Drips from accumulator

Post by Stempy »

I seem to have a bit of a drip from the Acc sphere but can't easily make out where it originates from. I guess the first thing to do is change the o rings on the sphere and release valve, anything else I should look for (apart from a lost ball bearing  )?

The V6 pressure regulator is known to leak Stempy, normally from the big O ring in the end. Look straight down upon it from above and if it's damp at the top, this is the trouble. It's difficult to replace and best left to Pleiades.

I reckon the heat gets it.

The other possible cause is a perish in the LHM return pipe back to the reservoir. It's well known for failing on the tee where the small pipe to the hydractive electrovalve branches off...

it will either be a loose return pipe, one of three 'o' rings failed, one behind the plastic retainer for the cut out valve, one on the bottom plug that houses the cut in valve or the sphere seal, also as you say the one on the bleed screw.

That's a useful picture Dean :D

What's your method for replacing the O ring at the end? Pressing down on that big spring must be a bit fun.

Hydraulic press I guess?

Interesting & useful thread, are these units the same across the xantia range? mine's had a minor leak since i bought it despite the previous owner saying he'd replaced the seals. I could do with fixing it but I've actually done very little on xantia suspension systems & I'm more used to LDS rather than LHM :?
Music keeps me going.

Excellent photo; thanks Dean. I have a few vices, so that is a good approach.

Were the reg shims hard to find?

They are the same item from, well, the DS i would imagine, but certainly the same regulator is fitted to the BX, XM and Xantia, the only difference is Anti sink cars with the 6 2 pump have a single outlet port on the regulator and sinkers have two outlets, one for suspension and brakes, the other for steering via the FDV.

Yes! citroen no longer do them  , i found some washers with the same overal diameter and used a file to open them out to the right size, one regulator needed the cut out valve packing out 4mm to get it up to its correct output.

Excellent info, thanks. It makes me want to dig into my regulator ASAP.

If you're not 100% on the reg internals being the same bore as a Dee, can you provide typical thickness/ID/OD specs? Then I can possibly compare notes with the Dee brigade.

Cheers, Adam.

yeah, ive got a spare or two, i could measure one up, there will be differences of course like the early ones only have two springs, one for each shuttle valve the latter ones have 4 springs, two for each valve, for some reason. They work fine without the extra smaller springs though.
