Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

On the C5 the lower rear wishbone bush is or should be a force fit onto the wishbone, Citroen recommend the use of a tool which sets the correct angular relationship between the bush and arm during the fitting operation, this is so that the bush is correctly torqued when the suspension is at correct ride height, presumably under these conditions...

Standing front ride height (normal setting, motor running) is presently about 28½ from ground to underside of wheelarch.

Measured way back when it was 25 7/8 inches. With an extra two and a bit inches of ride, no wonder it feels odd now! The front eye bolts are RFT - not just FT! And they're installed back to front, with the bolt head forward....

the threaded securing ring that holds the low pressure pump into the fuel tank has split. The replacement I got from my local dealer ( a citroen main dealer) has the same part no as the split one but is too small to go on and that is even with the pump and seal out of the way, have I got a rouge part or is there a need to warm this part up to make...

This a most difficult operation. I have removed one or two, certainely after removing te same ring twice it is near impossible to replace. I agree with wheeler, you should not have to heat it. Try one from a breakers yard- it has worked for me

On my C5 every time I press the key fob to unlock the car the boot pops open and so I have to shut it before getting in! Then when I arrive at my destination I cant open the boot without first locking and then unlocking the car. Have tried sycronising the key fob by removing then replacing the battery, then inserting in and turning on ignition...

This has been happening for some time,what it is...when the cars been standing few hours i notice the rear suspension will sink to its lowest point,even when the car is in normal ride height,then when you start the engine,after a few seconds theres a strange groaning noise and the front of the car drops,then the car levels off and everything seems...

I'm pretty sure the correction of the height comes from the accumulator - the anti sink sphere is on the 'corrected' side of the pressure, so can't provide a pressure reserve. I posted a long explanation of the A/S system at the bottom of page 1 of his thread:

mostly gleaned from Gabor's guide, I have to say....! Plenty of room to debate it...

VERY EASY!

With your ORIGINAL KEY, put it in the ignition and switch it on so all the woarning lights come on...

THEN with the New plip, point it at the Dome and repeatidly press the FORWARD button (Neareast the LED at the front) for about 15 seconds, just keep pressing it repeatidly..

IF it doesn't work do it with JUST the battery...

The engine coolant fan keeps coming on sometimes even when the engine is cold, it stays on for about 15 minutes even after switching engine off. Is this a sensor problem?, I could do with pointing in the right direction. Its the 2005 face lift Lx version. 1.6 HDi C5, this is driving me up the wall. The temp gauge never shows over heating.

A peculiar problem with my Citroen Xsara 1.4i forte (X'reg) saloon.

From cold, it's fine. After about 10 miles or so, it fairly consistently has a bit of a sulk and the engine runs fast, at about 1800-2000 rpm, which stays there if you depress the clutch. This causes the engine to apparently misfire, or at least it shudders a bit. After a minute...

I hate 'isle of Anglesey', too! Anglesey is old Norse for 'Ongul's Island'. So 'isleof Anglesey' translates as 'the island of Ongul's island'. Not very sensible. The Council are too thick to realise - or care.

Hi

I have just taken delivery of an 52 plate Xsara Picasso. There is a button on the dashboard that is not identified in the handbook.

It is opposite the central locking button and has an upward facing arrow above a downward facing arrow with a cross between them. When pressed the button lights up but I cannot find anything happening.

Sam, any GSF branch will be able to give your engine number if you give them your reg number. Its listed under your chassis number on our webcat program :wink:

I live in Australia, and if you say Citroen at most places they will look at you dumb, and if you then say BX they have no idea what you are going on about. So I was wondering if someone either knew if the rims off a different type of car could fit and if so what (I heard a Ford Escort with four studs could work).

Hi ,
The scuttle in my 1997 Xantia has been butchered by it s former keeper .
A new Scuttle from my dealer is £85.59 + vat .
I have sourced from my local scrapyard an series 2 scuttle .
Will this fit ?
is it possible to take the series 2 scuttle out without breaking it ?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated .

