres seems to be 2, one above the other and guess what, i cant get the bottom one undone. Am i trying on the right nut??? its 21mm external with a 8mm hex internal..

My washers have suddenly stopped working, plenty of liquid in reservoir but no whirring of pump motor(where is it located-under driver's wing?). Handbook says same fuse as wipers and they work OK. No other electrical faults.

Any ideas? How do I get access to washer pump? Should I suspect control stalk?

The washer tank can be removed and refitted by removing
- front wheel
- wheel arch liners
- headlight (3 torx screws) and front light

Headlight washer motor is located above the windscreen washer motor (almost same level as the fluid level sensor).

Xantia laid up for MOT work etc and I took the battery off for charging as alarm eats battery over time. Usual siren/lights flashing as I removed battery & later refitted-stopped siren by pressing button on dash.
But now remote/key central locking not working, although pressing down a locking button from inside car works.
Any ideas?

I didn't try key on the passengers side-bit fed up with the Xantia-I'll try that tomorrow(Sat).
Remote plip batteries were replaced in the last 12 months.

I have noticed when doing citerobics that if I turn from lock to lock when the suspension is on low that I get a real froth entering the LHM tank. Does this indicate air being drawn into the steering somewhere or is this normal ?

Provided the fluid level is correct its normal.

When you release fluid under very high pressure, it will always tend to spray as it instantly hits the surrounding air.
Here this is the case inside a return pipe, hence the spray is then collected as fluid heavily mixed with air, i.e. frothing.

I'm pleased to find the pinion valve bone dry (touch vinyl!) but the main reg has a drip/splash of sorts going on.

Its upper surfaces look dry, and the sphere/reg seal looks good - no leakage apparent from there. Where the fluid seems to be coming from, is possibly the union between the screwed on lower hat which fits the leak-off hose, and the...

they do sometimes leak from the tail end of the body, around the edge of the end cap which the mounting bolt is threaded into, im not sure on a fix as i aint been there yet,

but im sure the likes of Jim will come up with the fix if that is were it is leaking from

It's for the turbo, it is just below the radiator, it's a large 90 degree, 60mm dia.

Im not sure if the exterior temp sensor has any effect on the A/C system on the xantia.

I don't believe it does. As far as I can tell, it simply drives the temperature display. I base that on the observation that if the sensor is not working it makes no difference to the performamce of the heater and secondly, the lower spec. A/C equipped...

Drivers side headlight bulb has gone, replaced with new one ( and tested as working before fitting), new bulb wont work!, also had drivers side indicator ( little orange bulb) changed this also this not working!, have checked all blade fuses, ( numbers 12 and 13 in fuse box i think), 20's were in place and seem ok. Just bought a 1997 Citroen Xantia SX TD 1905 cc turbo manual and have found the heater and the rear window heater does not always work, which leaves me with a real problem in the mornings. Sometimes I have to switch the car off and then restart to get them to go. They seem to be linked - is this right?

Welcome to the forum florence :D

Its a common problem for the Series 1 Xantias as the power for the blower and heated rear window goes through the ignition switch which is a bit of a silly design due to the fairly high currents involved :lol:
The problem stems from the ignition switch burning out, we have an entire thread dedicated to this here...

brought a diesil to go to work in stop the miles cranking up on the saxo. Came to start the saxo after about 14 days and it was dead jumped it like have done many times it fired 1st time no worries but ecu light came on but tihs has happened before (de-cat) was never limited just light came up but only when driving it, it was limited to 3000 had...

The car has started to mis-fire (stutter) at low revs in low gears and on hills. Seems to drive okay in higher revs and higher gears. Can anyone give me an idea what might be wrong?

I've removed the whole heater box housing in the past but that must've
been a while back now as I'm damned if I can remember how it was
fastened in!

I ask, as I will need to replace a matrix in my Activa and have tried a
dummy run with an AC estate I'm currently breaking! The dash is out
and the main loom across the dash has been unclipped...

Hi,

bit of a daft queston but I don't have a haynes for my ZX -

Am I right in making the assumption that to adjust the handbrake tension, you have to take the plastic surround off and there will be two cables with threaded ends on them?

Its very slack - to the point where you can hoik up the handbrake and it rolls on the slightest of inclines...

Hi, new to the site and the car, so please bear with me !! Just taken a 1993 Xantia non turbo diesel, with rear suspension problem, in that it will not rise from the lowest position, I have been told that it may do after time when driven, I have also been told that if I jack the car up it will stay up for a couple of days and then drop again, can...

I have a good TD sinker pump you can have but I MUST have your old one in exchange as my pump forms the heart of my sphere tester. Yours will be OK for that role as it's not a very demanding one.

I obtained a rack which is from a 99 Xantia which has a different Pinion valve and rack design.
My rack has the power ram bolted onto the rack which i believe is the option for several years poss btn 93 - 98,...

Hi Gang,

I managed to access service citroen and it would appear to be the same Pinion valve for all mk 2 1.9 TD & SD but different Pinion valves for the 2.0 hdi, 2.1TD.

