Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I am going to do the wiring on my tow-bar tomorrow ,I have done the supply from the battery to the rear of the car. Will someone please tell me the best and safest way to find the correct wires leading to the rear light clusters. I am going to use a 7 way relay TEB7AS.

Yet again, another simple task has become more trouble than it should be.

On trying to reassemble front brakes I realised I had no copper grease, no problem, I can pick some up and sort them out later in the week.

So, I thought, lets just renew the drop links while we're here. O/S comes off and new one on and torqued up. Great! One more and I'll...

sometimes these have torx not allan key ways,
I actually broke the end off my Torx bit when trying to change a droplink on my C5.

At that point I said soddit and heated up the bottom of the droplink until the plastic melted and broke off and I was then able to grasp the round end (ooerr missus) with a pair of moleys.

Perhaps I should have done...

Hi folk, I'm looking for conformation of the likely causes of this problem: the estate boot wont lock (when autolocked with the electronic key lock). It does clasp shut properly, when lowered to close and likewise, open OK.

I understand that it may be due to the solonoid switch and/or a worn pivot arm coming from the same switch.. is that about...

While you're at it, make sure the mechanism from solenoid to lock is well greased and that the lock mechanism itself is lubricated and operating freely. Mine started to be unreliable at both locking and unlocking, but some WD40 through the key 'ole solved the problem (the linkage was all greased when I had to rebuild the tailgate into a 'new'...

We rarely use the rear doors on our year 2000 90Hdi Forte.

Tonight we found that one rear door hadn't unlocked with the central locking.

Can't make it work. The lift 'button' inside is not quite all the way up and no amount of fiddling will make it work. Can't open door with exterior or interior handles. Rest of the car central locking operates...

As you found cutting the wires wont help, you need to physically remove the plug.. this is an S2 car, the plug is held on by a Slide up lock plug... get a small screw driver and lever it UPWARDS, as it levers up the plug pushes away... Hey all,

Is the aux / serpentine belt on an early C5 the same as a Xantia? (hdi 110).

Mate's sick of chucking money at it at the garage,so has asked me. I've done mine and am pretty sure it's the same motor/setup?

So they're part exing it monday.. now the belts frayed..!

The HDi (DW) 110bhp engine which was first of the family originally replaced the 2.1 XUD Engine ONLY at first

So the 90bhp XUD continued along side the HDi in the Xantia for a year or so again to around W reg... So any S, T or V reg HDi Xantias are useually 110bhp engines as the 110 was first to come along...

Then later in 2000 the XUD was gone...

Just come back from my first run in my C5 2.0L hdi VTR(110),I did over 500 miles the MPG was at best 48.3 I think that that is OK for that size of car,better than my old 306.The car never missed a beat and ran great.
I just had two little niggles about the car,
1 auto lights how do you turn it off, all the way down to south Wales the lights kept...

Auto lights usually work perfectly, I have not had a problem with them on any of my C5s. However if your car has had a replacement windscreen it is likely that the sensors has not been located onto the windscreen properly or it has been damaged.

Hello long time no visit.

Problem arising with fan on the Xantia. Keeps coming on and off even after cold start up and very short journey. Any ideas. Fan very loud, or at least it seems that way to me. Anyone had similar problem?

This would engage the fans & make them cut on & off, and is normal.

Not quite....both should run continuously at slow speed with the AC running.... if one is coming on and off at high speed when AC is on then chances are the other one is knackered and hence they won't run in parallel (ie slow speed)

Came across this yesterday - one of two irremovable faults on a saloon with slight head gasket issues*.

I would be interested in gathering some info about failures of these bearings .

if anybody has had a failure would they like to say which model, estate or saloon, mileage failed, if car used for towing and any other related failures struts or spheres which may have happened at the same time or some time previous. For those profesional mechanics...

As usual with the way these things go, I have my NCT (MOT equivelant) tomorrow evening and the ABS light (car with skids behind it) is coming on.

When I first got the car in 2008 I notice that when I hit 100mph (very rarely :-) ) the light came on, and was gone when the car was next started, It was low on the list at the time so I didnt think too...

