Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

The car is a 2001 Synergie 2.0 HDI
It uses no water or oil and there is plenty of brake fluid, oil, power steering fluid and coolant in it.

When I turn the ignition, the airbag, parking brake, generator and oil lights come on exactly as they should along with the oil level guage. The glow plug circuit...

Folks, I am hearing something slide about when cornering. I think it is coming from the glove box lid, as there is a similar rattle when I open it and move it to and fro quickly.
Is there a way of opening up the lid to check inside? I can't see any external screws and was wondering if there are hidden fixings somewhere?

Well ive been continuing with the C5s issues, or rather it is, they are never ending. Wondering if anyone can help me out with diagnosing the following:

1) Knocking from the rear: This seems to be getting worse, on all minor bumps in the road at slow speeds something at the rear is constantly rattling, its a light rattle but loud. Im thinking...

After driving the car today the rear suspension is certainly much quieter, there is no longer the constant rattling at town speeds. Which is good.

Thanks for everyone's assistance the clutch clip job is now done-everything apart from the final replace black brake cannister step that is.

I have just come back for a cup of tea after spending a frustrating 15 minutes attempting to put back the black brake cannister.

It came out OK after a bit of fiddling and would appear as if all that was...

If the spring was inside the pedal Neil, then that's half the problem. The spring should be fully inside the canister.

The canister should be in two halves with a collar in the middle to hold them together. You slide the collar up to separate the halves and expose the spring.

Sounds almost like half of the canister is missing...

Hi,always service me car with 10w40 semi syn, but in manual it says 5w30 energy saver can be used Total future 9000,i have found some on ebay 3 x 5ltr for £60 which i dont think is bad. Any one used this oil in a C52.0hdi and what do u think ?

Hi all
Have just been informed that my 1.9d is going to the crusher on monday and i need to get bits off it ASAP :twisted:

Managed to get both rear trailing arms,HP pump and the alternator out.Pressure regulator is pretty much free along with both struts and tops although i ran out of time and daylight :twisted:

Also managed to remove the alarm box and reciever and the internal blower :)

I've managed to get my central locking working by cleaning all the contacts in the fob but if I lock the car with this every couple of mins there's a beep-ish sound so had to lock the car at night using the key as this would have annoyed my neighbours(and me).

put the seats down earlier today and went to lift them back up again but the o/s won't because the inertia reel has locked, has this happened before to anyone and is there an easy fix?

On Xantia hatch I have accumulation of water which spills back into channels and then into boot area when hatch door is lifted full height. I have cleaned the drain holes with compessed air and a small piece of welding wire.....no change.

Could my tailgate membrane be the cause?

Also always had water dripping into the boot with the lid up.

All the water from the channel is dumped onto the tail light cluster.
If the cluster seal leaks, water gets into the boot through the opening for the wires, with water sloshing around inside the cluster.

Hi,

Has anyone got any tips on taking the C5 COM 2000 apart? Is it easy to dismantle and then rebuild? Any photos available?

I need to get access to the indicator stalk switch inside the unit - it seems that the left turn indicator spring is really worn out, sometimes refusing to cancel the indicator/return in to the neutral position.

Correction: the price is actually £277.62 and the part number is 00006242S5. The price comes from Citroen Service catalogue.

Still, even if it was only £50 I would still prefer to fix it myself than just simply replace it.

I have recently replaced my cabin filter cos you could have grown veg in the old one. :lol: I am not happy with the airflow through the new one. Is there any way of knowing which way it should be fitted cos I didn't note which way the old one came out :oops:

I have found that there is considerable variation in airflow and filtering performance between brands of filter. There was one I bought on ebay last year that the fan struggled to push any air through.

At the other end of the spectrum, the GSF filter let plenty of air through, but could be better described as a fly catcher, as it certainly did...

When I sent a family member into the local GSF to get a few extra bits for my front end suspension overhaul I also needed some oil for the box after the NS driveshaft fell out of its splines a bit.

This was more of an experiment, since I wanted to change the alloys, also 15 because the ones on there feel a little clumsy for track days that I did in summer. So I found a set but they were 7 wide opposed to the 6 or 6.5 factory ones, on which 205mm tyres popped of so I needed something wider. looking through the list the closest options were...

