C5 vs Laguna Interior - FAO Luke

Post by Citroenmad »

To avoid taking the spotted thread even more off topic, here is a new one to follow on from Lukes discussion about the LagunaII vs the C5:

Lukes Laguna:

Here is a better picture of a C5 interior Luke, from my C5II:

I don't mind the cream interior in your V6 too much, the darker interiors look more modern and they are easier to live with. My uncle has a C5 Exclusive of a similar age to mine, it has a cream interior and its reall awful and ages the car. It was for sale when I was looking but I avoided it and dropped a trim level to the VTR to have a dark interior! Plus, I dont like leather seats.

This is the window which displays the speed set to the cruise control, the set speed replaces the three hashed lines and the 'off' dissapears. On the C5I there is no such warning of cruise speed.

The C5 has a bit more space inside do you think? Especially in the rear legroom area and the boot is sizeable. Quality wise I think they stand the test of time well (apart from some steering wheels which suffer), our 132K mile C5 is still very tidy inside and everything works as it should do. I like both the LagunaII and C5. I get the feeling in a Laguna that its more snug, possibly more edged towards sportier feeling. The C5 feels massive, the hugely wide and high dash is something I really like, I also like the shape of it and the use of different colours and materials - something lacking from an XM of a Xantia dash.

Maint hing I like about it is the room despite me being quite tall I can easily sit behind my own driving position - so rear space is pretty good. There is lots of room in the front and the seats suit me well too. Shame the C5II lost its front armrests in favour of a lumber adjust but really I prefer that, I didn't use the armrests that often anyway but it would be nice to have both.

A nice and pointless thread

Given the choice between a C5 and Laguna II, I'd pick the Laguna II every time, even the Meguna (Megane fronted Laguna), but not the Maguna (Mazda fronted Laguna), what they've done to it with the last shape is shockingly bad.

I looked at Lagunas when I was buying my last car, they have torsion beam rear suspension, the C5 has indepentent swing arms. There was also the problem that some Renault diesel engines seemed to have where they'd run on their own engine oil.

I bought a C5.

Not very constructive to this discussion I know, but IMHO they're both naff.

Design is 'my thing' and for a while I worked in Ford's UK Interior
Design/styling studio and I be ashamed to be remotely associated
with either of these even if they have superb ergonomics and the tactile
vibes from living with them are brilliant - they're just a clumsy mess.

And what's this thing about naff chrome rings on the instruments and digi
dash's that you can't see the mileage when you're kicking tyres looking
at secondhand cars...

everything went pearshaped when big fat windbags took over the elegant
and safe single spoked wheels - I'm so glad I don't work at Ford still now,
it'd be very depressing.

Please tell me you had nothing to do with the bloated escort interior?
I had the displeasure of driving one for a week with its eye burning green instruments.
The exterier wasn't designed any better, couldn't drive in fog as the headlights spilt light directly up creating a white curtain in front that you couldn't see through.
Hopefully you showed them the errors of their way andrew :)

The only Ford interiors which I quite like (do I have to admit to this ) are the early Focus and the Ka - I can't think of any others which I like. A Escrot is certainly not one of them, have had the displeasure of driving one, thankfully I rarely see one now, they have fizzed away in the rain, same way as the Kas are going.

That was before my time although I did have my hand in bits of the M ondeo.
If there are any 'good' bits. To be fair, when it was being done it did feel
really good and a big way forward from what was on the market at the time

BTW, just remembered about the pm for the flag - I did do one but never
posted you it - sorry for being so rude - mind have been very preoccupied
lately and I wasn't intentionally ignoring you.

There is that, they can also start running on bits of turbo when that fails. If that doesn't kill it off, a top end bearing might see to it or maybe a crunchy gearbox. Shame really, as when they work the DCis are nice to use. I believe the 2.0DCi of more recent years is the one to have, which can be had in the later face lifted LagunaIIs.

I don't think I have heard about the Renault diesels running on their own oil actually, I thought Vauxhall/Fiat had that one covered with its 1.9CDTi.

For a modern diesel, its hard to beat a HDi

I do read alot about 1.9Dci engines failings but ours has been fantastic , coming up to five years of ownership now and 130k and still running sweet , I do like the 2.0 hdi 8 valve but compared to the 1.9 jtd in my old fiat doblo van (150k) it seems a little lazy , if I didn't have my van and the Zx16v I would have an Alfa Romeo 159 1.9 jtd lusso sat on the drive , I just can't part with the Zx though it's fab

How can you compare a HDi in a car to a DERV in a VAN! The van is much lighter so any engine will feel much more livly and sprightly in a van!

The failing DCi engines frighten me aswell, which is a shame as the Laguna 2 is a shape I do like...
They just DO NOT seem half as strong as the HDi... how about 255k on the SAME turbo!!

Andrew, you could have made that flag slightly larger ...

Paul, your right, excellently strong engines the HDis. Get a well looked after one and it should be one of the best modern diesels available.
