Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

i use a longish length of 3/16th kunifer brake pipe you can bend it to a shape to fit were you require,

and if you forget to pull it out before cranking the engine over, you can just yank it out even if its all bent up,

Hi all,

What caliper is fitted to my Xantia as I have had some fun in getting the right pads :lol: (got the rights ones by checking the pads fitted).

It would appear to have ABS.

Is there any difference between Non ABS and ABS.

I want to throw out a general question regarding the carrying of weight in boot over extended period.

I am using car to carry reasonable bit of weight - cant quantify just yet - in trunk. The items will be more or less stored permanently in car and that would mean over night and at week ends when car not in use that the weight will be there....

That's reminded me. When I sold my last CX a DTR Turbo Safari I sent with it all the spares I had including an engine and gearbox, four lads came to pick it up and by the time they had climbed in as well it was touch and go whether the rear suspension would get off the ground but that's the only time I've seen that happen.

I am about to launch into tidying up a couple of standard Xantia alloy wheels that have a little corrosion. You know, flaky paint and bubbling corrosion.

Anybody know what the paint colour is? Any recommendations for types of paint?

I am stripping off the laquer and top coat, and will reprime with a self-etch aluminium primer and probably finish...

Original finish appears to be an epoxy powdercoat.

Your best bet for a refurb might be epoxy/urethane primer then a washcoat (wet on wet) primer followed by basecoat and 2K clear.

Well I'm possibly trapped in Sandy.
Pulled up outside the bank to drop some well needed dosh in and the gearstick went floppy.
Had a look, got my shirt mucky, and it's 2454F7 that has popped off it's ball socket.
If memory serves, this did it before (but it may have been another one) and Jim glued it back into place. If so it's done a bloomin'...

had a good search around my mk2 td estate but cant for the life of me find the pant code,
RP number and another 3 digit number are on the bulkhead drivers side but no obvious paint codes! (silver mk2 estate down the yard has the normal big letters here but stupidly didnt take a note!!)

Simple one! Is there any risk in starting/running the car with the alternator output lead disconnected?

I am presuming not, as it seems generally that you can drive a car on a dying battery once the alternator has failed. Correct, or am I misinformed?

Sounds like I'm good to go. Either the alternator is carboned up with a mix of LHM and brush dust, or the starter solenoid is crook again.

I'm suspecting the former. Joy, oh joy. Intake manifold off again! :x

I am troubleshooting some central locking issues, can someone please tell me where I find the sensor which detects whether the driver's door is open/closed? Year 2000 xantia hatch.

Hi, I have a somewhat dilapidated 93 Xantia TD VSX with leather seats, which have worn better than the rest of the car. I'd like to take the seats and install in a 2000 Xantia HDi SX. I believe the floor layout was retained on going from the mark I to mark II so I imagine it should theoretically be possible.

Anyone else out there with experience...

It is possible to make series 1 door cards fit a series 2 car.

The rears are exactly the same.

For the fronts however, you will need to retrieve the 2 plastic threaded pieces that the door armrest screws into. Once retrieved, you need to fit them to the spare holes in the series 1 door. No drilling required. They just clip in.

I got a 2004 C5 auto recently with the AL4 box. Gear changes were a bit harsh, quite erratic when cold.. I did a double flush of the oil, transformed the car to be quite honest, and it had only done 30k miles when I collected it. Now, although it is still a bit harsh for the first minute or two when cold, it quickly settles down.

If you'd like to know whether the ultrasonic sensors are the cause of false alarms, prior to locking the car press the alarm button on the dash until the LED stays on then lock the doors. If the alarm no longer gives false alarms you've found the cause.

Hi, my 1995 zx s sunroof won t open! When I press the switch either way, I can faintly hear a noise, I guess it s the sunroof motor, but nothing happens. It stays shut! Anybody got any ideas ?

I have an idea it may be lack of lubrication and thence advanced wear of the control gear or drive cable in the motor assenbly. I've got one to dismantle shortly with the same problem so I'll keep you all posted when I've done t'job.