My '97 TD had that same bracing bar and it was an S1.
I think that all Xantia's had the bar but on S2's the scuttle trim had a cut out, presumably to make the trim a better fit.

My '94 Xantia had no bracing bar or cutout, it was just one of the many differences between the two identical cars I had :)

I have a problem with my CC,
If I have the fan in auto and the temp setting in HOT the fan only blows slowly but I do get heat from it,
if I lower the temp a bit it blows cold air and the fan speeds up
the blower works fine in manual but still not that hot.
is this down to the litle fan in the dash (the one above the radio) as I beleave this is...

Hi my xsara only starts when i take the positive terminal off the battery and then replace it, it will then start and i can restart it for about half an hour then i have to repeat the process again, the battery is brand new and this problem only started a couple of days ago?

I have a citroen c5 and at the end of september the gears started playing up. the garage told me it was the gear cables (both) and that they had ordered them. They got told it would be the 24th october when theyd be delivered, which has been and gone and no cables. Now...

Hi there

I have a 2006 facelift model C5 VTX+, the reference number on the top of the headlamp is X3 H7 H1 DTG - does this mean it is a xenon bulb?

As far as I can see when the car is on main beam the main light on the nearside doesnt work and also it does not appear as though the nearside front side light works either.

Am I right in assuming...

I managed to do it yesterday, it was the drivers side so not too easy to get too. Though ive got to say i also pulled the wires gently to remove the bulb holder.

Got the new bulb yesterday and fitted it, was a bit of a fiddle finding the hole but easier with the lights turned on.

All lights now working again :)

I don't normally have much difficulty freeing bolts like this, the impact driver normally wins but not this time.

It's a Torx30 bolt on the injection pump I'm currently dismantling.

I've left penetrating oil soaking overnight from the back of the thread though there's no sign of it being seized through corrosion. Normally I would perservere...

For some reason the dial that diverts the fan air-flow between the windcreen/face/feet etc makes no changes when its rotated. the air comes straight out the vents on the dash only. So its virtualy impossible to demist the windscreen - which is really dangerous this time of year... there is resistance when you turn the dial, and viewed from below...

Not sure about the Xsara, but if the Xantia is anything to go by, the moving cable is the white outer sheath of the cable that’s escaped from its clamp at the control end.
You will need dismantling a bit to reattach it.

I had a new clutch fitted 2 months ago, i was driving along when my clutch just suddenly went. I can only get it in gear when the engine is off, the clutch pedal is nearly to the floor

dose the XANTIA heater blower spinn the oposite direction to one from a PUG 406 (both cars with air con ),

as i have just borrowed the blower copmplete with speed control pack from a 406, it runs fine through the speeds but there aint much blow comming out of any of the vents,

or it there a heater box direction flap servo not functioning,

today i droped the P reg PUG 406 fan unit back out of my XANT to compaire the fan and motor direction, both fans have direction arrows embossed on thear nose cone, the pug one not only spinns the opposite direction but the finns face the other way to,

so i pulled the motor and impeller out of both fan units and stuck the XANT one back in, BONGO...

The garage have just told me that my Turbo seals have gone on my C5 estate 05 Reg and only 30,000 miles. Couple of questions? Why would it go at such a low mileage and do I have any comeback on citroen?
Also, is this a complete turbo replacement and what kind of costs am I looking at?

Porche are saying 30k for the boxer now, a mate of mine is rebuilding an accident damaged one and tbh giving a performance engine (no mater how clever the bores are at holding oil 30k is just stupid, i do mine at 1500miles ish now im down to 3-4k a year in the xm but for a properly used car on mainland journeys coving 10-15k a year i wouldnt leave...

Ok folks, I have a couple of questions here about some spark plugs.
I inherited four NGK R with the code ZGR5A on them. They are brand new with the little screw-on caps on the end. I have no idea what car the are suitable for, so is there any way of doing a look-up on them somehow?

