What brand spheres??

Are they all pretty similar?

Anyone got any horror stories/brands to avoid?

Citroen multi membrane ones are probably the best, but the most expensive.
Amtek are cheap and do the job very well, some people have reported they've had the odd duff one, but most of us haven't had a problem.
Plaeides regassed should be as good as Citroen's just a bit older.
Unknown regassed ones, I'd avoid, I was sold some before I knew about Amtek spheres from GSF, and they lasted no time at all and cost just as much.

I had 2 Amteks recently on the front, seem fine.

With the £10 postage they're around what I was paying for amtek from GSF.
I'd look now but because they've changed their website and it's a bit poo. I still haven't had my registration confirmation through yet.

I've never had a problem with GSf Amtex sphere's, I recently pressure checked some which have been on the car 10 1/2 years and the greatest loss of pressure on any of them was just 2 Bar, not bad!!

How many miles had those covered though? If it has sat for most of those 10 years then pressure should be good, if its done 100K in that time im sure a lot more than 2 bar would have escaped.

Just noticed your avatar pic DickieG, is that your DS?
My dad used to have a few DS's back in the early 70's.

I'd love a really nice one, but they ain't cheap anymore and the thought of running one through the British winter scares me off!

Running a DS through winter would be classed as sacrilege

Mind, I don't even run our XMs through the winter and my Activa won't be seeing the salt either.

Ive got a pair of those in the Ebay link, they apper to be good value so far!

AEP Glasgow (CitroenServices) on ebay, also supply very good Spheres IFHS or something, and Ive never had bad ones from them either.

anyone know Shaftec spheres? the "mechanic" I used put these on (actually turned out they didn't need to be changed)

Try Westroen for Original Citroen spheres that are re-gassed, & they come with a 3yr warranty which is an extra year over a brand new citroen one

If memory serves, that doesn't cover pressure loss though, only failure.

Im yet to be impressed with these, having bought two cars with them recently fitted the pressures were all over the place, some lower than they should be and others much too high, neither car felt quite right.

I usually go for genuine Citroen ones, Im yet to actually need to by any aftermarket ones as we did have a healthy stock, but its now fairly depleted.

Also, Im trying to get hold of some sphere regassing nipples as we have run out, though no one seems to make them anymore! Apparently there are too many cheap spheres to warrant regassing now. Not in my opinion, cheap ones are cheap and seem to ride differently. I used the last of our regassing bolts on my Activa.

When my dad did his Citroen specialist business he used to fit spheres which owners provided, he had a few problems with them, popping as soon as the pressure built up, hard riding etc. So he then only fitted genuine Citroen spheres, which is how we got a bit of a stock.

Really need to find some regassing bolts/nipple