Well the suspension pump finally gave up to day!
So as it was a nice day decided that the pump I purchased a few months back was going to be fitted and it was by the end of play today.
Fortunately the new pump runs fine, unfortunately it doesn't pump oil so I am going to have to pressurize the reservoir, now this is a bit of a bitch as I need to...

Hi,
My central locking has a fault.Two days ago I tried to unlock it and it unlocked at the second attempt with the remote.

Now the car will not lock remotely. The drivers window will also not open and the hatch will not unlock.

The key will not lock but if I lock the rear doors from the inside then the passenger door I can lock the drivers door...

Ok got a 2.2 HDi done 70k on a 53 plate.
got a noise on the front at law speeds which sounds like it comes from the drivers side. The noise is a sort of rumble like something is vibrating. Can make it do it loudly if I labour the engine, all suspension seems fine new lower arms last week and drop links last year.

Tried removing undershield...

Just bought a Citroen C5 2.0l HDI VTR on a 54 plate with 29000 miles on the clock, the car is in very good condition and i am very pleased with it.
Can someone please tell me how to find out if this car has a particulate filter on it ,and also what type of engine oil is the best to use on this car .

The rear driverside is banging on braking. Easpecially when breaking hard getting to junction.

The knocking could it just be the abs and a worn pad. Tad worried re corroded calipers.

Wasn't trailing arm bearings was buggered calipers. Had bearings replaced on other car. Not the same.

Thing is garage was surprised as even tho the calipers had big chunks falling off the suppliers wanted them for re conditioning. I got new ones.

I much prefer the look of the centre console with the SII flip down radio cover like in my SX so , having gotten the radio over from Gregg , if it's a runner I want to change it in the Activa. The only issue is the radio. Will any of the single din radios that fit in the spring loaded cover work with the contols on a SI steering wheel?

Apparently the steering wheel control signals changed three times during the Xantias life with the different radios:

S1 Blaupunkt
S2 Clarion ('98 - '99ish)
S2 Blaupunkt (I think...) with flipdown cover ('99 - '01)

S2's did NOT have Blaupunkts... They went over to Phillips..

The S2 Clarions with CD Changer used the SAME steeting button...

Hi All,

After much looking I have just got a another Xantia which i found in Auld reekie.

It is white estate 130,00 on the clock and a full service history by a good independant citroen garage for less than £900.

It is another diesel but the 2.0 Hdi 90 hp,it runs good.

I am thinking about getting a Xantia. Reason being I want to be able to cruise happily for hours at 130kph-ish (with something left for overtaking etc) four-up plus luggage, with the air con on as necessary. As a follow on to my thread about my SX failing the test and due to the fact im stoney broke at the minute I'm wondering how compatible a couple of bits are if I was to swap them off my Activa in the short termto pass the test then get new parts and fit them to the Activa when I have cash?

The NSF Caliper being the only real sticking point...

After having a root round on citroen service, I went and ordered both bushes, so I'll change both out.

The plan is to gradually replace all the bushes and such over time as money permits (drop links, rack rod ens etc), starting with the wishbone bush that it failed on.

I know there's an AC section but it doesn't look too well read so I thought I'd post here.

Are the two AC pump types interchangable? Harrison and whatever the other one is or, the one that is split down the middle and the one that isn't?

Theres two types of Harrison Pumps...

On around 1997 model years the Harrison had two seperate type screw on pipes identical to older R12 type compressors....

Then later on they changed the connection to the bracket with single bolt.. these two types are ALMOST interchangeable... These compressors are slightly LONGER then the Sanden split body...

Got the immobiliser code for me car.

Can someone explain the process of programming keys. Including parts.

I need a second key as I paranoid Iay lose the only one I have while abroad or far from home.

Note: great topic title. Darn well mucked it up.

with my HDi just nudging over 180k i'm interested to see what other people's mileages are and what problems they've had. Really only after 110 HDi's here. (would be interesting to compare lexia readouts as well)

Has anyone tried, or know of any remedies to remove water spots off mirrors?

