Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Unfortunally, it IS a dash out job, COMPLETELY! unfortunally the matrix outlet pipes are attached DIRECTLY to the pipes under the bonnet meaning it needs to be buried at the rear most of the dash..

Steering wheel off more for access, but I dont think the colum needs to come off.. remove : Clocks,...

I just bought a 2004 Citroen C3. The 1 previous owner has taken the Clarion 5 disc changer upgrade, meaning the car now has a Double DIN/2 x standard DIN size stereos in it.

I want to remove the whole thing and fit my own (standard DIN sized) stereo.

Can anyone tell me where to buy a fascia plate/cover that will cover the gap left by removing...

It's nothing to be scared of, firstly it depends on if you have a mk1 or 2 as they have different radio connectors, ISO on the early ones & quadlock on the later ones.
If you have the mk 2 you will need an adaptor. If you have the early type then most aftermarket radios come with ISO connections. If you switch the radio off from it's button before...

Guys the time is coming nearer for me to get an automatic due to my wife learning to drive in an auto....we will be sharing a car :shock:

Shane doesnt like autos here in Australia. I have a MY02 C3 with the AL4. It did have a solonoid issue that was changed under warranty but now after 2-3 oil changes the gearbox is pretty good. I sometimes find it holds onto gears too long when going up hills in certain conditions but my French car mechanic said they are very good and he hasnt...

Thanks for all the inputs for my sphere changing. As I may have to wait a while for tools and parts, thought I'd ask about the other main jobs I have to do.

Basically I never got round to changing the auxiliary drive belt when dealing with my fuel pump last year.

It kind of makes sense to do all in one go as once i'm under there everything...

if so, where is the drain plug for the engine block located?

Anothe question: How many tubes are there two change in the coolant system. The one from thermostat to radiator is new... how many more are...

Hello, I am one of these people who doesn't really want to strip out my very good quality citroen radio and put something in the dashboard that doesn't look right in the space shuttle let alone a citroen xantia.

The very last thing that wow's me these days is a blue back lit video screen with flashy lights and if you want any oomph in a car...

Personally I'm waiting for the BBC to allow their iplayer over the 3G network rather than wifi only.
Cassy has a bluetooth radio for hands free talking and can also stream music (and movie soundtrack when watching films) from my phone.
I tried starting iplayer to catch up on the 6:30pm comedy I'd missed while waiting...

Hi all after changing engine in my zanty.spilt engine yesterday to have a looksy for problem i had ie oil going into water!. cracked head! checking bores and they have no wear at all still have honing marks and no ridge at top or anything like that.so if anyone wants it? it's available to them for free.as would rather let someone have who would...

Hi is that the later type inlet pipe? with looks like an O ring? are they plastic now as my new engines got a black bit now and old was ali and always get blow by unless you make gasket and or have timeserts? put init a captive splined nut thing so can tighten it up. yes will be thinking of removing/blocking egr. what you could do with is removing...

Has anybody any experience of using a tuning box on their Xantia diesel, or any advice to offer on those units.

Also had my previous Xantia 1.9TD done by Vanaaken.That made a nice difference as well.
If i was to do it again,i would have a tuning box next time.
Now,what would happen if i fitted a tuning box to my 406???Would that give it an extra 30 bhp & take it to 170bhp??? :lol: :lol:

I need to replace several bulbs on my M reg ZX. I've not changed them before and it seems that there is quiet a few to chose from. I do a lot of dual carriage way driving and would like to get good value for my money. Can anyone suggest what type/make I should go for. And should I replace them all at once or just replace the ones that have blown...

I had the same problem on mine a while back. I fitted firstly a cheap GSF range one but shortly after changed it for their dearer OE quality version.

It was alot heavier and like you suggested, i have painted that part of the rear silencer with high temp silver paint.

Its been on for a few months now and is still as new :wink:

If i was to buy a C5 what pitfalls or issues should i be aware of.

Having read about issues on earlier C5's is there a particular year that i should be looking from. Do not want to spend a fortune on a C5 but i need some info so i can see if one is affordable and it gives me plenty of time to look around for one because i am happy with the Xantia...

I have a C5 with the Trafficmaster Oracle, now i am used to Trafficmaster having a Freeway unit in my previous car but i am unable to get this one working. I have paid the £30 subscription and it was accepted by the car but all it says now is Trafficmaster !
I keep pressing the 'Tm' button to try and prompt an update but nothing...

The inerta switch on above vehicle is only Receiving 8.5 volts hence in tank low pressure pump not
working battey voltage at switch is fed from pin 7 on 15 pin relay via at15 pin relay i get 8.5
volts when multi plug from relay disconnectd and a jump wire attached from battery positive
to pin 7 multi plug voltage reading at inerta switch is...

The inertia switch is on the earth side of the primary part of the injetion relay & the output to the fuel pump is from pin 4. If you are gettin less than battery voltage at pin 4 that suggests there is a problem with the wiring going in to the double relay.
You should be getting battery voltage at pins 3,8,11 & 15 of the double relay with the...

