Xantia HDI 110 Fuel Filter

Hi all!

Some jobs before my MOT me thinks... I'm going to replace the fuel filter - but have read some interesting stories about the problems this may cause.. Is it recommended to replace the whole housing? Is it not possible to just remove the housing and clean it out before fitting a new filter & reinstalling? Did I read somewhere the housings warp due to pressure - another reason for replacement?

Mine is the type with two clip on pipes on the top - Bosch I think.

Some people have mentioned that swarf can get passed the filter and destroy the high pressure pump, due to a poor filter design. You could always place an in-line filter after the main filter for peace of mind.
On my previous Xantia I replaced the filter system with an in-line one, I think there are some comments on the forum about it.

A young fitter looking over whilst I got this car started told me the magnet was fitted to the fuel pipe to catch any metallic particles that got past the filter, how true that is I've no idea, not something I've come across before. Gibbo.

I read they rarely seal properly after a new filter is installed too :?:

Oh well - just done some searching - and found a replacement housing & filter for around 38 quid - so I think I'll err on the safe side!

Gonna replace my P bushes - engine oil - oil / air / pollen filters - pop in some Hydraflush - check out my pads & discs. Quit a bit to do :lol:

That would (might!) only work if the particles were ferrous.

I believe that the swarf is golden colour which implies brass or bronze alloys - neither of which are magenetic.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.