Xantia has some really nasty watermarks on the mirrors and with traffic behind, can make a right proper glare!

Glass cleaner doesnt cut it, was contemplating cutting compound but I think they're plastic lenses :shock:

I've successfully polished scratches out of mobile phone plastic screens and cleaned otherwise immovable marks from the windscreen using Peek and Solvol Autosol metal polishes. Use a clean soft cotton cloth NOT paper (which scratches even glass).

Try jacking the car up and spinning the wheels, if they spin fairly freely its just 'in use' heat, if not as spider says, the brakes are binding.

Hopefully posting here will give me better luck.

Right, said car is a 95 Peugeot 306 XSi 2.0l. (Same motor and box as Xantia and ZX)

Gear shifs are nice and normal with the exception of when going manually between 3rd and Drive - the engine cuts for a good 2 seconds. Weird in the fact that the 'box is non electronic...

A friend has had the engine management light illuminate of her 2004 C3 1.4 HDi, I gave it a Lexia session and found three codes, the first two; P1357 Pre heater relay circuit plugs not supplied and P0215 Ignition system supply relay circuit stuck were shown as intermittent and stayed cleared for the duration the car was with me, the third one one...

I am in the process of constructing a hydraulic pressure gauge to tee in the output of a pressure regulator to enable hydraulic line pressures to be read.

I need to construct a 4.5mm union socket to accept the hydraulic pipe flare that's normally screwed into the pressure regulator body.

If this is a change of the COM2000 unit it will not work, the COM2000 unit on the Exclusive steering wheel position talks CAN BUS the unit as fitted to an LX doesn't ( Mk1 cars not sure about MkII's)

EDIT The critical issue is whether the car has ESP if ESP COM2000 steering wheel position is on CAN BUS if not ESP Steering wheel position as such...

Got a call from the Mrs, car ('95 Diesel Xantia) at Morrisons but won't start has been fine all day but now nothing. Battery ok (not tested on muti meter) but ignition key and under the steering column were very hot. Suspecting a short somewhere that is preventing the starter motor from turning.

All MK2 regulators are the same. There is no difference between Hydractive and non-Hydractive.

In fact there's only three right across the Xantia range as I understand it..

The 'sinker' with the additional FDV feed; the coarse thread one that has a rubber seal on the pump pipe fitted to earlyish MK1s and the fine thread one that has the metal...

I have finally got my replacement bumper, which was removed by methords i would nt do to to get mine off, the big problem is getting at the midle 13mm bolts. how do you get at them ? as on a mk1 xantia you can pull the fog lights out, a mk2 xantia you cant !!!!! :evil:

Also there is a vertical torque screw (T15?) on the very tip of the bumper each side, screwed into a plastic gromet in the wing. Not sure if this is the same as the MK1

Trying to work out what front corner spheres the 2.1TD has on it..

The numbers are:

N45332-SP857 (Amtex sphere)

02-04-08 (so not particularly old, but getting there..)

Any ideas what that sphere is? I'm not sure it's the right one..

Excellent news in that you've found the problem Spliffy :D

I see no great worry in using a Saxo pump if it can keep up with the fuel demand and you'll soon know if it is struggling as the engine will start spluttering badly under heavy load/high revs.

Would an original clutch that is on the heavy side be puting extra strain on the gearbox as apposed to a light clutch :-k

An old friend has a 1994 S1 2.0TCT auto Xm Prestige, in black with black leather, 24v alloys, climate etc and it runs on LPG.

However, the speedo does not work for the first 20 miles or so, after that it springs back to life and starts working again.

Is this likely to be a problem with the speedo head?

if the cruise control is working then it must know the speed surely, and if its like some of the early 106's it'll have a cable drive out of the gearbox with an electronic sensor on it (was the injection ecu on the 106). Interesting the comments re LHM your experience confirms my belief that LHM would do just fine if LDS not available.

Spheres & shock absorbers are one and the same. The spheres have an inbuilt self destruct mechanism, if they get too soft there is an internal spike which will puncture the diaphragm at which point the suspension will go rock...
