Ok, here's a really weird one!

ZF 4HP14. Engine starts in PARK and DRIVE, no other positions. Reverse lights come on in NEUTRAL, no other positions.

Have disconnected cable & fiddled with the adjustment of that, all fine now.

Replaced the reverse/start inhibitor switch today, thinking that was at fault and same issues!!!

Is there anything else that I seem to have overlooked? Can anything internal slip or come out of adjustment???

Yes! the gear selector has (usually!) a set of switch contacts used for various other things like reverse lights like gear indicator.

This is even with removing the selector lever from the 'box and moving it thru the positions by hand
