Post by davoxx »

a fuel pump was swapped on a 110hp hdi, and now it won't run :)
is there anyway i can code the pump to work with the new ecu?

this is not my problem - but i thought i'd ask =)

I don't think that you don't code a pump to the ECU.

Was it running before the pump swap & if so why did you change the pump ?

i did not change it :D

as far as i understand it was running badly - low pressure or something (details are vague) so the pump was taken from a running car, but this did not work in other car.
why?

Doh! to put it another way the pump is not coded to the ECU, bear in mind that there several versions of HDi pump's so make sure the part numbers match.

I don't think the HP pump in an HDi plays much part in immobalising the car.

Was it an exact replacement? Same part number etc.

Edit: Must type faster. Or is it great minds think alike?

The pump either Pumps or not!!

They are NOT coded or anything!

Ive swapped pumps with no problem or ecu coding needed.

What is VERY likely on the pump fitted is the valve on the END of the pump, up against the fuel filter determinds if the fuel flows or not, like a stop solinoid on the older XUD pumps... it has a circular body and the connection points downwards... this controls the fuel flow to the rail..

Low pressure would not be caused by the pump, they either "Pressurise" or do nothing...

cheers, i'm guessing i'm being told a half truth so.

i have heard from a Citroen dealer that the fuel pump is coded to the ecu ... but he did seem kinda dodgy.

The dealer will tell you all that bull!

I fitted a Xsara HDi 90 engine to a Xantia HDi 110, ONLY swapping the turbo and inlet, and it went striaght away NO coading or any messing... and that was the Xsara Pump and injectors that was a 90 bhp!

The engine has now done 249k!!!! Although the pump gave out at 180k after 100k of service... then I fitted a pump to another HDi 110 Xantia, that also went straight off aswell..

Ah, now thats a different story, XUD Fuel pumps ARE Tied to the ECU, but only IF you do not know the Keypad code. As for S2 pump on XUD engines then thats a different matter altogether.

HDi "pumps" ARE NOTHING like XUD Pumps.. Infact, they are only a Fuel Rail pressureiser!! HDi engine "pumps" are NOT pumps, hence needing a lift pump in the tank.

So that story IS Correct..

ahh cheers for clearing that up :)

i only had half the story, so i guess the car is not a 2.0 110 hp HDi.

Thanks!!

If you get the reg of the car, we can confirm engine type (Xu or DW) from the CC's...
