Reinforced Michelin Primacy HP for C5?

Post by GB »

After 37000 miles it is almost time to replace the front Michelin Primacy HP's - very happy with their performance and wear (the rears are still OK, good for another 10K miles at least).

I was thinking of getting the reinforced type this time - anyone with any experience with them? The standard HP's feel a little soft for my liking, but on the other hand I don't want to end up with harsh ride and too much steering wheel feedback. Is there a very noticeable difference in handling between the two?

Hi there,

I have a C3 VTR which had Primacy HPs as standard 195-50x16s. Last time I went for replacements I was told that they could no longer get the 84 rating tyres , only 88s (stiffer) were available. Might be worth speaking to your tyre supplier.

Wow, 37K miles from your front Michelins, thats very impressive! I have just replaced the front ones on my C5 at 18K miles, less than half your mileage. The rears are now on the front and probably have 10K miles left in them.

I wouldn't go for extra load tyres, they are not needed on the C5 and would no doubt effect the ride and the steering kickback over bumps. I like the standard Michelin HPs, they suit the C5s very well.

I did think about them for our C5 estate, as it carries an awful lot of load. I didn't as I didn't want to effect the ride or steering feel, they have been great with the upper tyre pressures.
