Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I've never been without a Citroen for the last 20 odd yeras, first off a GS1220 estate named Claude (who looked like he had been, and looked like a weird ladybird with chocolate brown primer over Geranium Red), then a red 1220 GS saloon, followed by 2 GSA, then my 2CV pickup 9home made, don't get excited), then Reg my 2CV...

Most definitely. I used to drive Austin/Morris 1100s a lot, sort of bargain basement Hydropneumatic with a wheel at each corner (this was just before the first GS), and the Xantia feels very like those, but without the bounce. haven't had chance to drive another well known and interesting road yet, that will be this weekend.

Got an odd one on our Picasso.... It's got a rattle in the NSF somewhere - but it only happens when you've got a passenger in! It sounds like it's right at the top of the suspension under the dash / windscreen. It might have started after the wheel bearing was replaced - can't be sure as I didn't drive it much before the WB change, and the bearing...

hi chaps as above really trying to piece back together the engine on a xantia 2.0 HDi 2001

Got most of it back together but its all the little tubing and brackets that i cant figure out.

I havent worked on these before and i recieved this car in a dismantled state.

If anyone would be as kind to take a few pictures of there bay with the cover...

Hi,
If the heater hoses from matrix ( felt from engine compartment ) are hot at both sides, are there other things that can be wrong.?
The heater control sllder doesn't seem to do much, nor does the recirculating/ fresh air control. I had to do the gearwheel drop down job on the cabin to demister cable a while ago. I seem to remember something...

Hi,
I changed thermostat today- made a bit of difference, but not as much as I had hoped, but better than it was, so I will live with it. At least it won't take as long to demist windows. There is a new radiator in car, so that will be more efficient at cooling the water than an older one. Can't see the bleeder on matrix pipes-I will need to find...

Does anyone know if the pipes that go onto the heater matrix on a xantia td are shared with any of the other citroens or peugeots ?. There appears to be a small leak from it and last time I touched one it more or less disintegrated in my hand !.

Hi I had the same prob, if you have the hose you can seperate the plastic section, all the hoses are different on most of the vehicles if you go to s scrap yard find one that will fit into the matrix and use the old hose and connect them to the new unit bu using jubilee clips, the right diameter can be found by going to b&q and finding the section...

If the battery is disconnected on V6 for any length of time how does ecu reprogramme itself. My battery was out but all seems ok AFAIK.

Have heard people speak about taking it on motorway and maintaining certain revs/speed.

Is this a C5 then all you do is push one of the sides of the clip and it will unhook. once you get the knack its simple. I only found this out after paying 80 (or was it 60) quid to the Citroen Dealer in Dundee who assured me they had to take the front off.

Hi All,

I have just checked my oil and there is lots of scum / goo in the oil filler cap and also all the way up the Oil Stick. Its thick and its a whitey brown colour (reminds me of melted ice cream with chocolate sauce colour!)

I had the oil changed a year ago, so i guess it needs changing again. Is it anything to worry about?

My wife inerited the inlaws Xsara earlier this year and has decided that the original cassette player needs to be swapped for a CD player.

A few questions, what type of removal tool is used to get the old one out, is it the same as Fords/Vauxhalls etc, where you use the U-shaped pullers on either side (she has the car at work, so I can't look at...

Any aftermarket radio will work on any Xsara if you follow the instructions in the above link. You will loose the info from the radio on the display & the steering wheel remode controls but you will still have Clock, date, door open info etc.

Ordinary Xsara 1.4 on a 51 plate. I want to change the radio cassette to radio cd player. The read out is a small panel above the unit and it also has the remote on the steering column.

I have been talking to Citroen tech service and they say they will sell me a unit but wont guarantee it will work! Also if I buy, they will not refund any money...

My Xantia is fitted with the Webasto cold weather auxillary heater and this has worked fine since I bought the car. However , looks like it's decided not to work now ! Does anyone know how it's activated so I can start fault finding ?

BTW the heater is not a Webasto, its a Eberspacher D3W which is a variation on the ones fitted to VW T4 vans and Sharans/Galaxy's.

hi i've been looking for some better headlights for my xantia as i think my low beam are completly useless, at the min i'm running standard headlights with 100w bulbs (as i know i cant put hid's in the standard lamps as they have the pattern on the glass not reflector/projector style) and i've removed the shields (i found a thread on here some...

As I read things, it is the other way around KoKo. Need to sqaure the power to double the Lumens. 100W is not much brighter than 55W, as well as much the filament being out of prime focus... could produce LESS focussed light on the scene in fact (but a lot more scattered light and dazzle).

Can I have a few pointers, please? It’s a series 2 1999 Xantia 2 litre petrol.

The ABS light has just come on. For a few trips it has behaved haphazardly, sometimes on then going off or coming on and staying on.
My first thoughts are to check the wheel sensors. I am assuming that it should be possible to read some value of resistance to check for...

i havent done a TU3 16V cam belt yet but the 8V TU lump is very very easy, so easy you dont even need to jack up the O/S/F and remove the wheel, it can all be done from the top,

for the 8V TU lump you just need one of the tools i mentioned earlier to adjust the tensioner, and also a 13mm bolt (10mm shank)
at least inch and a half long to peg the cam sprocket, and a length of cunifer brake pipe (maybe knicked of a neghbours E**ORT ),

this is for peging the flywheel trough the hole in the cranck case,

then the rest is...

How easy is it to change the brakes and brake discs on a c5. Easy for a novice or not?

