is radiator seal ok to use in a xantia ?

Hi
My xantia has started losing water again,in the summer i had a new water pump fitted, i am guessing the matrix maybe on its way out sometimes you get a funny smell inside and it can be a bit misty inside. i find the air con is better at clearing the screen !
The car has lost a little water sinse the pump was fitted but not too much today i changed the battery and i thought i will check everything and it needed about 1/4 of a litre. :(
I guess the heater matrix s are a pig of a job as its french ! ?

Are you sure its the heater matrix and not a rain water leak making the cabin misty? have a good check round the engine bay, i personaly wouldnt put a sealant in the coolant unless really, really necassary.

If the matrix was loosing enough to drop the level appreciably then you'd know about it with a very soggy passenger footwell and terrible misting issues.

The matrix can smell and not loose an appreciable amount in my experience. The smell is very distinctive and of curry. If the smell is more of a musty one than you have a rainwater leak.

Damp inside the car will cause misting and the fact the aircon clears it quickly tends to suggest the matrix is not at fault.

The loss of water is more likely to be from the rad than the matrix..

The matrix is a bit of a tedious old job to replace. Not technically difficult, just a bit long-winded...

Forte Radiator stop leak is what you need, if you really need it. :)

Knock something up yourself with a footpump and a rubber bung - it doesn't need much pressure to reveal a leak.

K-Seal was recommended to me by my usual motor factor as being of comparable quality to Forte, I used it earlier this year to cure a leaking radiator and it has done the job perfectly.