The mk 1 D & TD 1.9 would appear to have a modified to make the mk 2.

Does anyone out there have any photos or diagrams of these valves and others fitted to the petrol...

Mike, it could be so simple as plugs or leads past their best. You're experiencing misfire under load and that usually indicates a spark issue. Injector problems aren't that common in my exposure to EFI cars, although the possibility is often flagged.

Hi,

The passenger side washer nozzle snapped where the tube goes on. I am going to get new nozzles but was wondering if there were any tips on how to remove and replace these nozzles? It looks like they are just pressed in but I don't want to damage anything in removal or fitting.

Any tips greatly appreciated!

well this was easily fixed. the existing nozzles seems to have failed at some previous point and there was black rubber/gunge melted all over it. It was easy to cut this out and then twist/break the nozzle out. It left some plastic piping within the washer tubing which had to take out.

The new nozzle clipped into place very easily.

Hopefully somebody can help with my 2000 Xantia 2.0 HDiSX hatchback problem.

The button which is pressed to release the rear hatchback lid, now has to be pressed virtually as far as it will go, before it will - just - release the catch and open the door.

How can this be adjusted, so it only needs pressing in half way to release, like the last...

I have a similar problem with my xantia, when you unlock the car you have to press the boot catch almost immediately otherwise the central locking relay ?, wrong name I think, doesn't stay in position and gradually creeps back so that the pushbutton doesn't work, I have to use the key on the bootlock or operate the central locking to locked...

I'm the proud owner of a 96 (n reg) ZX Volcane 2.0 8v. I love the car but have noticed an odd noise whilst accelerating. You seem to be describing perfectly normal Xantia suspension behaviour. All Xantiae have 'active' suspension that automatically compensates for changes of load both when the engine is running and, within the capacity of the rear (anti-sink) accumulator, when the engine is off.

I have a note that a deep cranked (deep offset) 12mm ring spanner is needed to remove and fit glow plugs on the XUD9 (1.9TD) engine.

I'm about to make an expedition to fill a few gaps in my tool-chest - I need a set of deep sockets for a start. Can anyone give me an authoritative answer to the question,

The concensus seems to be that a deep-cranked (offset) ring spanner is a great help with glowplugs. I've had a motley set of imperial cranked ring spanners for years and always preferred them to ring-and-open ended. But only recently found metric ones.

Driving to work this morning i heard a nasty rumbling noise from the car, after pulling over i found that the cooling fans are on and going mad (one has a bad bearings which is probably why the noise was so bad). They didn't cut out even though the temp guage was showing only 1/4 on the guage.

I topped the header tank up and it had very sludgy...

Oh dear :(

Rusty water in a header tank is a very bad omen.

Sounds like the cooling system is full of sludge and the rad has choked. Likely as it's been run with weak/non-existent antifreeze.

Only thing is to drain, flush very thoroughly, both engine and rad, and then refill with coolant (50/50 antifreeze/water) and see how it behaves then....

I have just boought a Xsara Picasso Exclusive 1.6 HDI 110bhp 2005

Is there a workshop manuel for these?

Are there any little quirks to watch out for.

Can the battery be disconected without having to have it rebooted on a dealer computer?

Hi all I have just joined this forum and am asking for your help please.

2000 model year Berlingo 1.9 NA D Van.
I found lots of oil in my header tank.
No water is present in the oil.
Heater still works fine.
Does not overheat.
Starts on the nail.

2 Questions.

1) Is it likely to be the oil cooler?

2) Is it a job that a DIY bloke like myself can...

Hi Chaps
My Father in law's C5 has died on him. The battery seems fine - wipers and lights work and all dashboard lights come on BUT turn the key to start the engine and nothing happens. Not even a slight attempt to turn the engine. Does anyone know where to start looking :(

Turns out it was the battery after all - so I feel a bit silly now. We tried the jump leads and she sprang into life straight away. Had the battery checked and it was on its last legs so a new one has been installed and all is well.

Hi, I have recently replaced steering rack gaiter which has been divided in 3 separate parts. I got some useful tips from FCF topics search results. This was so called the easy side. I just had to remove one bolt from the rack end. The steering rack in LHD and RHD are almost exact copies of their mirror images.

Hi gang,

Can you replace dashbulbs from under the drivers footwell? If not then do you need to remove the steering wheel to get the dash clocks out?

Also my heater control (ie hot or cold) slider isnt working properly...is it easier to replace the panel from a scrappers?

Hi folks, am i correct in saying that there's a difference in the strut tops on a 2.0 Mk1 petrol and a 1,9 VSXtd ? , the reason for my enquiry is that my local scrappy has a 2.0 petrol Xantia which he says has new strut tops, i haven't seen the car but i will be going next Sat..
My Xant is a VSXtd, so if there's a difference they are no use to me,...

Thanks for the additional advice Mike , i'll give them a good check over, if they are as the scrappy says (new) there should be no issues , if however theres any doubt i'll give them a miss.
I'm doing the discs and pads on mine tomorrow, so i'll check my strut tops as well