Judging by how popular Xantiae were throughout Europe between 1995 and
2000 I expected more than the figure I read - don't know how accurate it is

Nope, didn't hit anything at all.
The hose is the big fat one and it came off at the front of the engine. Maybe it was just loose, I don't know. It hasn't happened since though but that starting shake is a bit annoying.

Just to get your attention...................

With my 2000 Xantia 90Hdi it seems that the fuel consumption I return is independent of the type of driving.

Long trips (12 hours virtually continuous on french motorway when going to UK) or short trips in France, always between 53 and 56mpg.

fortunately it is not an HDi.

what I cant get over is the ignition is far better from a cold start much less cranking is required.

As the weather gets colder I'm noticing that the push-button to undo the rear hatch is sticking 'in'. After being pressed, it takes up to a minute to return to fully 'out'.
Am I going to need to take off a panel inside the lid and get at the button that way (applying grease) or can I get away with some WD40 sprayed from outside? I'm always wary...

I had same problem with the Xantia's rear hatch button a few years ago. IIRC, gave it a quick spray with WD40, and problem instantly solved. Problem has not returned, but if it does, I'll be happy to use a little more WD40.

For awhile now when driving down the motorway if i accelerate at a high speed it would pull to the right very quickly. However last week i came out from park and it was making a clonk sound , which got alot worse to the point it was clonking loudly when i turned the wheel to the left.

Hi,
Back again with the old Xantia,

My Xantia's decided to dump all it's LHM on the driveway. I suspect it's one of the rubber pipes that goes to the LHM tank (I recently had a dodgy garage burst one of them while replacing a clutch).

Is there anything I need to look out for when removing the LHM tank and will I need to have the car on...

Well I will try to explain.....

The front and rear anti sink valves are the same unit, we get lots of leaks with the front only and never the rear one!

My theory and it is only a theory is that the valve being made from ally and the cap with the O ring inside is made from steel, due to the heat from the engine bay (the front one is located below...

Hi all,

The steering pinion leaks, and I can’t fiddle with that myself, so took the car to a steering place referred by the Citroën dealer.
He’s never worked on a Xantia rack, and says that the pinion doesn’t come out of the body.
That is, the pinion assembly, item 5 in the picture, is out of the rack, but the pinion proper isn’t coming out of...

Just got new Bosch fuel filter for my Activa. I've not changed it in my ownership, and speaking to Jim, it was something he didnt do either, so its at a minimum of 3 years old!

I'm sure my current one is metal, this new one from GSF is plastic. Does anyone know when this change might of taken place? And also, what is the service interval ?

My fan is no longer working as well as it used.

It is not the usual blower problem as the work on all settings but not as good.

I think i need to replace the bushes on the motor on the blower as anyone done this :?:

i know the cable to my recirculation flap must be kinked as the slide control springs back a bit after moveing it,

this has always done this since i have owned this Xant, and i have had a good blow from my heater vents,

When I brake, especially with force, I get a sharp judder a through the brake pedal and a pull to the left side. Is this due to air in the system, possibly on the left side brake?
When the brakes have been just used, they seem to perform a little better and the judder comes in more toward the end of the brake pedal travel.

Hi, my 2002 2l diesel estate c5 has not been able to start 3 times. Mechanics cant find fault because by time I tow to garage its started to work again. No fault codes, good continuity of cable from relay to elec pump, fuel pump relay is clicking, fuse is good.

Any ideas?

check the 16 pin grey connector on the under bonnet fusebox, this is where the fuel pump feed comes out, the pins can over heat & cause connection problems. have a look at the pins on the fusebox carefully & check to see if any of them have a blue coloured coating (cant remember the pin no off hand), clean the pin & re fit & see if it works then.

There's been a horrible squeaky noise coming from the general area of the alternator belt on my ZX since I put it back together as well as the occasional squeal of the belt slipping. At first I figured it was the belt tensioner bearings knackered.
