Getting key blades out of Xantia fobs?

Unread post by Stekelly »

I need to swap the blades around in a couple of my keys, SI IR and SII RF. My only issue is getting the blades out. Does the metal pin pop out with a tap of a hammer on a punch or what way do they come out? Cheers.

On the S1 IR FOB (not sure about the RF fob), the rivet is actually 2 half rivets which clip together in the middle.

Use a screwdriver between the blade and the case to spread the case about 2mm, and the rivet should come apart.

If the rivet won't split (usually they don't) then to avoid mashing up the plastic fob around the pivot point drill out one side/cap of the rivet and fit a new one IIRC they only cost about a £1 new.

Got one of my spare keys apart after a bit of fiddling. so gave all th ecrevasses a nice clean.

Next question is where would I go about getting a new blank keyblade for an IR keyfob? One key doesnt work on the ignition as it was changed so need a new blade. I assume it needs to come with the roundish plastic part on it and the blade cant be swapped out of it , so its a main dealer item? Cant find anything on Ebay that isnt just for the normal key

I have inquired to my local Citroen dealer about this. He gave me figures without looking at anything, so no doubt not at all bothered to be of real help - as I usually find, however: He said a new blade is £50, whether it is cut or not!

I asked at a local locksmiths who said they don't do them but gave me the number of a mobile person who does. I will give him a ring and see if it is possible that they can be sourced out of the dealer.

Read the key code with a micrometer then ask the dealer to order against code from factory.
Plip blanks are Citroen only.
Details were posted somewhile ago.
Cost is typically £20.
A few dealers actually cut cruciform keys but not many.
At least they have the correct cutting machine, unlike most general locksmiths who usually have to reposition blade for all 4 cuts.

Those blades you have found on ebay are for the later version of the Citroen/PSA 2 button RF plip.
I have a set on one of the XM's but had swap the entire plip (fobs and receiver) and lock set to get it installed and working.

Hi Dave

As I remember there are 2 slightly different case versions.
One is for an IR version used on most of the smaller cars.
The other is a slightly thinner RF version used on the larger/later cars.
Each type uses a unique printed circuit board so they cannot be swapped between plip cases.
That restriction applies to the different looking RF plips (and all IR ones).
So an ebay empty case is only any use where you want to replace an existing damaged case.
Reprogamming RF plip sets is an order of magnitude more difficult than IR ones. Virtually all attemps fail.
A chinese clone RF plip set can be obtained for around £25.
Key type needed will depend on chinese plip set design.
These usually need a bit of wiring work to comply with the non standard Citroen implementation of RF locking.
There are a few posts on the XM sites about using the chinese kits.

The blades in my RF fob from my SII Xantia have a larger rounder plastic top on them, I havnt seen them anywhere at all. The one on my SI IR fob has a rectangle plastic head that looks about twice as long as the one in Daves link.

I've reprogrammed several S2 RF keys using my Lexia and not had a problem.

Were they XM S2 ones with rolling code protection?
Or were they 4 digit immobiliser coil protected type?
