Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Oh Christ what a day I've had.

So I was going from Ashford to Maidstone on the M20 at 2ish today. For the first few miles the snow had melted; the roads were a bit greasy, but driveable.
Then some miles down the road, a huge snowstorm brewed up. The road was suddenly covered in ice and visability was very low.
Wasn't going particularly fast...

I cant understand anyone ever wanting to disconnect their ABS, its crazy, its a very important safety feature which is quite rightly a requirement on any mass market car produced from late 2003 onwards.

The main objective is to allow you still to turn when braking hard. This is especially helpful in poor conditions such as rain, snow, ice etc....

I currently have a 97 td xantia. For the past 4 months the suspension is really stiff. ITS DRIVES LIKE A CAR THAT IS LOWERED AND HARDENED. I only own the car 6 months but the spheres were done oly 15k ago so im auuming its no them. Has any body got any idea what may be the cause and cure?

If they are GSF ones, there WILL be a DATE of Gassing on them...

If the Plastic clip HAS popped off you then need to find out why! And its useually often then NOT due to SIEZED Levers that control the height controller...

Theres two of them, one has the clip attached to it, the other is attached to the Rod thats attached to the lever inside the...

Hello again folks,

Just a quickie. I replaced my oil cooler in January 2009 (with a genuine part) but it looks like it has gone again!!!!!!

Is this possible and has anyone else experienced one going so quickly?

The main dealer has said that I can buy a new one at well over £100 and send the poss faulty one back for inspection and if found...

Hi sledge

Oil in the water is a regular problem on XM's with the 2.5TD engine. In that case it is difficult to be sure if it is head problems or the large aluminum oil cooler that has gone. If the oil cooler has failed then it is always oil passing into the coolant water. One way to check on this is to bypass the oil cooler using a short length...

Got back from picking Danielle up from work, Cassy was fine.
Just tried to start her to go and get new tyres and some essentials, the starter motor isn't turning at all.
Jim and I had this a couple of times with my old LX as we were breaking it, but never got to the bottom of it.
Any ideas?

Could be a simple case of lubing the shaft that the bendix runs on at the end of the starter motor....have had this happen a couple of times on Vauxhalls.

I'm having a run of significant failures with the return lines. They are cracking, either just inside the heatshrink bands or near the plastic tree connections.

Several things occur to me. Firstly, poor pressure regulation, either due a to duff pump or crook regulator, causing excess fluid flow in some instances. Secondly, engine bay heat...

Yes, that’s their favourite breaking place.
The safest way is to gently pinch them a good distance from the joints to get the ‘feel’ of them.
If they’re not outright ‘rubbery’, they’re at risk of splitting.

Be especially wary of the two hoses returning from the brake doser valve.
They’re hidden high up under the windscreen ledge, where it’s hot...

Found today that Cassy's rear heater switch isn't staying on, or even lighting up when pressed and held.
Her heater blower fan is working fine, and has the relax fix fitted.
Where do I start poking and prodding? :)

Have you had a look at the wires between the hatch and the roof were they pass to the car... if youve done a lot of hatch opening they could be open

Oh HOWEVER just an thought this second, I had a S2 Xantia in, on a T, which the rear heated screen didn't work..

I found the fault, the MAIN THINK feed wire that came OUT of the fuse box had a...

Having failed it's NCT (MOT) because the washer pump was not working . I decided to investigate the problem. I find two separate components are plugged into the windscreen water tank. One has three wires connected into it - no tubes connected, am I correct in thinking that this is the warning switch for low water level. The other is to the front...

Not as far as I am aware. Mine needs doing as it won't wash the tailgate screen.

I had the bumper off to sort the headlight out as I had dropped the retaining clip and a bulb, had to extract the headlight to get them out - except they were already gone*, had to buy a new clip.

Getting the bumper off is not as bad as it might first appear....

I think the bearings have gone on the hydraulic pump. It started whining 20 miles into a long journey, after 200 miles it turned into a scrapping metallic sound. It comes from front drivers side of the engine where the pump is though I suppose it could be anything in that area I find it hard to pin point it since the pump is still doing its job of...

Altinator Bearings too, I had a similar noise on a TD VSX Estate with Air con, I swapped pumps being rather confident with the Screw Driver Listening test it ws the pump..

Um... nope ............ Turned out to be the Altinator bearings were shot! Amazingly loud rough noise..

I dont think the Ump has a bearing does it? Its a Brass Cap/seal...

2002 c5 estate , problem is a buzzing noise coming from drivers side rear wheel arch, something like a relay sticking, cant see anything amiss, wondered if any of you techie types would have a clue what is. it's not very loud and happens even when the car is switched off and locked.