I just changed the faulty one on both car at this moment because the price for 1 glow plug NGK YE-04 it is ~21E; not very cheap... 8 glow plugs 168E.

That seems very expensive, compared to this price

I tried to look on EuroCarParts but the listing is a mess and says it can't give prices for C5 ignition leads :(.

Hi All,

As probably my last job on my Dad's Xantia before I pack my bags for the rainy UK I fitted a new pair of rear suspension spheres and anti-sink sphere.

Imagine my surprise when I opened the boxes and found not green, but grey spheres :shock:

How do you change the oil/ Do you need to take of undertray. I can't see a plug.

Also is the oil filter hand tightened and therefore easy to get off?

Oil filters are the same across the diesel range (and, I think, for petrol as well) so no problems.

You have a choice with the fuel filter.

1) The element is the same so you could take that out and use it.
2) Buy just an element from Leclerc, Carrefour, Auchan, Feu Vert etc
3) Buy complete filter assembly from a Citroen dealer
4) Buy complete...

Hi

My mirrors have ceased folding back using the remote or the button on the armrest. I have taken the switch out and cleaned it but was no use.

Is there a fuse for this feature? there isnt one listed in the instruction book or do i need a new switch?

Every now an then, gears go into limp home mode, this happens when i am waiting at redlight and have put gear into P..think it might have happened also when I'v put it in N. usually takes a couple of minutes before it happens...any ideas?

Hello,

Could someone please just tell me the procedure in removing the egr valve on a 2.0 hdi

I have a year 2000 synergie 2.0hdi and am finding that the egr valve is hard to get at because there is a lot less room between bulkhead and engine than in the xantia, c5, etc. However, I thought that if I knew the procedure it could make life a little...

there was an ax track car there, there were only 30 cars in total so didn't see much of them, yes the v6 pretty much got passed all the clio and some beemas on the corners, i put the transmission in snow mode and it let me change when i wanted, even then i could only use second and third, it doesn't give for a sporty ride drive really, i do wonder...

The past few nights my C5 hatch has left a small pool of its supension fluid on the garage floor. So ive had it on the ramps to see if i can figure out whats leaking.

It looks quite wet under the rear of the car, but i cant pinpoint where its...

Well the new seals are fitted, it seems to have stopped the leak :D

Hopefully it will fly through its MOT later this week. :)

My brother (bless him) just phoned to say his heads playing tricks on him.

He has owned his Xantia for 4 years and he has forgotten the 4 digit code.

He tried 3 different codes but no luck.

I know this could look suspicious and I'm stealing a car but I can assure you this is genuine. I am a long standing member.

Is there any way he could...

Dear All

Well I've finally got some time to get all the jobs done on the car for this summer. So this will probably be the first of many requests :)

I've got a string of jobs, but the current most annoying one is the rear suspension. Basically there isnt any! It bounces like a bouncy castle over speed bumps, and rear passengers heads keep...

hydractive are i belive or the metal section at least are 6mm, but as i say with metal and high presure rubber sections

I recerntly noticed that my rear suspension was dropping every time I got out of the Xantia when in the past it held pretty steady at least for a while anyway, I also noticed that the suspension was getting a little hard at the rear end, Xantia estates seem to be a little better with some weight in the boot.

so I checked the LHM only to find it...

in the days of CX's and G's citroen used to say replace the citro blood (LHM) every 60K, but we used to clean filter at intervals inbetween this,

before liftting the tank out disconect all the pipes comming to it, gently uncip them

What are guys paying for these on Xantia sizes. Tried a few places today................nearly 80 quid a pop :shock: . Have Michelin had some funny price rises or what?

There was a thread a few months back with a big debate on the best tyres for a Xantia, might be worth having a snoop before splashing out.
I've got Goodyear Excellence on the front of mine, stiffer sidewalls than the old Enduro Runways which helped greatly with handling.
I know Toby_HDI had Vrestrian somethings? or something spelt similar to that...

I am new to this site and am thinking about buying a C15 van.

I understand that two different payload versions were made, the 600 and the 800. How can you tell the difference between the two?

Did the 800 have a stronger chassis?

The drivers door on every van I have looked at seems to have dropped and strikes the door pillar, is this a common...

i just got one of the little usb things of ebay, so far it is very good reading fault codes and clearing, and giving real time information, i would love to hear about any more features of this tool such as adjusting shift points in the suspension, autobox and engine parameters (have some experience with the latter already) ...

Having 2 of the beasts, one tends to sit around not doing very much.

The battery in the Mk2 seems to drain in about a month, so I try to take for a drive every 3 weeks. Yesterday I went to drive it and the battery gave out just before the engine fired. I connected jumper leads from the Jag, and the starter spun the engine over OK, but no fire.

another tip, if it doesn't start immediately it is asking for as little resistance as possible, lower the suspension setting to minimum , give it those few seconds and it will burst into life, many mornings i have thought the battery was dead, followed this proceedure and it behaved as if everything was normal

I got to work this morning and thoaght I jack the car up and check on the front pads .

Undone the the wheels nuts to find one Bolt has sheard level with the disc.