Im not sure what runflat 55s would be like on a Activa. You can go too far with stiff sidewalls and it will be horrible. Stiff sidewalls dont usually equate to the best grip. For a tyre to grip well it needs to be able to flex. Yes sloppy tyres are rubbish as you end up on the widewalls at...

Hello All,

I am after a good supplier for a timing belt and aux belt. Am I right to assume that replacing all the tensioners and pulleys would be wise?

The expense is quite frightening but might be worth it. Also, is it worth replacing the coolant pump whilst in the throws of replacing the timing belt?

The cost is multiplying!

Try your local motor factor and use Gates belts. Gates do a cambelt kit with all pulleys included.
Unless there is noise coming from the ancillary (serpentine) belt pulleys don't bother replacing them.
You can do a visual check on the serpentine belt tensioner that provides a good indication of it's condition. With the engine running look at the...

My Xantia is due a service.. Oil change & filter, air filter and fuel filter.

I was just wondering if any of the experts on here have any particular recommendations parts wise?

As i found recently with glow plugs, not all brands are equal..

It's perhaps worth making the point that the auxiliary drive belt is far more crucial on a Xantia than on ordinary cars.

This belt drives (amongst other things) the hydraulic pump (AKA HP pump). If the belt fails, no hydraulic power means NO power steering (try turning the steering wheel when the engine isn't running!), and NO brakes after the...

Hi folks

Sorry for starting yet another new topic but a search didn't come up with all that much.

Basically I've got a leak thats visible down the left hand side of the engine, ie everything under the HP pump. I've read that this can kill the alternator so I'd like to sort it. So... How many seals are there on the HP pump, which seal's 'go',...

I havn't to be honest with you. What you suggest does make sense though! I assumed that becuase the pump clicks every 90 odd seconds that the accumulator sphere would be in OK condition?

I do want to change all the spheres one day, I just need to make myself a pressure tester first. Don't suppose you have anything spare to make the tester...

I have an R reg Xantia 2.1td which recently threw the auxillery drive belt. Upon inspection I found that one of the pullies had seized. I did get some warning which I didn't act quick enough on, the rattle of a failing bearing.

What I need to confirm is the identity of the seized part. It has large hoses going into the rear of the housing...

Hi my ecu is dead on my 2001 1.1 saxo (its the 3 plug type) i tried to replace it with a new (second hand) along with the black box and key but the immobiliser just kicked in. Just wondering if there is a correct way to fit it before i try another new one?

Hi,
I've been commuting into Lincoln this week and noticed that the roads seem to be really bad with pot holes and getting worse (A607). I'm really pleased that my Xantia is now running properly as the suspension seems to soak up the bumps much better than the Modus. One question I have though am I likely to have to change the spheres more quickly...

try to avoid pot holes in the nearside of the road esspecially in your xantia it damages the NSR radius arm bearings.

they now use 20% waste veg oil in the mix for filling /patching potholes,

I reckon that this is prone to freezing at very low temperatures making the pothole reappear very quickly, I recently watched whilst the patcher patched...

Hi, I have just fitted a replacement drivers door to my 1998 citroen xantia
it would seem that it requires some adjustment.
I have tried adjusting the catch attached to the door pillar but all this seems to do is raise or lower the door and knocks the catch out of allignment so the door hits it aukwardly.

does anyone know if there is such thing...

Xac, thanks for that tip, it was the catch.

I used some washers to begin with and their outer diameter was to small and they sunk into the large square adjustment holes behind the catch then I found some Xantia seat bolt washers big enough to span the large square holes.

the door doesnt hit the catch awkwardly now as it closes, fair enough it...

I have searched the forum and can't find any floor-to-wheelarch measurements to set the ride height.

It's a Xantia 1.9td estate 1998, it was too low for sure and adjusted now by eye till wheel arches are just above the rear tread, the compensators are serviced now and it all works fine but I still think it's a tad too low at the back.

Doesn't seem to happen as much now, but still from time to time, when the engine is hot, there is a background drone on top of engine note.

