Ph II Xsara Estate earth points please

Post by Paul-R »

Amongst the many niggles on the Xsara has been the rear wiper. It's now stopped working on the switch but whenever you open the tailgate it jumps a couple of inches on the sweep.

On a hunch I ran a jump lead from the battery negative to the wiper motor body and it stopped the jumping so it looks like the earth return is NS somewhere. It may be a broken wire in the flexible loom but first I want to check the earth mounting points. Manual says LH rear and RH rear but where exactly? Does anyone have a loom mounting pic they could post please?

BTW, the wiper still wouldn't work on the switch so that's another problem to fix...

The rear wiper motor on a xsara2 estate should be earth point MC65 which is located at the osr underneath the rear 'estate' window at the front of it if that makes any sense.

Thanks Wheeler

Sounds like it's behind the side panel so that'll have to come out!

Just thought I'd finish off with a positive result.

I didn't manage to look at the problem in the UK so took the rear side panel out yeserday whilst on holiday in France. There were two earth mounting point but both were secure so I then looked at the loom itself.

Of course it had broken where the loom flexes looping over to the tailgate and I pulled it through to find the break. One of the thick earths was indeed broken but so was a thin purple wire. The thin wire soldered easily but I had to get two 25w soldering irons to even stand a chance of joining the earth wire and my wife standing with a large piece of cardboard to stop the Mistrale blowing all the heat away!

The solder joint is still a bit porridgey looking but it should last until we get back to the UK. At least we now have a working rear wiper as we set out on our European Grand Tour.

Good to hear!
Nice bit of heat shrink over the top would be ideal!
Enjoy you holiday.

I did use heatshrink but forgot to mention it.

Bit of a bugger tring to "kiss" the heatshrink with the soldering iron and not melt anything that I shouldn't do!
