ABS ring on brakes

Hi all,

Just changed my outer CV joint and now the warning light for the ABS has come on at the dash.

What has caused this problem

Suggestions please

PS My new car has been previously living in Plockton, west Coast of Scotland and the outer CV joints are very rusty me thinks sea water has caused problem.

PPS Plockton is on the west coast looking over to Skye (Stunning views)

Did you fit the right size CV joint? There are 2 and the later ones are larger. Might just be that messing with the hub has been enough for the ABS sensor to say enough is enough. Lexia session required...?

I don't think so my brake caliper says bendix and that's the one i fitted.

It states it is for my Xantia.

The brakes work and the car stops really does anything else matter

I was think of a lexia session.

Another thought what difference would 1 new and 1 old Abs ring make to the sensor.

Pop a wheel back off with the car SUITABLY SUPPORTED!!

Then check the gap between the sensor end and the ABS ring! The gap should be NO bigger then a piece of paper between the sensor Tip and an ABS ring tooth...

Chances are, despite them being "vurbually" correct for your car they will be smaller CV joints...

Ive seen this on a 1997 P reg TD Xantia, replacment CV's were fitted but they were smaller ones from a 1994/5. The ABS light went out on startup, but came on once moving...

I was thinking about all the work I have done on the car and to replace the front discs I had to remove the ABS sensor.

If this is not fitting correctly this would cause the fault light to come on ie it's too far away from the abs ring.

The Mk2 Xantia's ABS light doesn't reset on startup like the Mk1's did. Even when the fault is fixed the light will stay on until the car is driven over 20mph.

Oooerr thats a point I forgot, but thats also the same for P reg Xantias aswell.. I did a sensor last week on one, but had to go for a drive to put it out.

Sounds like after a Hub swap the sensor has gone, possibly a break in the cable...