Car is a 2000 90Hdi forte saloon.

Most noticeable when idling. The noise is just like a fan. Radiator fans are definitely not turning. The sound is constant, doesn't rise and fall with engine revs.

The noise only comes in when the engine is warmed up - you might notice it if you come to a halt after 20 miles, say.

Turn off and it stops at once. Start engine again straight away and it's not there.

been to look at a c5 110 hdi today, 03 with just under 100k and fsh

car drove fine but was real sluggish while cold, as was warming up could feel turbo coming in and started pulling loads better but every now and then went sluggish again? was as though the turbo wasnt coming in

dont think turbo was dead as when was in pulled like a train and not...

the front two spheres were changed last year, the two back were done 2 weeks ago, but now i have a problem with the ride height of the front. When the car is parked the front height is heigher than it should be and the back is lower, the fluid has been topped up, can you please advise how i can solve this problem,

Well after her car crash and now the insurnce have coughed up my wife has got herself a 2000 Forta Hdi 90 with an amazing 72,000 on the clock with FSH and is well please with it. Few little niggles with it though. Horn doesnt work and none of the interior lights work and now and again the dash light comes up STOP and the overheating light comes...

Hi all,

Our Xantia's heater is playing up. Sometimes it simply does not come on, and sometimes it does. So I presume we're talking about a connection problem here, as opposed to a fuse gone somewhere.

Hi all, I've just discovered the delights of the C15 Champ ( its like owning one of those scruffy small lovable terriers). But the heater fan is a bit militant, sometimes it works sometimes it won't. I've read that this is a common fault on other Citroen's, is it the same cure for the C15.

Hello,

In the recent really cold weather my Xantia has really struggled to start and if the battery has enough power to keep cranking it till it fires,it fires with loads of smoke! I think the glow plugs aren't working at all but I did read somewhere that they're fired by a coolant temp sensor when its below about 0 deg C..

Well I must admit it's long overdue a fuel filter change :oops:

The glowplug light does stay on longer when its really cold.

Get the filter changed....... and let me know how difficult the glowplugs are to change if you change them. :wink:

The rear offside(driverside) door was jammed. I did the banging it a bit and got it open. I took off childlock which allows it to be opened from inside.

Thing is most often or not it wont open from outside. But when I open it from inside it opens everytime I try from the outside as normal. But when left for a little shile it jams from the...

Its a common problem with that particular door lock on the C5's - you can get the door panel off with the door shut, you can then get at the child lock mechanisem which is hidden behind a plastic cover at the lower end of the door lock..

Its a problem with the child lock side of things jamming, which happened with a customers C5, which if he left...

Hi all,

The C5 misbehaved today, by loudly beeping every second from under the dashboard.
It happened when I shut the driver’s door after getting in, and nothing would stop it.
I drove home like that, and it still beeped with the key out.
I fully opened the driver’s window and closed the door, then disconnected the battery for several minutes....

If it's a decent quality silencer, you can usually get away with welding the flange on once (if you're a reasonable welder) and it should last a good few months.

Some years ago I returned from nightshift, and before collapsing into bed said goodbye to the parents who were off to France in their Xantia TD estate and caravan.

Will I be able to fit a CT engine and box in a Xantia hatch?

I ask as I've been offered one for a good price, and even though I'm not entirely sure what I'd do with it. It may be worth having due to the fact it was rebuilt about 20k ago.

iv got a totally unrelated question for you guys you have been so helpfull so far i thought i would try iv just finished doing up my sons 50cc twist and go moped but it has a problem it starts irratically sometimes ticks over ok sometimes stalls and when your riding it and open the throttle full the engine just dies hope you can give me some ideas...

I might have a go at filling and painting a bumper on V6.......in warm weather :) So we need special filler, plastic primer etc. It`s only the corners that are cracked.

Would it be best to take whole bumper back to base or just flat paint?

What paint is on Mk1 V6? It's the moe common dark green. Is it a celly with 2k lac or a 2k with lac?...

They are cracked at each corner. Is the glue an epoxy? When you say matt colour, is that non metalic and is it a celly or a 1 or 2 k acrylic.