I have a 2002 2.0 hdi 110hp. Recently the car has started badly first thing in the morning.It starts for a second then stops,it will do this once or twice then finally start and smoke for a couple of seconds. Then it will run perfectly. I can then leave the car outside in freezing conditions for over 8 hours and it will start first thing no...

Just an of-the-wall thought.

Is your outside air temperature reading correct? If the ECU thinks that it's blazing hot then it won't switch the glowplugs on. If the temperure readings are sometimes correct then this could give your intermittency in starting.

Hi folks

The washer for the rear screen on my ZX hatchback has stopped working. On investigation it looks like the washer pipe has snapped at the point where it crosses over from the roof to the hatch. There's a rubber grommet at the rear of the roof and the pipe seems to have snapped off at this point. Either the pipe has snapped or the system...

Thanks for the reply Jeremy. I managed to get a new piece of pipe from the grommet, through the roof, to the existing pipe where it runs above the rear offside quarter-light. Unfortunately I only had 3mm diameter pipe which is too small to go over the non-return valve. I've now found some 4.7 mm diameter pipe, so I've have another go with that...

So after changing the rear spheres and topping up on LHM and doing a good round of citrobics i dont notice any differance in comfort ,if anything the rear feels even harder :cry: ..the only thing i can say is that it self levels a little bit quicker :roll: ...

What could be causing this ?the accumulator sphere?All the LHM in the system is stilll...

Its certainly a good idea to change it but I will be surprised if it makes any difference to the suspension, if there is enough pressure to get it to the correct height - there's enough pressure. I still reckon its your tyres.

dont know what happens here but when i start my xantia my speedo and rev counter have shot up so much so my rev counter has gone all the way round and stuck there my speedo goes up to about 50/60 and i am still why this?

I found a single strand of solid BT telephone wire (with insulation stripped off) was thin enough to fit along side the reset button, flexible enough to get to the needle, and stiff enough to give the needle a flick.

Hello folks and a Happy Christmas to you all.

My 2000 model year 1.9D berlingo has an intermitant fault.
You can get up in the morning and it starts first time. You then turn it off after 10mins of driving, leave it for 10 mins to cool down, then go to start it and the battery is flat? eh! I don't get it!!! But then once it has been jump or bump...

When I changed the oil and filter, I was pleased to see that the area of the sump below the filter was very clean. So after I had replaced the filter I cleaned the area again so that any leak could be quickly spotted.
No engine oil leak. But................... there is a clear film of what I'm sure is LHM now evident........... it may well have...

Hi,

this year martin at pleiades has flushed my suspension with hydraflush and refilled with new LHM fitted all new six spheres to my Mk2 1998 estate
it is a non-hydractive car.

Martin lubed all linkages with silicone spray and the car even went back when I dicovered a small LHM leak.

all has been fine until the temps drop to minus five at...

Have taken note of the part number cheers. I guess the mechanism was ok because the car still lifts to top and drops to the bottom setting it just wont stay in the middle (ie normal driving level).

(would like to add I never thought for moment that it was something pleiades did Martin has done work on my xantia at very short...

I need to renew the larger seal on top union of Hyd Pump.It is weeping down and dowsing alternator. Do Gsf sell single seals for these as dealer only does packs of ten .

Hi,

Its been along since here last.

My son who now has the ZX has a leak from the Thermostat Housing, can't remember whether its a Gasket or 'O' ring to seal the housing to the head.

She's on 205k now still same motor with new heater plugs etc and just past MOT for another 12mths. Can't be bad!!!

By O Ring, my mis conception, I meant it seals against the rubber seal that stis round the edge of the thermostat.. without the thermostat it cant make the seal ON THE INNER EDGE, so you'd have to use a sealent on the outer edge..

Tried it myself when my thermostat had stuck shut and I didn't have another..

Thought the lift pump in the tank was sounding a bit noisier last night. This morning the engine turned over but (I you always seem to just know it) it wasn't going to start. Couldn't hear any noise from the back so lifted the back seat and gave the pump a thump. That was enough to get it running (sounds as rough as anything although that could be...

Going to answer my own question here.

Got the unit out and it is very easy to dismantle to replace either the fuel pump (in my case a Bosch Unit 0580 464 982) or the fuel gauge sender.

Hi,
I have an early 1.8 8V petrol Xantia that had an 89deg thermostat fitted.
I've recently replaced it with an 83deg one because that's the only one I could get locally.

As you know, the spec for the Xantia thermostat was changed in 1997 from 89deg to 83deg. Was this by design, or was it found that the engine was running too hot at 89deg?...

Agree, what is 6°C in that high a temperature.

It's probably the difference between driving like an old man and 'enthusiastic' driving.

When I drive to work my oil temps half way on the gauge, and when doing motorway speeds, it will be up a 1/4 of a notch up, no biggie really is it.

