Performance upgrades

What's the most common first steps taken to upgrade the EW10 in my C5 2 litre?

Nawww, I'm keeping the 2 litre so I have the option of sticking it in a Pug 205 once the C5's bodywork gives up :)

I don't think there is a "common first step". You might try a mild cam grind on the inlet side, or a (shhh!) decat.

Would a cam change result in requiring a remap?

Maybe; if it were more than a subtle tweak the ECU would spot something had changed.

Camming it up, plus a remap, would give more power again.

You may find it will outlast the 205 even... Ive YET to see a rusty C5, Xantias were good enough..

So I agree with Jim, chuck it away and fit a V6, the C5 2.oi engines IF ITS A HPi are not a good engine.. Ive heard

I have noticed a bit of rust and bubbling under the tailgate handle on mine - a recent development.

The bare bit on the front wing shows no sign of rusting and has been bare for three years.

I agree actually, I have NO rust on mine. A small ding and a couple of scratches from previous owners but no rust :)

This EW10 is pretty decent but not really powerful enough for the weight of the car. I think there's a variable valve timing head on the EW10 in the 206 GTi, an upgrade to that with a decent remap might work out nicely...

It's the one place the paint is slightly bubbled -- along the cut edge of panel immediately
below that handle -- on our (2002) C5 estate as well.
It will have to wait till (hopefully) warmer weather in spring to get seen to, though.
Might brush some ballistol along that edge in the meantime.
