Service indicator resetting ?

Post by johntom »

Hi I have a 2004 C5 2.0 hdi which had the service spanner visible in the mileometer display. I followed the instructions in the handbook which removed the permanently visible 'spanner' near the mileometer, however the 'spanner' and the miles overdue is still there when the ignition key is first turned to pos 2? How do I reset this, as i have just serviced the car?

When you turn the key to position 2 the mileage shown is the distance left before the next service is due, hence why the spanner sign is shown at the same time.

I've got a similar problem, 2002 C5 HDI, I reset the service light and that seems ok but I still have the word 'service' lit up in the bottom of the rev counter, how do I put that out? G

That's not service in respect of oil change etc; that's service meaning that there's something wrong which has flagged up a fault code in the BSI.

You need to get the BSI read for fault codes and then fix whatever's wrong. Sounds easy but sometimes the error messages are less than helpful.

Thanks Paul, strangely I had an ex Citroen guy set all the codes back before I started work on this car and he was scratching his head about why it wouldn't go off.

I have though since replaced the maf and there's an airbag fault warning on the lcd. I'll sort the airbag fault then get him to have abither go with the fault codes.

The car's running good now and zipped through an mot yesterday. G.

Having the service light on can be for something as silly as low screen washer fluid although for it to remain on it can be something more serious...

You can normally find out which problem it is by selecting the last setting on the multi function display, I believe it's " Check Control" and holding down the end of the stalk for several seconds.