Alright fellas festive greeting and all that. And with it getting cold i am gonna have a look at my heated seat that doesnt work :(
The car is an exclusive so its all leather and the passenger seat heats up lovely, but nowt on the drivers seat. So i was wonderin if any of you guys had experience with this? Could it just be a case of checking a...

I fixed both front seats on my xm by stripping the covers off (also leather) and soldering in a short length of wire to the broken section(s) of the heater elements. A long winded and tricky operation but has lasted a couple of years now and didn't cost anything more than a pack of cable ties :D

i've got a 94 1.9td SX Xantia.

been fine on LHM for about 10-12k (how long i've had the car) but in the first bit of cold weather we had i had a flickering stop light on. Just about to leave. Car has been magnificent all week. Just get in it to go to supermarkt and the coolant light and STOP came on with beeping. Has come on again. CAn't bl00dy believe it. Just about to set off.

I suspect the guy selling the car put some water into the coolant and it is cold here. Could that be the reason for the warning?...

Coollant should be the Citroen OAT based stuff. The alternatives will reduce the life of the heater matrix. I think you can use Forte antifreeze without problems though.

Without wishing to preach to the converted, may offer some advice to those with little experience of real winter driving: -

Put a bag of grit/salt mix and a proper steel shovel (not one of those stupid plastic things that break) in the boot. Several rubble bags too for grit, the wet/salty/rusty shovel, snowy boots. An old towel isn't a bad idea...

Is it common to get a higher contents reading for a short period of time on Citroen's after refueling.
Both my Xantia's dropped < 2 needles width after 1/2 hour with the cars parked (and running)
Never noticed it on any other manufacturer, even the Peugeot 505 we had, what went in stayed, the only time this does not happen is with a full tank....

Ditto what Paul said - unless the whole length of sill is crusty, then it might be better to bite the bullet and buy replacements, you'll still end up fabricating inner sections and possibly jacking points though if the outers are that bad :shock:

Going on long journey andcar was steering to left and shuddering at 70 so booked in to get tracking and balance set.

Shuddering aint so bad but the car still steers quickly to the left.

Does tracking not address that or am I getting it wrong?

If it should have been addressed in adjusting the tracking I will nip in on the way home before I head...

I would instantly suspect the wishbones on any car first, I know this is C5 specific, but I had a case where the steering would pull to the right under load, and realign to center when off throttle, brake and it would jerk to the left, this was because a bush in the wish bone was popping in and out of place throwing the steering out.

Christmas holidays.
Bored.
Time to do some of the things that need being done with my car.

So changed my front discs to get rid of the warped one and upgraded my pads to Green Stuffs.

But it looks like the caliper on the driver's side has a stuck slider, one of the guide pins doesn't slide very easlily.

Going to take the pads out again tomorrow...

Re above can a Xantia fail an MOT on soft front suspension. It failed on this and a few other hings as well. When I spole to the Mot tester he said he would give me a pass if I did the other jobs and left the ssupension alone.

Problem is I have taking it for retest and this tester is off today. Someone else will be re testing the car.

Quickie boys.....

After a browse on the finnish site Xantia World, It lists number 8 fuse in the compartment near the battery as the Hydractive fuse?

My question is this...Until i get round to getting down to Jim's and having my rear electrovalve thingummyjig checked, im wondering if i remove that fuse, will it stop the car flipping the rear...

I can live with it for now, i am planning to repair the ecu over my xmas holidays anyway and fly it over to richard for a memory clear.

Besides i'd have to buy 4 non hydractive spheres anyway wouldn't I, i'd rather buy 4 spheres, two centre (if needed), anti-sink and accumulator than buy the 4 strut ones for the time being, but i get the idea......

My Picasso clutch pedal is not the cable variety but the type connected by a clip to a pushrod.
the pedal arm keeps popping of the clip on the push rod.
Can I change the clip on the push rod easily/cheaply or will I need to buy a very expensive entire kit?

Sounds like a hydraulic clutch, no idea myself, I would not assume you need a big expensive part. Someone else will know too.

You should have asked in the Citroen section you would have an answer soon, maybe a moderator will move you.

Xantia V6 MK1 did this about a week ago then ran and started fine . It is just producing that click on trying to start. All lights dim on key turning.The battery in it aint great but has been working ok. It shows 12 volt and drops to 11 when starter key turned. Boosting with a healthy battery and jump leads makes no difference. Just a click from...

Taken relay et all out again and simply hard wired it back in with some heavy wire. The relay and fuse etc would maybe have been an issue to renew in those positions on a cold dark night . There was also the heat issue. All Ok atm.

I think I may have dropped a boo boo,
I changed my LHM for hydroflush on the 7th Oct and haven't had time to replace it with LHM (I've now done almost 3k).

In the larst three days my power stearing had got heavy, is this due to the flush being in too long ?

Just got new LHM but it's snowing out there so will have to do it another day.