I am hoping it uses the same parts as a Xantia, as I have these available.

why would an xantia be stuck on high no matter what?
also the power steering does not work.

as well as the engine constantly cutting out and the speedometer not working.

I have not really looked at the car yet, but thought i'd arm myself with some info before i do :)

Could be that the HP pump belt broke after putting it to High and now the anti sink valves closed leaving it there. My money is on the pump (or the pump running out of LHM)

Have you tried starting the engine and then setting it to middle height?

After all the grief with getting the car through its mot and then discovering that it was jumping out of 2nd gear, I decided to polish it up and put it through the local auction complete with nearly 11 months mot
It was gleaming.

Hi guys,
firstly have tried a search but came up with over 6000 threads to go through! :shock:
do any of you guys run on veg oil mix for your deisels?? i know you need a bosch pump for this (any easy way to check what pump you have??) and have seen quite a few peeps comment on running veg oil on ebay adds, but just wondered what the legalities...

Yes I am sure. You are classed as the producer of the fuel if you purchase it. When you buy it it is cooking oil, you have turned it into fuel by adding it to your tank. HMRC will class you as the producer. In the link I provided 4.2.1 says 'producers/users'

I've just discovered that the c5 also has the infamous citroen dual control brakes. It might be handy though, my son turns 17 next month, I was going to put him on the insurance for the 107, might do the c5 now, could be safer when he's learning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi all cheers for your help with the last problem this forum is simply exellent. I have another problem, all of a sudden iv noticed my clutch pedal has gone weird.
On the first 3 inches theres nothing it only disengages on the last 2 inches.
Gears seem to be working ok but iv got to push the pedal right to the floor and if i have the car mat up...

Hi, my daughters c2 has a problem, when the car starts the side and dipped beem come on!!!! it doesnt have auto lights on it either. I can switch it to sidelights only and onto dipped beam and flash the headlights to make them come on.
Does anyone have any ides what could be causing this to happen????

hi guys. i dont suppose anyone has a 97 reg 1.9td synergie n they could messure the width of the power steering pully?.......... :) reason been as the aux belt broke on mine a while ago so i replaced the tensioner and belt..........belt was a nightmare to fit due to been tight.its started to squeek so i decided to take the tensioner off the grease...

I needed an alternator belt for a 2.1 manual no aircon. one suppler on ebay listed four belts for the 2.1, manual, auto with or without aircon. After a lot of confusion I took the belt off and measured it, 2.1 manaul without aircon? - No, 2.1 auto...

It takes longer than normal to start my Xantia.

A quick search in FCF and found some helpful tips.
I checked battery condition by reading with a voltmeter while idling and engine off.
Both readings are good, battery is new, green indicator light is seen etc.

Today I drove to a car battery dealer and they tested battery with a tester.
Good...

They're not desperately expensive (£70 or £77) in the UK if you have to go the the dealer.
1.8 16V had the same injection system as mine and Bosch FPR with same product code...

The cruise control in my Xantia II 2 stopped working. It was when I was driving on the freeway. At the beginning when I activated it, it worked for couple of seconds and stopped. I checked the vacuum unit that controls the gas throttle in looks OK . The switch on the brake pedal is OK and the relay that supplies power to the cruise control ECU is...

I got the bellows for free from the garage I work with. The punctured one was in a bad condition and it was a matter of a short while till it will puncture gain. I’ll take care that the bellows is not fouling on the wiring loom nearby.

Hello. My Fred has been getting worse at starting in the morning.

I'm having to squeeze the priming bulb 20 - 30 times. Once I do that she starts nicely and will start easily for the rest of the day.

Runs very well though sometimes has a little hiccup when accelerating hard with the air con on (but that could be because I'm not used to air...

What pump do you have? It's probably a Bosch BUT if it's a Lucas, the boost solenoid can unscrew and leak diesel on very hard acceleration. Overnight, air bled into Sylvia's system with no clue at all.