How the hell can I get this out . :oops:

I am really stuffed as I was just going to throw some pads into at work as Cant really afford a garage bill (until next year when I either...

It must have been well stuck (rusted into the hub) if it took a garage 90 minutes to get it out.

I always put a smear of copper grease on every wheel bolt & crack them off at leas every 6 months if not sooner.

Always crack them off if you have just had new tyres fitted or anything done to the car in a garage that would necessitate them removing...

My car's engine management light came on about a week ago, but the car was still running as normal, until the other day when the car refused to start, i eventually got the car going but once it had started it was making a loud rattling noise which became even louder also it startid making a loud...

first remove the airblower from the lefthand side of dash 3 screws (those funny star head screws) then just pulls out.
then remove the screws from the inside top centre and the right hand side of dash (they're a little awkward but do-able)
then you have to remove the cowling(cover) from the steering wheel 2 screws...

hi, has anyone covered replacing the xantia drivers side driveshaft please?

this is the long shaft with the intermeadiate bearing. I managed to replace the short N/S shaft about a year ago, is the O/S shaft any more complicated?

I had chronic wheel wobble owing to severely buckled wheels and now that the wheels and tyres have been replaced I am...

Thats a relief and replacing the shaft with an integrel bearing will save some fiddling about trying to pull the old bearing and replacing withn a new one.

Just for fun I asked my local citroen garage for a quote to do this this morning and they said £630 incl Vat, blimey if it came to that i'd look for another xantia.

Hi folks, weird question, but it is possible to dissolve or otherwise remove cooling system stop leak products, such as radweld or barrs stop leak?
I ask because my old man had a heater matrix leak in his Citroen Relay, apparently the matrix is hard to change, so he put some chepo stop leak product in, I think he may have done it wrong, or it’s a...

ive used soda chrystals before to clean one out!
That used to be OK with cast iron engines and copper heater matrices but now that aluminium is used extensively you MUSTN'T use washing soda.

Soda is alkaline and it attacks aluminium and dissolves it - the last thing you want with a dicky matrix!!

As some will know from a previous post I had the deaded clutch clip break. Replaced about 4 weeks ago, So far so good.

However I feel that this new one is straining ........I don`t know really as aint got a car to compare it with. Is there a poundage test for the pedal...I suppose not :lol:

Is there any way of telling that clutch is suss...

Hi again...

This car is proving more and more troublesome. Given up on air-con problem for now, but fixed door locking mechanism (lots and lots of WD40 sprayed into the gap around the electrical connector to the mechanism, and the motor came back to life after months of not moving at all).

Changed accumulator sphere yesterday to reduce ticking...

still that part No. is what you want to fix your reg leak,

i think these seals fail due to running a knackerd reg/acum sphere for to long, so the clicking jar's the hole reg which kills the O ring

whats left of finger is doing fine, its the next one along which is still quite swa finger, as i took all the skin off the inside...

I got a new exhaust (pattern part) for my Xsara Picasso 1.8i petrol 51 reg from ebay here is a pic of it ,need to know on pic does that little pipe I marked red fit into cat, if so the one I got did not so I cut it off, my old one I took off was the same without the little pipe sticking out, just now it seems to be blowing a bit,

hi there,ive got a 2002 1.8 petrol C5 SX
i had run the car low on petrol (computer showed about 20 miles left) before filling up
the next day the car was idleing roughly and was giving a hesitation on acceleration

if you accelerate very gently its nearly alright but trying to pull away normally gives a hesitation and loss of power.

For some time past, the driver's window switch has been iffy on UP. Of course, unlike every other window, this is the one and only switch for the window that gets opened/closed most frequently! :roll:

I've tried to remove the plastic switch-panel from the door but something is holding the bottom RH corner. From previous posts there's said to be...

Hi,
I wondered if dropping the top engine mounting and letting engine down would give more accessablity to the tensioner area.? The bolt holes are there to fit the manual tensioner too, so why didn't cit keep on with that type.?

There should be no need Greg, at least there was no need on the 2.1TD. Provided you can get to the large bolt (which will be hiding behind the bottom hose), you'll be able to get the tensioner out.

The real tricky one to get at is the lower spring Allen bolt which has to be accessed through a hole in the HP pump casting. A long ball-ended Allen...

Hi Mike, my immediate though is a blocked air intake? I don't think you've got a fuel restriction as black smoke means too much.

I stuff rag into inlets all the time and live in fear that I'll do the same as you one day although I use blue paper. One day though, I'll have confetti flying out of the exhaust, I just know it :D :D

When I purchased my car in March 06, they came with the worst front brakes you have seen - pads almost to the backing, and the discs were so corroded they were beginning to collapse inward where they are ventilated.
Naturally I had them replaced at the earliest opportunity.

However, 3 years later and 25000 miles and the brakes are knackered again...

I usually get approx 20/25 thousand from a set of front pads but have not had the disc's wear at the rate talked about here - the original front disc's on my xantia Hdi were changed when they reached their wear limit at 145,000 miles - the replcement disc's (Eicher from ECP) are now 35,000 miles old and still ok