NEw one has a few niggles, Door and window but runs okay. Not running it yet. Will get photos up. Identical, wish is wasn't, even if it was just anoterh colour, just for something different but colour is the least of it really. Otherwise seems okay. Much tighter and firmer.

Hi,

Had my head gasket replaced on Xsara 2000 1.4 a few months a go. Its gone again, although I have got the garage to check the head and they stated no warps, cracks. I have replaced fan sensor, water pump looks fine, radiator cap, thermostat. It over heated for no reason I could work out and suddenly the heating in the car went cold, and then...

Had my clutch/diff changed recently.. However just lately the gearstick refuses to go into reverse :x

Not without some pumping or force no

My diagnosis would be that there was something wrong with the gear linkages. The linkages need to be disconnected to remove the gearbox, they can get bent when they are being removed ant its not unheard of for garages to forget about them...

Hi

Just bought a Witter towbar for my Xsara - a 2003 model. It came with a 'standard' electric wiring kit - by the looks of it you just tap into the rear loom to take power as per cars from old.

However, is this correct? The place I bought it from said it would do the trick but I've also heard that later P2's need a bypass box as they are...

I am having trouble finding purchase - according to searches on this site, they're T30.

Are they tamperproof Torx, or do you just have to hold the driver at a funny angle?

Wanting to install the steering angle sensor.

It was somewhat fiddly, but all good now. The airbag/horn pad was all but impossible to perfectly align with the relief in the steering wheel (as before removal). Nothing serious, but enough to cause passing vexation to the fussy!

Hardest thing I found, was undoing the mounting catches for the clockspring connector plugs, on the column further...

Hi there Citroen people!,

Ive recently acquired (for the princely sum of £0!) a tidy x reg xantia hdi 90.

however the engine light is permanently on, but performance seems fine.

what might be the issue here? I.E what can I check on it, perhaps a sensor? (if so which ones are the likely culprits)

I'm new to Citroen ownership. and this forum. The Depollution system warning lamp came on this afternoon while I was driving. It now stays on all the time. It says in the handbook Urgently consult a Citroen dealer .
What is the Depollution system and what potential problems could be afflicting it?

While I agree with Wheeler. With the C5 it can sometimes cure those faults by disconnecting the battery for 30 mins, & then reconnecting - this can sometimes reset the computer. I don't suppose the C4 is very much different, may be worth trying before you spend any money.

I have a little problem with my friend's C2. She has lost her wedding ring 'down the dashboard' - I think in either the center or driver side vents.

She also lost a pound coin too so as you can see it's a crisis (we're Scottish!)

So I'll be going over this weekend to attempt a recovery but I want to ask those who may know is there is a likely...

I bought a '99 2.0 Hdi a few weeks ago, I have to say not the comfiest Xantia I've driven and then today after performing a few Citrobics, as suggested on another recent post to maybe expell any air in the system, the rear suspension decided it would settle in either the High or Low position and not the Mid/driving one. HELP. The 4 corner spheres...

I aint got a spare for car. Is this wheel specific to V6 or ANY other xantias have it?. Must admit it is brill to be able to centre the wheel on when fitting.......sooo much easier. I`ve heard about the balance issues although these wheels are newish aftermarket.

The balance thing may be why they were changed in the first place.

hi new here,

the above happened to my xantia its a X reg 110bhp HDi i have been told that the pistons are shot and every rocker is broken.

so am looking for an engine only thing is i dont understand the engine codes...i dont know which mines is and what HDi engines will fit.

my engine number is DYCS4008105 can anyone tell me the actuall engine...

Thats the parts just ordered now, went to euro car parts counter tonight after work only to find it was £30 more expensive to purchase over the ECP counter than it was to buy it from their website :(

Hi All,
Does anyone know what the correct headlight height settings are for the Xantia.

A long time ago when the BOL's were worth more than the paper they were printed on, they used to have a headlight setting diagram which first instructed you to park the vehicle in question so far from a wall, and had a series of measurements for both height...

My xantia's 2.0i automatic gearbox is out of order. The rear gear stuk permanent.
From the Citroen dealer here in Cyprus, they told me that this could not be fixed and is better to replace it with a new one.

morning guys,so yesterday i went to do the accumulator and the 2 front spheres on my newest xantia,i seriously doubt they have been changed since they were factory fitted as there is no travel in the front and the ride is as hard as the road ,back end is fine for now until i get a few more quid together

depressurised the system,attempted to turn...

:D got the fronts done but then it started to rain so i took her for a little drive...and WOW :lol: ..amazing is all i can say ,if this is how beautiful she drives with just the fronts changed i cant imagine how comfortable it would be with the other 4 spheres,ramps and speed bumps no longer noticeable .. :lol:

Has anyone experienced a stuck or seized in cigarette lighter on a MK1 Xantia and if so how did you free it ?

Mine is solid in there and some kind soul at work has just given me a make sure your driving safely speed camera scanner...but i cant plug it in :roll:

My V6 one was pretty well stuck together but in the opposite sense to yours Vince. It will not go fully in so useless for it's intended purpose and if you try, it gets stuck fast.

I was able to tease it out and then hide it.

Best bet is, as said, remove the complete ashtray and replace it from a scrapper or at least with teh assembly out it is...

How much LHM do you think the tails hold in dead ends of brake circuits.

I bled about half a jam jar out of each brake bleed nipple.

Including the pipes do we think more or less is needed?