Changed leak-off pipes to no avail and checked the glow plugs all fine.

Hi

When I checked the level of the LDS fluid, the cap released a load of pressure, lilke taking a radiator cap off. For the next few miles of driving, the suspension was really plush again, now i has gone back to thudding / banging when coming off speed humps, and feeling quite hard at the front end.

Got the last one of my four family cars through the test this morning - that's the Xsara with just over 100K on it's clock. hi all! another question for you techy bods!
is there a list available of CD multi changers that are compatible with the std head units in the Xantia??
head unit has cd control but is only a tape unit, be nice to keep the steering controlls rather than change complete head unit (will do if no joy)
beleive it to be the clarion unit?? - handbooks...

hi fella, have found LOads of 2146b's but no a's! the b's were fitted to all the pug range, 206 upwards,
will keep my eye's open but may look into a fascia and remote plug in to keep the wheel controls, and drop in a nice head unit with and Aux plug in,
although, have been tempted to grab a cassette to 3.5mm adapter and use the std on that way!!...

Got the Xantia through the MoT, but what a fluke!

For over a month I could not get one rear door open, despite almost a full day, on-and-off, trying everything.

Then, three hours before the MoT appointment, I got it open again, albeit without central locking. Tried it three or four times, opened and shut ok.

The rear suspension arm bush (offside) on my Synergie has failed. It has done about 270,000 miles so I'm not complaining.

Has anyone changed one of these? What's involved in the job? I can get the bush but cannot find any info about changing it, or any tool to extract the old and insert the new.

I learnt this one from the veggy site but thought it might be interesting to anyone who seems to be as lucky as I am when the xantia diesel produces a fault i.e. late Friday Night, easter friday, Christmas eve, I think you get my drift, Not enough time before the weekend/hols to get any parts.

and the reason was the lower control arm bushes and sway bar lock ( not sure about the name in english) i was mentally prepared for fail as i know the rear arm bearing is shot but strangely the guy ignored it :roll:

Hi how did you get on with your leak give us an update please.

I had a similar leak and after changing the filter element and bottom O ring it still leaked :shock: .
So of with the housing again removed the fuel thermostat thingy at the bottom.
Be carful doing this as you dont want to damage the spring clip which holds it in, I teased it out...

Hi ,I have driven a P reg Zx turbo diesel today which has heavy power steering .The tyre pressures appear to be ok .
i might be interested in going for it .

Thanks for responses.

Found the switch in engine compartment and we did the test with the bit of wire creating the 'bridge'. This test confirmed the light system itself is working fine and that it must be the switch.

Went online and europarts have got new reversing light switches for my car, for about a £10 all in. Have ordered one and...

My grandfather is currently driving around with 100% WVO, that is until last night when she decided to stop on side of motorway! :shock:

The strainer being blocked up looks to be the obvious cause, I'd pull the assembly out of the tank and investigate/remove the sludge (it's not a difficult/long task) rather than blow it back into the tank as all you're doing there is delaying the inevitable for when it happens again.

This is what I found on one a few years ago.

Hi alan,

As per PM, yes you are correct, the solinoids NEED to be operational for the turbo to wake up... If they are dead then the wastegate stays open and theres no boost. Which then confirms what I never tried, and that was to put the Vac from the Pump on the end of the head straight onto the wastegate... that would of told me a few things.....

I've enclosed a couple of pics of some small rust eruptions below the paint.
I'm tempted to get the emry paper out and rub them down and repaint. But I'm not sure whether I should just leave them alone as with the solid paint covering below the door it must be pre existing corrosion under the paint.
Should I leave this till it breaks through or...

Changed the gearbox oil, and while it is certainly making the box shift more smoothly, it hasn't addressed the noise problem. I wonder if it could be the engine mount on the gearbox side (the other 2 mounts were changed late last year) although I'd have expected the garage to have suggested that if it was a possibility.
